This talk page is for discussing the Aberrant spectre page.

I saw a guy using Protect from Magic against Aberrant Spectres, and it seemed to block out their attacks. I don't know about Protect from Melee though...  Tien  01:24, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

never mind, someone changed it.

there attack is magic based... so protect mele wouldnt work. im at them right now atm and protect mele doesnt work :P  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk).

Mind Sheild

Do you need one of those? to fight them  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Fofo7848 (talk).

You do not need a mind shield to fight them.--07stanleycup 21:47, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

I thought it was impossible to wear any helmet while wearing a nose peg, how Mind shield even found it's way in to this article, it escapes me somewhat. --Em lost 23:43, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

...You don't wear a shield on your head... WWTDD? 23:56, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Drop lists

Do we really need two of 'em? Sir Revan125 17:08, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

The page had been duplicated (copied and pasted twice). I've fixed it. Weird gloop.png @Gaz#7521 17:58, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Has anyone else exprienced what I have in the smoke dungeon - that drops are less than at other locations (specifically, there are more times when the monster drops nothing at all)? This seems tre for aberrants, basilisks, turoths, and kurosks. Even monstrous cave crawlers seem to have drops of nothing more often than regular cave crawlers elsewhere.

About Salve Amulet

I seriously don't think the Salve amulet (s) works on these guys. I wore it on one trip, but I didn't hit anything more than 25. I can hit 30 with the amulet. So the rest of the trip, I used a Fury.  Tien  15:12, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

It works/worked for me. My max hit was a little lowered though, probably because my rune defender was switched for an unholy boook, my dragon boots for white boots, and my helm of neitiznot for a nosepeg. What else do you use on other trips, that forgot on this one? Like a (super) strength potion, a strength prayer, swapped a whip for a dragon scimitar, etc... If your still unsure, try another few trips. You might just have been unlucky to not hit higher than 25. It can happen. Hope it helps. Weird gloop.png @Gaz#7521 19:47, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

New equipment pictures?

Surely the prayer potion user would be wielding either a god book (preferably unholy) or a falador shield 3? And the non-prayer user would have a spectral spirit shield/mind shield/saradomin book/elemental sheild? Why would you wear a magic defence reducing shield that gives a prayer bonus when not using prayer? Weird gloop.png @Gaz#7521 16:52, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Tanking is Good

I went killing these guys with a magic def bonus of 103,defence level 71, and I only used about 1 monkfish per spectre. And an inventory of monkfish is cheaper than a single prayer pot. It seems to be the much cheaper option than prayer.--Armadyl Helm‎Long Live ArmadylArmadyl Helm‎ 13:45, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

It's even easier with full armadyl, although that is extremely expensive armor. With a magic level of 94 and a magic defense bonus of +155, I used a bunyip, enhanced excalibur, and barely needed any food at all. Although the gear is expensive, if you already have it, it's worth using since the savings in prayer pots is substantial. To3cutt3r 03:39, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

I've had great luck with only wearing Black D'hide Top and Bottoms (Magic Def is +104), and with my Unicorn Stallion, I don't need to bring food at all. I'm Magic 99, defense 84, and constution 88 for a unicorn heal of about 132. Note in the above post that Armadyl gives a negative melee bonus, but I suppose the magic defense outweighs this if you have the money and no Unicorn. MonstroTown 18:17, April 10, 2010 (UTC)

It says that blue are rare for them, I received more blue from them than any other, followed by green, then gold. Dsctatom 11:48, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

I think you were just lucky, I rarely receive any blue, mostly green and gold.--Armadyl Helm‎Long Live ArmadylArmadyl Helm‎ 21:29, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
no igot all charms, green gold blue and crimson,, about 7 gold 9 crimson, 8 green, and 9 blues after my 1 task-- 01:49, October 1, 2009 (UTC)

I also tend to get more blue charms than of the other colours. --Silv3rlining 18:29, December 8, 2009 (UTC)Silv3rlining

Still getting more blue then any other charms. --Silv3rlining 17:24, December 17, 2009 (UTC)

Next time i get them as task i will add to the drop log. --Slayer Silv3rlining Slayer helmet.png 15:42, December 26, 2009 (UTC)

the herb drops easily pay for the added cost of using prayer. So much so that being able to stay till your inventory is full of valuable herbs (ranarr, irit and above) by using prayer is more efficient in terms of money making than "tanking". --Tortilliachp 16:42, December 26, 2009 (UTC)

Is it possible that the Aberrant Spectres in the Slayer Tower have a different charm drop rate than the ones in the Desert Slayer Dungeon? I'm on a task at the moment and my ratios are off, as in I have twice as many greens and crimsons and half the number of golds as I should. I know this is true for Black demons in the Chaos Tunnels, so it may be true here.ledzepmtg in most reference frames 20:10, May 31, 2010 (UTC)

Max hit

Drop List

Who changed the drop list to that scroll window? It is annoying. --Slayer Silv3rlining Slayer helmet.png 09:53, December 27, 2009 (UTC)

Holy/Unholy Book?

This page suggests the Holy Book over the Unholy book when using prayer. It seems to me that, since the two items have the same Prayer bonus and the Unholy book has offensive bonuses, the Unholy book would be better. Anyone agree/disagree?

 Agreed! I'll change it 04:36, March 26, 2011 (UTC)

Choice of weapon

Is melee better than ranged on these guys?

if melee is better; whip or saradomin sword as ss has a crush bonus....

As with most things, the choice of weapon may vary greatly depending on what your various stats are. The Wikia says the Aberrant spectres are weak to Crush. RuneHQ says they are weak to stab. And I just met a guy in the Slayer tower who says they are weak to slash. With my stats, I seem to be having much faster results with Abby whip & Dragon defender using Slash, followed by Zammy spear using Crush, followed by Dragon mace and defender on Crush. Zammy spear I think would be one of the best choices to use for testing which style is best, as the weapon has similar stats on each style (though it is stronger on stab). You should readily see if there is much difference. I just hadn't tried that, but it might be illuminating. I should mention that I do not have access to a Saradomin godsword. However, I did use the Saradomin sword on crush, and it seems to hit very randomly, sometimes a good hit, sometimes not, usually fairly weak hit, and it is also slower than Abby whip. So I don't know why Abby whip is put last on the list. But that may be totally different for someone who is an Atk or Str pure, for instance. Warp9pnt9 21:39, December 3, 2011 (UTC)
Is there any reason no one uses zammy spear? They are weak to stab so why not?

I edited the drop table a bit, whoever put the uncut ruby as ring of wealth only clearly has no idea what they're doing, I changed it back to rare

Dragon Dart Drop

I got a drop of 125 dragon darts from these and a friend of mine said he got the drop aswell. Not sure if its RDT drop or a normal drop. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) on 09:08, 20 June 2011 (UTC).

Usually drops in that high amounts are from the RDT. I've heard you get a game message when the ROW activates (which it usually only does when accessing the RDT) so that could prove it, but I have never seen any such message myself (could be that I'm just unlucky). My contributionsTHARKON 14:01, June 21, 2011 (UTC)

The message isn't shown if you have set 'game' to 'filter', rather than 'all', which makes a lot of sense if you consider, for example, a cave horror task on which it glows every kill. Quest.png Morte369 Hexcrest detail.png 18:45, July 1, 2011 (UTC)

There's a message? I don't think it makes sense, at least not when it's not every kill. Proven by the fact I didn't even know ROW's gave messages cause I'm always using the filter. My contributionsTHARKON 21:02, July 3, 2011 (UTC)

Salve amulet, Salve amulet (e) and Amulet of fury.

Looking for some clarification.

Salve amulet (e)/Amulet of fury/Amulet of Glory
(If you are using Slayer Helmet and on an Aberrant Spectre slayer task, it is not recommended to wear the normal Salve Amulet since the boosts do not stack).

I am unclear on this. It seems to imply that the Salve amulet does not stack, whereas the Salve amulet (e) does stack with the Slayer helmet or Full slayer helmet. This contradicts the Salve amulet (e) page which states:

For players on undead Slayer assignments, the boosts of a salve amulet do not stack with the effects of a Black mask or Slayer helmet. Only the larger boost will be effective. The larger boost being the Salve Amulet (e), so slayers may still find it useful on undead tasks.

Which means if using Slayer helmet and the Salve amulet (e), then the amulet's boost will work, but if using the Slayer helmet and the Salve amulet, then the Slayer helmet boost will work instead?

Is there a formula to figure out at which point using an Amulet of fury + Full Slayer helmet is better than Salve amulet (e) and some other helmet such as Helm of neitiznot?

Also, does the prayer boost of the Amulet of fury tip things in favor of that instead of the Salve amulet, if using a prayer method?

I tend to think a Full slayer helmet which gives a 16.667% boost is nearly as good as a Salve amulet (e) anyways, and adding the Amulet of fury would probably surpass the Salve amulet (e) + Helm of neitiznot. I do not have any void knight sets so I can't comment on those.

Warp9pnt9 19:13, December 3, 2011 (UTC)

It's very simple really: On undead creatures the salve amulet and black mask do the same. They don't stack, so you should use either of these and replace the other with whatever item you would normally wear. Since the amulet of fury has a bigger offensive bonus than the helm of Neitiznot you should use the black mask and an amulet of fury. The enchanted salve amulet is stronger however, and for this reason the amulet is always better than the mask. And the mask can be replaced with the helm of Neitiznot.
So in short: Never combine a salve amulet (enchanted or not) with a black mask or slayer helm. I don't think the difference between amulet of fury and helm of Neitiznot are ever bigger than the 5% extra bonus from the enchanted salve amulet, unless maybe at such low levels that you would not be able to obtain any of these items anyway. If only Monster Examine was updated so it actually became a useful spell and told use the monster's stats. My contributionsTHARKON 21:07, December 4, 2011 (UTC)
They require a nose peg or full slayer helm though, otherwise you get pretty harsh stat reductions. So wearing both a slayer helmet and salve amulet is beneficial. Or have they completely changed the way slayer monsters reduce stats? Law rune.png Samberen Nature rune.png 11:44, November 28, 2012 (UTC)

Differnce in charm drop rates? - data collection

Charms: Differences between locations

Since I noticed a big spike in blue charm drop rates when I swapped to Pollinveach, I'm just going to keep a quick and dirty track of my drops by location - additional information welcomed (Kvetcheternal (talk) 00:49, November 29, 2012 (UTC)):

Of 138 killed: 15 gold, 5 green, 4 red, eight blue {not that far off what the charm calculator thinks}

Slayer Tower

Ghostly essence new drop ?

I just received a drop of 36 ghostly essence in 1 kill. Did they adjust the drop table recently ? I was the only one farming them in the slayer tower at that time. i did have a luck of the dwarves on me while farming if that has anything to do with it.

Mantricore (talk) 00:26, May 30, 2018 (UTC)

Did you have the mask of stench or helm of foulness on at the time? That would double your drop, so it would be possible to get 36 in 1 kill. ɳex undique 00:46, May 30, 2018 (UTC)
Yes I did, you're right that makes sense now, sorry bout that.
