F2p Planks

At the repare the Lady Lumbridge, a note that F2p access to planks is in the Runes in the far west, At wilderness level 22 where planks spawn.  Bank you good stuff and use a cheap gear that you do not mind loosing. 72.71.178.10 08:35, September 30, 2015 (UTC)Strcat

I noticed a disagreement about what Dragon Slayer's difficulty should be. We may as well have a vote here. That just gave me an idea....Ok, have the vote first:

What is the difficulty of Dragon Slayer?

The poll was created at 09:19 on January 28, 2007, and so far 238 people voted.

My idea is that on each quest page instead of having the difficulty as a set number, we have a poll. That way we'd show what overall opinion shows on the quests's difficulty - which, after all, is nothing more than opinion. Thoughts to that? JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 09:20, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

It's a good idea, but sadly some people don't take polls seriously. On the poll above, people have rated the hardest free-to-play quest, a 1. People would just rate it 1 because they want to be funny. It's a good idea, but people would abuse it. Abyssal whip Frizkie Blue partyhat 01:52, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps we could have a redesigned poll system, at least for the difficulty polls. Maybe votes from users who are good contributors could count for more than votes from new users. Its not a perfect solution and it could still be abused, but it might help. I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL]] Talk - Contribs 19:19, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey...instead of just taking 3 pieces of equipment and the anti-dragon shield, why not take along a cheap helm (like iron) that you can afford to lose? It's extra protection, and if you die, you still keep your weapon, body, and legs, and the helm can be easily replaced.

I did the quest. It's a 4, 3 is too easy.Yellow partyhat Ilyas Talk Contribs 00:17, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

it deserves a 1 or a 2. I beat it without dying at level 46.

Rune Armour

I've put this down before and even deleted the reference - but listing how you need rune armour (or how much damage Elvarg does to rune armour) does not help anyone completing this quest because you can't put on rune armour until after you finish this adventure! --Talismonger 05:10, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

Actually, you can Wear rune armour(plateleegs, full helm, chainbody), but u can't wear rune platebody. you can wear and wield rune if you have an attack and defense level of 40. See Rune Armour

So I'm level 50 and I'm doing it, but my smithing level is 1. Do I need 34 smithing like this article says, or can I buy my way past that? Abyssal whip Frizkie Blue partyhat 01:38, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

In reality, no smithing is required. It is a good idea though since then at level 30 you can start smithing steel bars for money. I would recommend that you do The Knight's Sword so as to get up your smithing to 29, and then from there raise it up. What you need the 30 smithing for is to be able to make steel nails, which I would think would be hard to find on a non-member server. Or you could always get a friend to assist you in making them. Eternalsage0 22:49, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

I have done the maze part just now and noticed that there are 4 doors on the east wall. The correct door is the one 2nd from the north (2nd from the left from your player's point of view). I edited the main guide to make this clear.

Old times in the quest...

Hey dudes, someone remeber? if i'm not wrong, long time ago, we need to pay 50k instead 10k fot the Goblin in the prision. Someone remember this? Well, i've done this quest lotta of times for my friends... Thats an interesting fact for the Trivia section... gratz for da great article... \/¬¬

does any one know if u still cut off the dragons head even if u have no cutting tools in your invetory?

if so add that to trivia
No, You can cut it off without ^

How long ago? I remember doing this around 2004, and it was 10k still.

Dragon's Head

I don't remember cutting it off when I did it...

  • It's new.

Wall

Everyone used to say that you had to go through the wall before you or after you killed Elvarg or you would not be able to get back to Crandor afterwards. It is not in the guide. Is it a false rumor or has it been fixed?

Well, When I started fighting I was to scared and tele'd out and came back through the wall...

So then you believe one does not need to go through the wall any longer? SamRosenfeld 03:23, December 29, 2009 (UTC)

Hero or Final Hit?

To receive Elvarg's head (and complete the quest), do you need to be the hero (deal the most damage to her), or just get the final hit? The article on Elvarg says that getting the final hit would suffice, but several of my friends seem to think that you need to be the hero. Should something be added to the article to clarify this? I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL]] Talk - Contribs 20:25, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Elvarg is laughibly easy to kill

I had 25 ranged when I did dragon slayer and using the safespot, I was able to kill Elvarg with a crossbow and 200 bronze bolts. I used no food.

I had a combat lvl of 43 and ranged lvl 20. I beat Elvarg in like 10 minutes using the same technique. The crossbow is awesome.--Cool Panino 11:06, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

A level 3 did it, and a level 6. Just goes to show how dead simple it is.

Hey, i'm Level 56 (55 before i finished) and i finished her in about 3 minutes. My friend died with a full inventory of lobbys.

Will this work with magic? What level magic should I have? Can't Elvarg's fire breath still hit you from the safespot? SamRosenfeld 00:10, September 25, 2009 (UTC)

I...actually finished teh quest with just melee and prayer, adn it worked fine for me, exceptionally fine, actually. Ralnon (talk) 23:33, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

Elvarg drains prayer WTF

How long has this happened? 88.148.210.167 21:36, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

It has never happened. Elvarg possesses no ability to affect Prayer in any way, shape, or form. This might be the work of a vandal, but also potentially an innocent error of a well-meaning user. Wait...does she drain Prayer? Has this been confirmed? Ralnon (talk) 23:33, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

HELP NO FOOD

What do I do, when you run out of food? I cannot beat elvarg because my swordfish ran out. The people around me won't give food because nearly everyone wants you to die to take your armor.

Exit the cavern, go south (past the lessers), and push the wall. You can then climb the rope to the southeast to get to Karamja, or enter the TzHaar cave if you're a member (there's a bank there, and the monsters are not agressive). You can then restock and return.
Oh, and they can't take your armour because only items worth under 3,000 (5,000 now?) will become visible to others - I assume you're using nothing less than adamant armour, worth over 3,000 coins? Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 18:52, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

ftp

this quest guide is made from a ftp point of view. it says that you should use "adamant-rune" and assumes you dont know how to get planks. is this implying that should i do the quest in full dragon i will be 1 hitted?

Well...F2p quests are normally in their point of view. I guess we should improve some f2p quests to include member's point of view. Santa hat Powers38 おはようヾ(´・ω・`) 01:58, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
If the wikpedia guide recommends that a quest can be completed wearing adamant or rune armor, it is folly to suggest that should you be wearing full dragon armor, you'll be one-hit by Elvarg (of course you would not get one-hit wearing full dragon armor, which is higher than rune). Use some thought before posting a ridiculous comment like that. 173.33.192.97 05:37, November 6, 2011 (UTC)penguin.

Now that I think of it, yes, even with Prayer-boosting items, my own Prayer points did drop to zero far faster than I had assumed. Can this be confirmed, though? Ralnon (talk) 21:47, November 10, 2009 (UTC)

Youtube video/Lowest level player under "Trivia"

I've deleted the bullet-point in the Trivia section regarding the lowest level player to have defeated Elvarg as this claim is not completely verifiable as no official record has been kept of what level players have defeated Elvarg. Furthermore, the inclusion of the player's Runescape username and a link to a Youtube video about the attack seems to be solely to the end of fame mongering

RE: Youtube video/Lowest level player under "Trivia"

The video should be more than enough verification for you. I added the information and video to show people that it can be done at lower levels, it's not a level 4 difficulty quest by any means. I also posted my username so that people could pm me if they had questions, honestly, I dont need the "fame".

Also, I'm not sure how the video violates TOU.

If i were to leave the lair

would he recover to full hp like the corporeal beast?

The secret entrance...

I kill Elvarg but i didn't know about the secret entrance and i never used it- I teled back to lumbridge.

Does this mean i cant go back to Cranador?

I believe you can go back through the volcano's cave on Karajama. If that's the secret entrance you're talking about, then it should let you through now. AuraLord 18:46, July 13, 2010 (UTC)

  • The part in the trivia which says "If you enter the lair, and someone else is attacking Elvarg, if Elvarg decides to attack you instead, both of the players will receive Elvarg's head." doesn't work. I have tried it 3 times and almost lost my armour because of it. Please reply.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 121.6.201.61 (talk).

Bit Overhyped as a Quest?

I decided just to try killing Elvarg on my low level mage in f2p, and it wasn't too bad:

  • 20 swordfish used (4 spare) + varrock teleport used.
  • 23 casts of Wind blast - (you can hit about 150) -{Note that death runes are expensive}
  • 12 defence, 41 mage (leveled to 42 while killing), 30 hp. Bunch of melee stats unused (30 attack, 20 str, 2 range) - lvl 33 combat. also had 25 prayer, but that was drained pretty quickly, I was using Mystic Will too.
  • Followed the guide on the page with wizard hat, robe, chaps, leather gloves, Gunnar's ground boots, air staff, magic amulet, cape + Anti-dragonfire shield.
  • Also I didn't bother finding any safespots, but I wasn't in melee range of the dragon.--Chieftain Alex 12:25, January 19, 2011 (UTC)

Minimum skill levels

Anyone care to share the exact minimum skill stats that one needs to complete the quest? --Limxzero 14:17, July 16, 2011 (UTC)

I think it is about time the minimum requirements are updated now that we have the Evolution of Combat. It is no longer difficult to melee the dragon at combat level 60 in mithril armor if you spam your abilities.

I was successful using a level 62 account with 30 attack, 12 strength and 30 defense. I used mithril armor with carapace boots and gloves and a strength amulet. I used one strength potion, 3 doses of defense potion and 12 lobsters. I think the potions were probably overkill and as long as you took a full inventory of lobsters, 30 attack, 10 strength and 30 defense would be sufficient for low difficulty, repeatable, successful fights. Anyone else have thoughts? --Sir Steeda (63.230.49.224 03:08, July 15, 2013 (UTC))

Yea, the quest is super easy now. Level 34 in black armour, 29 attack, 21 strength, 29 def. Had amulet of glory and berserker ring equipped. Full inventory of tuna, only ate 9 of them. 199.111.113.143 16:44, January 31, 2015 (UTC)

Less Steel Nails Required?
