This article is about the monster that appears when players have a diamond of Azzanadra. For other uses, see Stranger (disambiguation).
[FAQ] [doc]

A stranger is a non-player character who sometimes appears when players have a diamond of Azzanadra in their inventory. He wields a poisoned Dragon dagger and follows the closest person to him. He is non-attackable to the players not doing Desert Treasure, and attempting to attack the stranger when not doing Desert Treasure will yield the message, "He has no interest in fighting you." The Stranger sometimes says "Master says hi" when he kills you (if you have a gem in inventory.)

He has been known in rare cases to stalk random players who aren't holding a diamond, and haven't started Desert Treasure, and in rare cases even attack them, which is problematic because they can't fight back. This is a glitch, and Jagex has yet to implement a fix.

Recent reports have also revealed that the stranger has appeared after Desert Treasure was completed, but will leave you alone if you log out, or wait a little while. Some players claim to have seen him while they have a Clue scroll (elite) in their inventory. There have been some cases of him appearing on free worlds, able to use a members weapon, which is probably due to members logging out and logging back in onto free worlds.

He uses a Dragon dagger (p++) and he attacks with its special attack very often, with no special attack bar limit. If you wish to fight him, protect from melee prayer is highly recommended, although it won't prevent him from poisoning you unless you bring an antipoison.

Avoiding the Stranger

The moment at which the stranger appears is random, as long as you are carrying the gems. To minimise the risk of the stranger, consider the following.

  • Have a weapon at hand (if you choose to duel him).
  • Have anti-poison ready to drink, in case he poisons you (which he probably will).
  • Prayer is recommended, as he can hit upwards of 150!
  • If you don't want to fight, make sure you don't turn back. It also helps to have auto-retaliate off, so that you don't turn back, thus risking becoming hit and poisoned.
  • Have teleport tabs at the ready until you bank the gems. The stranger does not have a teleport tracking device.

Also, always try to keep all your diamonds in your bank for your safety. However he can appear right after you get one of the diamonds, which can be annoying since you will probably have taken damage or exhausted Prayer from the fights. The more diamonds you have, the more chance for him to appear.

Trivia

File:Stranger in familiarisation.png

The stranger in the familiar plane.

  • After completing Desert Treasure, the stranger may appear. He can not be attacked after completing the quest and will follow you about. If you move far enough away from where he started following you, he will lose interest and start following another person, even if they haven't started Desert Treasure.
  • He can appear and attack you in the Distraction and Diversion, Familiarisation. You will fight with the same strength and accuracy as the weapon and the same defence as the armour you had when you entered the familiar plane but you will stay in familiar form while fighting.
  • He sometimes follows players who aren't doing Desert Treasure, without actually attacking them.
