Category[]

What category should dairy cow go under? It's not an NPC because it isn't a character. It shouldn't be in the bestiary because it can't be attacked. It's more like an object that can be used with, like a range or sink. -- Couchpotato99 04:43, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

It is an NPC since it's a computer-controlled character. Just because it's not human doesn't make it a non-character. Shadowdancer 04:44, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Ok, so its a non-player. But it surely isn't a character. Wikipedia says that a Non-player character is a Fictional character which is a person who appears in a work of fiction, and a person is a being that is capable of reasoning, that it is self-conscious, and has an identity that persists through time. Now you can argue all you want that a cow is capable of reasoning and has an identity, but from its actions (giving milk) we see no evidence that it is sentinent in any way or can reason or have an identity. Therefore, I say that a cow isn't a character. -- Couchpotato99 05:06, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
We're not using the Wikipedia definition of an NPC, we're using the RuneScape definition of an NPC; It's anything which is a yellow dot on the minimap. (Some NPC's aren't yellow dots, but only because of camouflage or something, like Jungle spiders and Shadow spiders. They'd be yellow dots were it not for that.)
Even Ents are NPC's, as they show o=up as a yellow dot on the minimap. 80.3.96.42 15:13, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Oh, and they have a specific text colour when right-clicked. Don't know what it is though. Yellow, perhaps. Scenery bits are pale blue. 80.3.96.42 15:14, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Prize cow?[]

I'm sorry if this is obvious, but is there really a prized dairy cow on Gillie Groats' farm? --Canifis 05:03, December 23, 2009 (UTC)

Yes. The prized dairy cow is on the eastern side of the Lumbridge cow field, by the Al Kharid border fence. Granted, I have no clue how it is different from a normal dairy cow. Macdubghaill 09:46, December 24, 2009 (UTC)

Interesting. Trying to milk the Prized dairy cow elicits this dialog box: If you're after ordinary milk, you should use an ordinary dairy cow. Perhaps this cow is part of an upcoming quest. The right click of the cow features a chef's hat type of icon next to the options for the cow. Curiouser and curiouser... Macdubghaill 08:02, December 29, 2009 (UTC)

Release Date Incorrect[]

Dairy cows as they currently exist were not in RS1, nor in the early stages of RS2.  Originally, you would use a bucket with any cow to get milk.  I believe dairy cows (along with calves) were released on February 22, 2005, with the Lumbridge graphical overhaul, but I'm not positive. 68.188.103.65
