100% Drops[]
The 100% drops of Tarddian crystals are stated in one place as 2-4, on another as 1-8. However, it would seem that I always get 2 at a time. Hilmarz (talk) 14:09, August 31, 2015 (UTC)
I've just killed 60 crystal shapeshifters and got 123 Tarddian crystals. I can confirm that it is possible to get 3 crystals at a time.Tls iceheart (talk) 18:57, October 15, 2015 (UTC)
Now that I have killed a few more crystal shapeshifters, I find that what actually happened is that there is a very small chance for the crystal shapeshifters to drop 5 Tarddian crystals, even without any crystal armour equipped. The chance should be at the magnitude of 1 in 100, so it's difficult to notice.Tls iceheart (talk) 15:54, October 20, 2015 (UTC)

- There is no other way to explain the parity of the crystals in my inventory. I got an odd number of crystals collected, which is not possible if it is always 2 crystals dropped. - Crystals are dropped 1 at a time. It's a weird mechanic. They drop 1 crystal when they die, and another a couple seconds later. It's easily possible that you picked up the first crystal before the second one spawned. I've done over 500 kills since they change, and kept close track of my crystals. I never use armour, it was always 2 crystals each. MolMan
- This time I have kept a close eye to the drops. I killed 58 more crystal shapeshifters, and got 3 crystals for 6 times, yielding 122 crystals. I did not wear any piece of crystal armour. I am now 100% certain that 3 crystals is a possible drop. As for the claim for 5 crystals, i will drop it for now, as i only used indirect evidence.Tls iceheart (talk) 17:18, October 20, 2015 (UTC)

- You were correct. I received 3 crystals from 1 of my 21 kills. For future reference, 2 crystals were dropped at once, and then 1 crystal dropped shortly after. I didn't get anywhere near the frequency you did. But that's likely due to the small sample size; I was only looking to see if I could get 3 at once. I'm not interested in establishing a drop rate for these, since those are entirely subjective anyways. MolMan 17:51, October 20, 2015 (UTC)

Late addition to this discussion: Been tracking the kills for a while now and I'm pretty sure I got a drop of 7 crystals followed by the usual 1 while wearing 4 pieces of armour. Curiously, it was with an attuned weapon seed drop. There is a small chance that I somehow had ended up with 2 Shapeshifters on me and didn't notice killing the other, so won't add anything to the article yet. - Further evidence that there's something going on here: Was wearing 4 armour pieces and got 5+1 crystals with a special drop (elder seed as a tertiary drop). 5+1 should be theorically possible with 4 armour pieces but very rare. I'm actually trying to go for it with a normal drop and haven't seen it yet in a few hundred kills. Thingummywut (talk) 11:47, May 2, 2016 (UTC)

An easy way to farm Crystal Shapeshifters without soul split[]
Since Crystal Shapeshifters can't change attack form if you're praying your weakness (eg. praying deflect ranged as a mage) you can only choose to fight Shapeshifters, who are initially in melee form, entangle them while praying against ranged and bombard them without taking any damage.
They can however use their crystall ball form and teleport next to you. This doesn't brake roots, so if you run away from them they can't pursue you —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 130.234.191.108 (talk) on 17 November 2015 at 12:21 UTC.
This doesn't seem to work now. I'm using mage and praying range but they switch to their magic form. Has jagex patched this?
- They stay in melee form for me with your setup. They do disable prayers from time to time, though, and re-enabling your ranged prayer makes them turn to mage. Thingummywut (talk) 11:49, May 2, 2016 (UTC)

It seems the elder seeds and the attuned crystal seeds are all tertiary, might wanna stick that on the page somewhere
