Please note this is a 'Safe' minigame. As the player is not allowed to bring any items into the minigame, and everything the player will need is provided during the game, the player will drop all items when killed, and no gravestone will protect them.

Stealing Creation is a resource-controlling minigame that was released on 11 November 2008. This minigame features an arena where Skillers and Player Killers work together, creating equipment and trying to beat the opposition.

In this minigame, players are required to collect sacred clay, which is thought to be the "building blocks used by gods to create worlds". Players can get together with clans, or play with a group of normal people, to gather resources to make the equipment that is required to win the game. This minigame benefits players of all types, including normal players, pures, tankers, etc.

The mystics' camp is south west of the Bounty Hunter bank, so for a quick way to get there, just use a games necklace to teleport to Bounty Hunter, then walk from there.

If the player doesn't have a games necklace, the player can just head due north from the Grand Exchange.

As with any traveling in the wilderness, it is possible that the player may come across some revenants on their way to the minigame. Take precaution.

Requirements

This game is only available to members. It can be played in any world.

The player is not allowed to bring any items or worn equipment into the minigame, as all items are provided in-game.

Clay/Item Requirements:

  • Anyone can make or gather Class 1 items.
  • The ability to make or gather Class 2 items require level 20 in the relevant skill.
  • The ability to make or gather Class 3 items require level 40 in the relevant skill.
  • The ability to make or gather Class 4 items require level 60 in the relevant skill.
  • The ability to make or gather Class 5 items require level 80 in the relevant skill.


Pickpocketing:

The player is not allowed to pickpocket anyone who is at least 20 levels higher then the player in thieving. (i.e. if the player is level 20, he/she cannot pickpocket anyone at or above 41 thieving).

Entering a Game

To play the game, the player must enter one of the two waiting areas. Once inside, a window will pop up at the top right corner of the screen that depicts the Total Combat Levels and Total Skill Levels of both the player's team and the opposing team. They change as players enter and exit the waiting rooms. The window also shows how many more people are needed to start the game, and when the next game will start (in minutes remaining).

Five players are needed on each team. When there are at least five players on each team, players will have to wait approximately two minutes for the game to start.

Once in the waiting room, players can chat with players in the other waiting area, since they are right next to each other.

If the player has not been able to complete their previous round due to logging out or lag, they are not allowed to start another game for five minutes.

Playing the Game

The sacred clay is the key to the game. The players must collect the sacred clay, make them into armour or equipment, and use them to gain points to earn rewards.

The Arena

The Stealing Creation arena is square-shaped and very large, even larger than the Fist of Guthix arena. Smaller squares that contain different levels of clay are scattered around the arena, as well as Creation kilns, special altars, and obstacles such as rocks and trenches

The locations of the clay and obstacles change every game.

The Bases

The two team bases are situated on diagonally opposite corners of the arena. Players cannot enter each other's bases, only their own.

Inside each base is a Mystic who can show the player the amount and what skill and class of clay remaining in the arena and can also heal the player if he/she is hurt. A large deposit table is in the center of each base, where players can deposit all the clay and clay items in their inventory. Note that by default everything is deposited except for equipment used for extracting clay e.g. hatchets. You may also deposit all items of a certain type by using one item with the table. When items are deposited they appear sorted in several crates that each can hold a certain type of equipment or armour. Depositing items gives points and taking them deducts points, see Rewards.

If players are being chased by a player killer, they can run into their base where they cannot be attacked. Unlike barriers the base is indestructible.

Gathering Clay

There are many ways to gather sacred clay, as there are many possibilities of skills to use.

For Skillers

To start, the player should collect Clay Fragments, which are level one clay, that can be found scattered around the arena. If the player have a high enough level to collect sacred clay in skills (e.g. 40+ Mining - class 3 sacred clay), it is possible, although it will be faster with a tool. Once the player have some sacred clay, head back to his base and use the Creation Kiln. Select equipment on the left hand side on the menu that comes up, then choose the type of tool he wishes to make. If he has multiple classes of sacred clay, choose the needed class from the right hand side of the menu.

Possibilities include:

The player now should head over to his chosen skill area, and perform that activity to gain sacred clay and points. Note that he will not receive experience for performing these activities.

Or, if the player rather get sacred clay in a less direct method, he can pickpocket his opponents using the Thieving skill, and he can get any items that the person may be carrying, whether it be raw sacred clay, or a level 5 platebody! If successful, he will gain an item from their inventory, meaning they lose the item. If unsuccessful, nothing happens; he is not stunned like what normally happens when thieving. For the requirements for pickpocketing, look above in the Requirements Section.

For Player Killers

Unlike level restrictions in other PvP instances, he may attack any player, regardless of their level. Players can kill their opponents as they go about their tasks. When a player dies, they will drop all of their items, so this is a good way for a player to gather sacred clay or other items for their team or selves. If the player dies, he will spawn inside the nearest barrier controlled by his team without any items he has carried or worn when he died. The protect item prayer functions as normal.

The player can also add the sacred clay he has collected to his base for others to take it when needed. Also, unneeded tools, armor, weapons or potions can be stored at the base for the same reason. Or, if he is in need of sacred clay or sacred clay items, he can look for them in the base.

Gathering Higher Levels of Clay Effectively

Level 1 clay is the weakest clay and will produce the weakest weapons and equipment when used in the kiln. Players can gather higher levels of clay from trees, rocks, pools, and swarms if they have the required levels. Getting higher levels of clay by hand is incredibly slow, however, so players are advised to use equipment to speed up the process.

To effectively gather high leveled clay, a player should start by getting a clay fragment and making it into a piece of equipment of his choice. Then he should gradually work his way up to the highest level clay he can get/use. With a level 1 tool, it will take very long to get clay from a gathering spot at least 2 clay levels above the tool, and even longer if the player doesn't have a tool. A player can start at level 5 clay if he wants, but it is highly recommended that he gets at least a level 1 tool before gathering higher level clay. Players should remember to turn their higher level clay into a tool before continuing to gather clay.

If a player is attacked while gathering clay with a high leveled tool and he doesn't want to lose it, he should drop all the clay he has and activate Protect Item. That way, if the player dies he won't have the make the high leveled tool again, and he can go straight back to getting clay.

Processing the Clay

Once a player has gathered sacred clay, he can use it on the Creation kilns scattered around the area. This is the exact method used to make tools, except this time, the player will choose different options.

Players can make food using the kiln. How many hitpoints the food heals depends on the level of the sacred clay.
Players can make potions with the kiln as well. How many doses are in the potion depends on the level of the sacred clay.
Players can make barriers that can be used to make a blockade around the resources. When a barrier is build, only members of the team who made the barrier can access the resource. Members of the other team can attack the barrier to make it wear away and then disappear, similar to the Castle Wars barriers, except that players can continue to build onto the barrier while it's being attacked (thus replenishing and healing the barriers hitpoints).
Summoners will find themselves the ability to call upon the aid of new familiars inside the minigame. All the new familiars are beasts of burden. The higher the level of clay, the higher the combat level of the familiar.
The familiars will not disappear until the game ends. They can be lost only when slain.
Along with pouches, players can create scrolls that will automatically return the items in the familiar's inventory (NOT the player's inventory) to the player's team base. The higher the level of the sacred clay, the more scrolls are made from each sacred clay.
Players will also find that they are able to make special runes in this mini-game that are similar to the ones used in the Fist of Guthix mini-game: the Catalytic rune and the Elemental rune. The Catalytic rune substitutes for the Mind, Chaos, Death, Blood, Nature, Cosmic, Law, Soul and Astral runes, while the Elemental rune substitutes for Air, Earth, Fire, and Water runes. The higher the level of the sacred clay, the more runes are made with each sacred clay.

Note: Both Ancient Magicks and Lunar Spells can be used in the minigame.

Smithing is used to make the melee armour and weapons. It is also used to make the equipment such as pickaxes. Again, the higher the sacred clay, the stronger the smithed items.
Crafting is used to create various objects such as mage robes, mage staves, ranger's armour, and crafting tools. The higher the sacred clay, the stronger the crafted items.
Fletching is used to make long bows and arrows. The higher the sacred clay, the stronger the arrows will be made.
Players can thieve items from players and take anything in their inventory. No points are gained for thieving, but experience is gained. The experience received is currently unknown.

Extra Information

  • Altars

Across the arena, are several altars that players may use. Unlike other altars, these will restore the players Summoning, Run Energy, and Prayer all to full percentages.

  • Fogs

Players may hide in areas of Fog scattered around the arena. This hides their presence completely, as players outside of the Fog will not be able to see them, or their white dot on the mini-map. Players cannot summon, attack or use magic while hidden in fog.

  • Rifts

There are ditches that players can jump over using their Agility, which prevents melee attackers from hitting, but does not stop ranged or magic attacks.

  • Walls

Players may climb over or run around walls that prevent magic and ranged attacks from hitting when opposite the opponent.

Rewards

Point System

Doing various activities in the minigame will either earn or deduct from a player's personal score.

  • Gathering sacred clay earns the player 15 points per class
  • Processing sacred clay earns the player 15 points per class
  • Depositing sacred clay earns the player 15 points per class
  • Depositing clay items earns the player 30 points per class
  • Withdrawing sacred clay from the team's base deducts 15 points per class
  • Withdrawing clay items from the team's base deducts 30 points per class
  • The player earn 5 points for each hitpoint of damage dealt to an opponent

Experience

Some experience is gained from certain activities.

Players will earn combat experience for fighting other players, Thieving experience for pickpocketing, and half Magic experience for casting spells. Gathering sacred clay, processing it, building barriers and so on will not earn players any experience.

Reward Shop

There is a Rewards Shop in the hut east from the portal the players appear from when the game is over. Rewards are received in exchange for points gathered from playing the minigame. To exchange points, players may talk to the Rewards mystic and he will show them the variety of different rewards.

Volatile Tool

When a player operates the tool, it will randomly transform into one of the following: Sacred clay hatchet; Sacred clay butterfly net; Sacred clay hammer; Sacred clay harpoon; Sacred clay knife; Sacred clay needle; or a Sacred clay pickaxe. All versions of the volatile tool can be used for normal actions (such as using a knife for Fletching, or a hatchet for woodcutting), and players will get bonus experience for using them. After a certain number of uses, it will transform back into its base form. Players may operate the tool 10 times before it will need to be recharged with more points.

Items give a 5 experience bonus at random times.

The volatile tool costs 20,000 reward points.

Morphic Tool

This item is almost exactly like the Volatile Tool, except for a few differences: Players get to choose what type of tool they want it to transform into. Also, players get slightly less bonus experience because of this. Other then that, they are the same.

Each charge lasts for a certain number of uses depending on the skill before reverting back to its normal form. If a player transforms it before it reverts back to its original form, the count does not reset.

Used tools that have reverted back do not stack with a fully charged tool in bank.

The morphic tool costs 20,000 reward points.

Sacred Clay Armour and Weapons

The range of clay armor and weapons include:

  • Helmet
  • Body
  • Leggings
  • Weapon (Scimitar, Staff, Bow)

Any full armor set with the weapon may be purchased for 238,000 points.

Sacred Clay Armour requires 40 Defence to wield - no matter the form that it is morphed into. The armour may be morphed up to 10 times into Melee, Mage, or Ranged (all just from one single set of armour!). Once morphed, all other sacred clay armour that players own will be morphed to that side of the combat triangle as well.

  • Level 40 Defence is required to equip the armour.
  • Level 40 Attack is required for the scimitar.
  • Same stat bonuses as Runite armour and Rune scimitar.

Trivia

  • On the day of release, there were several glitches, including one where only one team would enter the game causing the timer to be reduced to 1 minute instantaneously. Causes of this were believed to be overcrowding and the population on certain servers.
  • On the early hours of release, free players were able to talk to the head mystic, but could not play the minigame, or view the tutorial. When these free players tried to access the mini-game, they were forced to automatically wear the Stealing Creation cape, which is a member's item. They were then unable to take the cape off until they logged out and then logged back in, getting an error that the cape was not allowed to be taken off while still in the Stealing Creation minigame. This was fixed at Tuesday, 2008-11-11 4:16 UTC.
  • On the day of release, players were able to teleport like normal, thus resulting them in losing all their items and points collected, and being removed from the game. This has been fixed.
  • As of the day of release players can attack any mystic during the game by using magic attacks. He drops bones which disappear after the game. If players use a curse spell he will fight back. If the player has the Auto Retaliate option on, a player's "fighting back" will display the clay screen. This glitch has currently not been fixed.
  • During an update, all players are required to log out. As players logged in afterward, Free-to-play players were halfway stuck in the ground for about 2 hours. When attempting to move, they received the message "You need to be on a members server to do this."
  • There is also a glitch with the clay armor availiable as a reward. if someone tries converting the helmet to a mage one, it will instantly turn to mage bottoms, therefore they will lose the helm. The glitch has not been fixed yet.
  • On the day of release, several of the clay tool forms did not provide experience bonuses as advertised, such as the axe and pickaxe. The glitch has not been fixed yet.
  • There is also a glitch in the Clan vs Clan matches. There has been numerous times players have said that when the game starts the timer starts at 1 minute insted of a full game. It gives each team(although when the game start it says "The other team has forfeit") to gather as much clay as possible. After the game is over, it causes an automatic win or loss for either team despite it saying the supposed team had forfeited. Zexion056 has a video on youtube of the glitch.
  • There was a glitch with the bow reward were you had the ability to wield the a shield.
  • There is a glitch when sometimes when the game starts, the one minute alert will be up and the clock will be flashing for the whole game. Though the game still lasts 20 minutes.
