The Mechanics Behind The Clue Scroll[]
The clue scroll isn't just 1 item with a randomly chosen clue/map/slider puzzle, every single clue you get is it's own item, therefore when a monster drops a clue scroll the little technical java dwarves hiding inside the game spin a giant wheel of all the clue scrolls to decide which clue scroll you get. 1/12th of the 8000+ items in the cache of Runescape are Clue Scrolls. {{Signatures/Total Rune}}20:33, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Tradable?[]
It doesn't say on the page if a Clue scroll is tradeable. Is it? And if so, say on the page. Just correct me if I'm being blind. :) Psylark 17:07, 29 November 2007 (GMT)
I'm afraid they're untradeable. :[
More than one?[]
Am I reading this right? This article makes it sound like you can get multiple clue scrolls as long as they are different levels (like I could get a level 1 clue scroll and a level 3). I am about 90% certain this is false, but would like some confirmation before deleting it Aquilae

You can have just 1 clue scroll; no multiples of any kind. You cannot pick up another clue scroll if you have one in your bank/inventory. (you can see more than 1 on the ground because you have not picked any up, but you will only be allowed to pick one up.) Possible corrections[]
Kingdom clues, are they level 1 (easy) I got one today, and loads this month, got black stuff at best.
All clues are identical, the levels are only really definable by someone else doing a few from that monster till there is a one-level-reward. No mark, and therefore only one clue at a time. I've heard this even goes to not being able to pick one up, even though it would not normally be dropped (drop a clue from your inv while killing something that will drop it, then try to pick up both).
Mechanics don't sound right.tobylaneTalk 17:25, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- not a member* the article says that the lowest lvl to drop the lvl 2 clues r regular guards, acording to the fortress guard article, (fortress guard is a guard outside black knights fortress) whom are lvl 20 combat, drop lvl 2 clue scrolls. EDIT: I just wanted to add that i just got a level 2 clue from a level 19 guard. I know they are usually 21 but this guard wasnt.

It IS possible to get another clue scroll as a drop when you have one in your inventory. I have a snapshot on my userpage as proof. Tien 00:29, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Omfg, me too all my friends seem to get them like crazy, but I've gone like 2 weeks without a single clue scroll (and i rarely get them anyway) ...I've been killing Iron/Bronze dragons, Hellhounds, and just about anything that drops lvl 2 and 3 clue scrolls... no yield
yes you can have multiple ones if you get one as a drop dont pick up and then get another, however you cant pick both up as it will stop you from doing so

Time Taken = Better Reward?[]
It seems to me that the longer you take to do a clue, the better the reward. FOr example, when I had to do biohazard for a clue, I got a sara cloak. When my friend took ages to do one, he got ranger boots. Every clue that I have done in less than 30 minutes of getting, I have gotten nothing of value, I intend to test this hypothosis.--Long Live Armadyl

Multiple clue scrolls in one drop[]
As it shows in the picture on the clue scroll article I got 2 clue scrolls from one Cockroach Soldier. 3 of each in one day[]
I have been pickpocketing traders for clues and getting one about every 10 minutes. After the 3rd one, I have received none (in about 30 minutes). I have noticed this limit while slaying as well, but it is much less pronounced while slaying as the drop rate is so much lower. 75.40.159.81 14:21, September 19, 2009 (UTC)

I have pickpocketed HAM's and I have recieved 29 in a couple of hours (like 6hrs). I've been a MEMBER for 4 years, (off and on) so I don't know if that is anything. HAM's scrolls are always easy, but i got an Ancient God Book Page 4 sold for 650k. I LOVE PICKPOCKETING HAMS!!. -Bbrennan101-
I received 3 level three clues in a short amount of time, I tried to get get a fourth but after 2 hours of trying I realized that I could test if there is a limit. After another hour of trying still no clue...
WIthin 10 minutes of the daily server reset (when Zaff resells b. staves) I finally received a fourth clue. While this may be a coincidence I now belive that there is a 3 clue limit per day.
Unfourtunately there will be no way to prove this unless Jagex states this. Bakinblak009 01:23, March 24, 2010 (UTC)
With a cannon in Falador received three (Level 2) clue scrolls in a short amount of time, I've now wasted about 500 cannonballs trying to get another. Could just be coincidence.(TaintedS 19:48, May 9, 2010 (UTC))
I have gotten 2 lvl two clue scrolls from dagganoths (I quit killing them because I only had 500 cannonballs and didn't want to go buy more not because I couldn't get another clue scroll because I went straight to goblins after I got done with the second clue scroll) then I went to goblins and got 7 level one clue scrolls the rest of the day
Also if you are going to kill for level two clue scrolls with a cannon I find dagganoths are the best because if you are lucky you can get torstol, snapdragon, and other expensive seeds and pretty good range xp.
Umm guys...I'm pretty sure they're completely random. My luck is completely different: I'll kill guards for hours and not get one, then, I'll kill one as I'm passing by and one will drop. The one place where I feel has a bit more clues than the others is from H.A.M. members. I can only recall about 1 time where it took me more than 10 minutes to get a clue.
Actually I have been pickpocketing HAMs for clues WITH the possibility for double loot on each male and female members. i got my first clue within 5 minutes and 1 kickout lol. the second was obtained in a matter of seconds, i pickpocketed 1 member 3 times and on 3rd time i got it. After completeing the clue i tried to obtain a third and was almost killed after starting with 600 health, i worked for almost an hour and still didnt get a third, is there a limit pertaining how they are obtained?
- I'm rather certain there isn't. Last time I went pickpocketing for level 1s I did ~14 in a couple hours all from ham members. As for level 3s I've done up 9 in one day while other days I cant get one to save my life. I'm pretty sure it is just luck. --

From H.A.M members i have gotten 4 clues within a 2 hour period and 1 more in another hour period during the same day.
From H.A.M members (with 79 thieving), I average about 30 clue scrolls per day. This isn't a lie. With the correct equipment (teleport tabs) and someone who knows every 'easy' level clue off the top of their head, it's easily possibly to do this. 'easy' clue scrolls are my only form of income in RuneScape and I can manage about 20m+ per week. (Maybe this 'limit' is only for the 'hard' clues.)
I have gotten at least 5 clues from one hellhound task within a couple of hours. I can't remember if I got a 6th but it was at least 5. I chase clues all the time and what I have noticed is that you can go on an extremely long dry streak. However, these do not seem to appear only after getting a couple of clues in a day. From my experience there is no limit on clues. (I also do HAMs sometimes and complete about 6-8 clues/h consistently)
Ive done 42 clues today from pickpocketing HAMs, i usually have been getting a clue within 5 minutes, but now i have been going for an hour and a half and still nothing. I doubt theres a limit though im just having bad luck today. over 2.5m in loot though :D ~~Sh0k42~~
What is the monster that has the most common level 3 clue drop rate? (or clue drop rate in general)[]
Just wanted to know what monster i'd need to kill if i didn't care about anything but getting clues. What are the top 3 monsters with the best clue drop rate?
For a person capable of killing blue dragons for their bones and things, i received 4 level 3 scrolls in about...600 blue dragon kills in taverly dungeon? about 1 per day assuming that i played for 2 - 4 hours a day. I'd say blue dragons are the best, ive killed many hellhounds with cannons and things and receiving no clues after 2-3 hours.
~~Aoma~~
I would totally disagree with AOMA; best drop rate for level 3 clues are hellhounds. Get bank get a clue every trip to hellhounds. ==OF SUN==

Easiest Method for Level 4[]
Surely a level 131 Bronze Dragon is easier than a 230 Giant Mole? Will14smith Talk HS
The mole only uses one attack style so prayer negates all damage.
21:42, August 5, 2010 (UTC)
- Yes but bronze and iron dragons stay in one place instead of running over and over, no lightsource is needed to kill them, their second form of attack (firebreath) is very easily negated by anyone with a antidragon shield + antifire potion and there are many iron and bronze dragons whereas there is only 1 mole on every server.
Sci (talk)
00:02, August 6, 2010 (UTC)
- Just wondering, does the giant mole have a better chance of dropping lvl 4 clue, or is it random, because on the Giant mole page, the drop is "Rare" and for Bronze, it's "Very Rare" and mithril drag is "Uncommon"....... Death will follow you...but you can survive 03:05, August 13, 2010 (UTC)
- I find that KBD is easiest to hunt for elite clues, provided you have decent stats. Most monsters that aren't tougher bosses have a much higher chance of dropping a level 3 clue compared to an elite. I've gotten 3 level 3 clues from ~150 iron/steel draogn kills, and 2 elites from 71 KBD kills. Kuma3 19:43, August 21, 2010 (UTC)
Revenant Elite Clues[]
"Certain revenants". Thats not really specific. Do any revenants besides the rev dragon drop elite clues? We need to change the "certain revenants"? into the names of the ones that actually drop elite clue scrolls.Guthix1110 23:24, August 14, 2010 (UTC)

Proposal to clean up the page[]
When looking at the page for clue scrolls, everything seems to be so densely packed together, and it's hard to find information you need. I suggest that a new page should be made for each level of clue scroll, where detailed information can be added on what monsters drop it, types of puzzles that can be found in the clue, and the rewards. I think this would look much cleaner than the current mess. If anyone likes the idea, I'll go ahead and make the new pages. Kuma3 19:37, August 21, 2010 (UTC)
- Be bold, and it's an interesting idea. User:TyA/sig 19:40, August 21, 2010 (UTC)
I've created a page for Level 1 clue scrolls, and was going to finish creating the pages for the other ones, but I forgot I had to be up early tomorrow! Sorry for the inconvenience, I've added a construction tag, although I'm not sure if that's what I'm supposed to do. Any help with creating/cleaning up the articles would be appreciated, but I'll get to work on it as soon as I can tomorrow. Kuma3 04:44, August 22, 2010 (UTC)
Great idea, I was thinking the same thing but I haven't had time recently. This will definitely make the clue scroll pages much more clear :). I think we should keep the original clue scroll page along with the level 1, 2 and 3 too, that way we can have a page that discusses the clue scroll in broad terms and then 3 other pages to discuss the various levels in more details. Shinydarkrai94 04:59, August 22, 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback, I've reverted it back to the old version, and added a link to the main article. Kuma3 17:02, August 22, 2010 (UTC)
Rarity[]
I've been editting drop tables quite a bit lately and have realized that the rarity boxes for clue scrolls seem to be mixed between "random" and "rare". just wondering which one would seem to be more accurate because as I see it clue scrolls do have a drop rate dependent on the creature being killed which would eliminate the idea of them being random. Samba37 23:47, November 2, 2010 (UTC)
- The word random should not be used in any drops tables - in fact all drops could be described as random but that does not mean that they do not have a definite rarity that can be measured. In most cases they should be marked as 'rare', but depending on the monster may be 'very rare' or 'uncommon'. Also note that if editing in the Drops Table template then rarities should conform the list as given on the DropsLine page Henneyj 02:13, November 3, 2010 (UTC)
I have changed the section on level 2 clue scrolls to say that the easiest way to get them is cockatrices, based upon both my own experiences and the information on this site.

There is a rumor, about if you hold a clue scroll for a very long amount of time you wil get better rewards.
I will test this theory and get back to you.
Second, As off the ring of wealth update in march, the ring of wealth affect the drop rate of clue scrolls, so there is no limit. i tested this theory, and so far it is true.76.104.143.41 20:57, August 24, 2011 (UTC)Rakdar K
Ring of Wealth and clue scrolls![]
So far all 6 of my hard level clues crolls were dropped when the game stated that my 'ring of wealth shined brightly' 6 times! In a row! Now I'm working on gainging my 7th one. Anyone else ran nto this? And does ring of wealth really affect rewards, how could you tell, does the game indicate this? Thanks.
The ring of wealth always shines for me when I receieve a clue scroll drop. I guess this could indicate the RoW having an affect on the drop chance. Personally I do not believe the RoW influences the clue scroll reward - I have seen this bit of information floating around on the Wiki for a little while now, and frankly it needs a citation before it can be believed.
- That bit of information came directly from jagex on the row rework. --Henneyj 22:20, March 15, 2012 (UTC)
