The Superior rock-crushing scrimshaw is an item that can be made within a players' port workshop at level 85 Fletching once all four scroll fragments of Rock Crushing have been retrieved from the Player-owned port minigame. This item will last 4 hours after which the player will need to make a new one.
When equipped, it offers a 20% chance to crush the ore (losing it in the process) in exchange for increased experience while Mining.
Due to the changes in juju mining potions turning ores into bars, there's a chance between crushing the ore and turning it into a bar (before this update, the rock-crushing effect had priority).
Previously, when you used this scrimshaw along with juju mining potions, the rock-crushing effect had priority over the auto-banking effect, so that ore was to be crushed rather than auto-banked when a stone sprite was active. However, when varrock armour or golden mining armour was worn, if two pieces of ore were obtained, only the first one was crushed. The second may have been auto-banked if a stone sprite was active, or would have appeared in your inventory.
While mining gold ores you get 65 xp per ore. When the Scrimshaw crushes the ore and converts it into additional Mining experience you get 90 xp (total). The Golden Mining Suit gives 5% bonus (4.5 xp).
