Are we sure Ankous drop the dragon spear/dragon shield half?

Ive been hunting then constantly for weeks and have had no drops.

I'm f2p but my friend who is a member got a dragon spear from an Ankou. --Frogging101 20:56, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Death rune members only?

In the article it says that they only drop death runes for members. Death runes are not members only, is it true that they will only drop it for members? Giantfrog(Contribs) Frogging101 (My talk)Giantfrog 23:16, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Its true that death runes are not members only item but the ankou only drop death runes if you are in a member's world (server) Fatman4ever 12:52, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Ranging lv 82 Ankous

Every location I tried ended up with something, be it Skeleton or Ankou, walking around and attacking me while I was ranging an Ankou. An image of the map showing where the spot is would be helpful. Dsctatom 12:00, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

In the stronghold of security, the safe spots to range ankou is not perfectly safe; its only considered a safe spot because there is an obstable preventing an ankou from the front of you getting close enough. However, while you are ranging one ankou and the other monsters did not developed "tolerance" yet because you have been there for only a short amount of time, the other ankou will still attack you if they happen to find a way to you. Fatman4ever 12:51, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Safest spot is in the sw corner of the middle-south room (the one marked AS on the map). The safe spot is just inside the sw door, on the west hand side. Armcie 23:08, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

what do level do you consider to be a higher level player

im wondering if killing them with attack at level 57 is safe  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Legaking (talk).

I'd advise 70+ attack for fighting these guys. A person with 90+ combat is usually considered a higher level player. --D E E J E

You can easily kill them; they are much easier then Elvarg. I bet you can kill them without food.

I can easily kill the level 75 Ankous with 45 attack, strength and defence. Just remember to bring some food.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cjkins (talk) on 14:42, 22 March 2010.

Do the Ankous in the Volcano drop the Skull Halves? It never says so in the article.--Momo Mooman 18:10, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

I don't think so. Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 20:42, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Drop tables (charms) - different levels

For monsters like ankou, is it assumed that the different levels have the same drop percentages (e.g. charms)? I recorded some data from level 75s, and some data that was combined 75s & 82s, but have placed it all in one table for now. (Note: Just 111 kills recorded - while it seems unlikely that blues are more common than greens or crimson, I happened to get 2, 1 & 1, so that's what is in there for now.) JalYt-Mej-Wynde 18:40, November 16, 2009 (UTC)

Weakness

I highly doubt that Ankou are "very weak to Stab attacks"; in fact, I believe that their weakness is Crush. Using the Smash option on a Saradomin Sword hits more often than the Slash option, despite the 22 difference in their Accuracies. Quest point cape Orodalf Talk Nature rune 20:07, December 29, 2009 (UTC)

Pretty sure, since sara sword can't "STAB". It does provide "SLASH" though.

Drops left skull and uncut sapphire at the same time?

I've had this happen to me 3 times before. An ankou dropped both a left skull half and an uncut sapphire in a single drop (along with bones, of course). I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else before, and if the left skull half could be accompanied by anything, not just an uncut sapphire. Runite ore Icy001(talk) Rune bar 06:07, January 2, 2010 (UTC)

I just got a left skull half and an uncut sapphire from an ankou at the same time just like you said. I will be posting more if I get more of these drops. - Teharcher8 20:08, March 28, 2010 (UTC) Got another left skull half and uncut sapphire at the same time. - Teharcher8 20:24, March 28, 2010 (UTC) Happened again. - Teharcher8 01:39, March 29, 2010 (UTC) A couple of times I have gotten left skull half with a few coins. - Teharcher8 01:48, March 29, 2010 (UTC)

Probably just coincidence, but of nine left skull half drops, I had either two or three with uncut sapphires, one with an uncut emerald, and at least three with nothing (could be a blank spot on the rare item table). However, at least one dropped with coins. It was enough that it caught my attention, though, and it was before I saw this comment. Controlled test of ten thousand skull drops, anyone? =) JalYt-Mej-Wynde 19:42, June 25, 2010 (UTC)
226 kills in f2p Stronghold, five skull half drops (first one not until 151st kill - thought it was never gonna happen!), three came with uncut gems (the only three uncut gems I got), one came with nothing, and the other I'm not sure about (but I think it was either coins or arrows). It's obviously not a 1:1 correlation, but it seems obvious to me that it's more than just a coincidence. How to phrase this in the trivia?
Also got a right half from the minotaurs with an uncut ruby, but that happened just once, so I'm not jumping to any conclusions. JalYt-Mej-Wynde 20:57, July 14, 2010 (UTC)
Its starting to sound like the left skull half is dropped whenever the player gets access to the rare drop table. It drops the half at the same time as an item from the rare drop table, most of the time gives a gem. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar 21:01, July 14, 2010 (UTC)
Psycho, note that both Teharcher8 and I received the skull half with coins (Teh "a couple of times", me at least once). That's why I said that it's not a 1:1 correlation with the rare drop table. Accessing the rare drop does *does* seem to make it (much!) more likely, and it's possible that accessing the rare drop table automatically gives the skull half - it's not possible to tell which of those "nothing" drops are empty slots on the rdt and which are just "normal" Nothing drops, if you know what I mean. It could be disproven with a drop of a gem (or other rare drop table item) and *no* skull half, but I don't see that it could be proven (except by being "proven" statistically). But note that the skull half *does* drop when something *not* on the rare drop table is received. Unexpectedly complicated logic. This is why I asked (mused) "How to phrase this in the trivia?"... JalYt-Mej-Wynde 19:55, July 15, 2010 (UTC)
I guess that's true. I suppose the simplest way to prove once and for all that its not attached to the rare drop table would be a gem drop which did not come with a skull half. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar 20:05, July 15, 2010 (UTC)
Agreed. I'll keep taking note of my skull drops.... But I think my next "mission" with ankou will be to see if you can get a skull drop in the volcano, since that doesn't seem to have been answered. JalYt-Mej-Wynde 23:42, July 15, 2010 (UTC)
I have just recieved my first right skull after killing about 150 ankous. It didn't drop anything else with it, other then bones of course. but after I killed my 151st ankou it dropped another right skull with an uncut sapphire with it right there, I was shocked, but nevertheless I managed to picked it up. Just wanted to apply this information here. 5:23, August 3,2010 (EST)  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.248.49.102 (talk).
Thanks for the input. Yes, that's the way with independent random events - you could conceivably go thousands of kills without a single skull drop, then get three in a row. (Very unlikely, though - and the fact that you had gone for two thousand kills without a skull drop in no way influences the likelihood of getting three in a row... Or even one.) Was this in the Stronghold or Volcano? JalYt-Mej-Wynde 15:35, August 20, 2010 (UTC)
I'm still looking for a definitive answer on the skull drops at the Volcano. I strongly suspect that it isn't dropped there, of course, but I'm trying to keep an open mind. I only had 300-400 kills there (will have to check my records) when I interrupted my tests and haven't gotten back to them. No skull parts yet, obviously (if even one drops, then the test is over!), and just two gems so far, so I plan to keep testing for a bit before I "call it." JalYt-Mej-Wynde 15:35, August 20, 2010 (UTC)
I am prepared to "call it" as far as skull pieces dropping at the volcano (my answer: No). I'm making a new section (below) about this.
As for the other issue, what the skull piece drops alongside (in the Stronghold), someone has added a statement in the Trivia about them dropping with a "rare seed/item". I've been tracking this in f2p, so I can't speak to seeds, though if this is true it blows my theory about some link to the rare drop table out of the water. I don't recall seeds ever being mentioned as being likely candidates for the rare drop table. Sigh.
... But to continue my reporting, two more skull piece drops, one with a gem, one with 17 coins. (Still no gem drops without pieces.) Just curiosity.... 8 coins is much more common than any other quantity (and more common than all others put together, it appears). I'm not at all sure, but when the skull piece has dropped with coins, I don't think that I have seen it with exactly 8. Not sure what this means - as I've said, the logic seems complicated - but for anyone posting that they get the skull piece with coins - was it 8 or some other quantity?
Sigh. I may be going beyond trying to improve the article at this point, and moved on to satisfying my curiosity... JalYt-Mej-Wynde 18:07, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
I've noticed that this phenomenon is not unique to Ankous; whenever a minotaur, flesh crawler, catablepon, or ankous drops a gem, it drops one of the pieces of the Skull scepter. Ablm578 21:05, October 21, 2010 (UTC)
I thought I had seen the same thing, though I had not tried to carefully check except with ankou. For the others, though, it appears that they drop sceptre pieces with things other than gems more often than ankou drop pieces without gems. Just an impression, of course, since I haven't tried to quantify it. JalYt-Mej-Wynde 16:54, November 10, 2010 (UTC)

Aggresive

The Level 75 Ankou stops being aggresive when you turn level 56 combat, I just don't know where to put that in the article.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cjkins (talk) on 14:16, 22 March 2010.

Sorry, they've just turned aggresive again. I wonder how that could have happened.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cjkins (talk) on 14:32, 22 March 2010.

It's tolerance, depending on the creature, if you are in their general area for 10-15 minutes they will stop attacking, if you leave and come back (including random events), they will be aggressive again. I'm level 138 and ankous are still aggressive towards me. HaloTalk 20:35, March 22, 2010 (UTC)
All monsters are aggresive unless you are double and then + 1 of the monsters level. For example the monster is level 44. For the monster to be unaggresive to you, you would need to be 44*2 = 88 + 1 = 89.
With the level 75 Ankou you would need to be 75 + 75 = 150 +1 = 151 combat. Hope this helps you with all monsters and not just Ankou.
Taafe 16:45, December 8, 2010 (UTC)
Like Halo said, it is indeed with time. But with me (lv-92) It certainly takes more then 15 minutes. Measured it with a stopwatch (Ya I know I'm lifeless -_-), took 45 minutes without leave or random event. Explorer's_ring_(1).png 06:19, December 10, 2010 (UTC)
Sometimes you don't need to completely leave the area for it to reset, for example: the kurask cave is fairly tiny but if you run to the other side they will all become aggressive again. So that may be why it took so long for you to get tolerance. 66.169.101.69 19:51, February 7, 2011 (UTC)

No skull pieces in volcano

I am still willing to be proven wrong, and I admit that my amount of evidence is not enough for overwhelming statistical "proof", but I am willing to call it: Ankou at the Wilderness Volcano do not drop the skull half. I tracked about six hundred kills (more exact numbers later, if anyone cares), and four drops of gems (see discussion above if you wonder why I think this is significant, but basically I have not observed an ankou in the Stronghold to drop a gem and not drop a skull piece), and have seen no skull pieces in the volcano. My rate of skull pieces at the Stronghold has been about 1 in 50 to 1 in 150 kills - maybe even better than 1 in 50, but those are conservative estimates. If the drop rates were the same at the volcano, I would expect to have seen it by now. Also, as far as I can see, no one has spoken up and said "I got one at the Volcano" yet. (Considering all the apparently false claims of drops elsewhere, I am surprised that no one has done so even if they don't drop it.)

I added this with a "Raritynotes" parameter in the drop table. It's possible that it should be added to the body of the article, if anyone thinks it necessary. JalYt-Mej-Wynde 18:17, September 16, 2010 (UTC)

No Rare Drop Table?

Hey Guys.. new guy here, but i just wanted to note my observation that i havent yet recieved a single drop on the rare drop table(new ring of wealth update) as of yet. I have killed in excess of 500+ ankous and have still to recieve on of the special drops on the rare drop table. Yes i have been wearing an ring of wealth the entire time. Wonder if the list of saying it is on the rare drop table is incorrect?

Clue Scroll

Do the Level 75 ankous in the Stronghold of Security drop the level 3 clues? Because I've killed so many and it feels like they don't. If they can't, it might be worth mentioning in the article ;).
