Exactly what we need[]

In my opinion, this is probably going to be one of the best updates all year. Well done, JaGex. Just the other day, me and a friend were talking about random events and bots (one in particular, the prison pete event, came to mind, in which a player would just have to wait 15 minutes and would be released, and that there were some simple bots that don't solve puzzles) and that there were also some bots that can, however, from what JaGex has said, there won't be any possible way to get removed from the place without being personally removed by JaGex. However, one piece that concerns me is about the part mentioning a "Trial".9 When thinking of trials in Runescape, the court cases d&d comes to mind. If the system is anything like that (certain options means certain outcomes), then there will most likely be a bot capable of solving it. Sorry for the tldr paragraph, but it's what i think of this Lord Darkman63 00:15, September 3, 2012 (UTC)

This should have gone on the RuneScape forums, not here. Talk pages are chiefly for discussion about the article's content, not the article's subject. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 00:22, September 3, 2012 (UTC)
No worries--there's no puzzle here. Botany Bay is strictly for bots who Jagex has already decided to permanently ban. The "trial" is performed not by the bots, but by the legitimate players who visit. No matter what options the player chooses, the bot will always end up with a permanent ban as the final outcome. The choice only affects the animation that will play upon the bot's "death." N1ghtshade3 (talk)

Rated as Mature?[]

So Runescape after HTML5/Runetek 7 update this thing may display bots bleeding? This game will then become Mature only, just a guess Alex.aaa789 (talk) 08:13, September 5, 2012 (UTC)

The game's been moving towards mature for a long time Template:Signatures/Ciphrius Kane 08:14, September 5, 2012 (UTC

Removed "Bots will be detected within a minute"[]

So I went ahead and removed this statement from the article:

*Bots will be detected within the first minute of botting according to Jagex, however bots are now becoming so humanlike that it is unlikely this will ever happen.

Players do not agree that this will happen, even though Jagex reportedly states that it will happen. Is there a source for the statement?

I have witnessed bots being detected, but not within in minute Some Blonde 16:11, October 20, 2013 (UTC)

About to remove #Bot Nuke Speculation[]

No one has added any source for the Mod Mark citation, and multiple users have been adding equally unsourced information on top. I am about to remove the entire section if this continues.

Ha.[]

It's so ironic...there are dozens of people in Botany Bay right now, spamming things like "We want bots" simply because there aren't enough bots for everyone to stand trial for...lol

Edit: I think Jagex is actually making fake characters to have die, since you only get sent to the Bay once you've been caught botting on your third occasion. In between occasions, you receive an increasingly long temporary ban...how could there be bots on the first hour of release? Besides, they all have the same fake-sounding pattern of names, like "79 Bork Say," "60 Well Say" "Agility2209," and other things like that.

N1ghtshade3 (talk)

EDIT 2: We did some tests, and when we saw a bot get "crushed" in the GE, and the Botany Bay was open, it immediately held a trial for that bot correctly. The names are not fake. They are 100% real.

IrishPunk92 (talk) 10:47, September 27, 2012 (UTC)

Well, bots do normally have very generic names, and they could of been putting up pre-banned bots so that players could use Botany Bay when it came out. 66.82.162.18 20:45, September 26, 2012 (UTC)Miskils Bitch

They're banning real botters. FiendOfLight (talk) 20:47, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

Then how come they follow one of two patterns?: #1) A phrase followed by exactly 4 digits, or #2) 2 digits followed by 2 words? Show me an image of a bot from Botany Bay that doesn't follow one of these patterns?

N1ghtshade3 (talk)

Many bots that are generated nowadays use names from the character selection "this name is taken" list. This guarantees that the bot's name generation code will complete immediately with a name that is available. These names include things like what's cited here: "(Name of skill)(Digits)", "(Name of NPC)(Digits)", "(Three short words)" (like 'Eat Run Meat', say) and "(Name attempted)(Digits)" (if the creator is a human and enters his/her name, like Amanda, then the user will get a suggestion for Amanda65).  a proofreader ▸  00:45, September 28, 2012 (UTC)
If anything, N1ghtshade3, it is this exact pattern which is why you can tell they are bots. Most bots are randomly generated. Some regular players will use bots too, but most bots are randomly generated and follow patterns, which is how it is very, very easy to tell bots from legitimate players in the game. The way they got bots into Botany Bay right off the bat is by releasing code last week to kill ad bots, and they probably had records from previous bot nukes too which they kept on file. They pre-banned these bots so they could appear in Botany Bay, while the Botwatch System kept on working to try and ban more bots to get in there as well. That item is: Botanist's mask.[]

Curious find via QC, is it not? Surely something worth of wonder.. How many votes to gain if so, if even!?

Also just search for 'botanist' to find whole set. Whaddof?

The Botanist's mask is actually an item associated with the Herblore skill. When worn, it gives a 1% boost to Herblore xp. When the whole set is worn, it gives a 10% boost. It lasts 30 days before becoming a cosmetic item only, and can be won on the Squeal of Fortune.

Botfinder General[]

Perhaps the Botfinder General warrants his own page? He is an NPC, albeit uninteractable.

Name[]

How come there is no mention of the actual Botany Bay? The fact that rule breaking bots are sent there makes it is an obvious reference to the Penal Colony. Alfius (talk) 15:19, October 6, 2012 (UTC)

Star Trek?[]

Any connection with Khan's ship the SS Botany Bay from Star Trek?  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.208.239.154 (talk).

Bot message popups[]

It seems the bot message interfaces have been updated:

Anyone confirm if it's been updated to this? --Jlun2 (talk) 03:01, November 20, 2013 (UTC)

I can't do that because I've been using a bot[]

So yea, apparently if you botted and got flagged, you're invincible in these 2 minigames. --Jlun2 (talk) 14:30, November 29, 2015 (UTC)
