Comparison of Lumbridge and Barbarian Village lure spots

Is the Lumbridge spot actually faster in terms of fishing and banking than the Barb village spot? In lumbridge you have to walk back to the castle, up a flight of stairs and into the bank, while you can use the edgeville bank for barbarian village, which is a far more linear route. Personally i've found barbarian village to be quicker. Sol Levante 07:55, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

In the absence of data, I chose to remove the recommendation of which spot to use. Testing the time it takes to go between the bank and the fishing spots would help to solidify things, but I would also probably say that Barbarian Village is going to be faster. Troacctid 05:24, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

If you sell the fish caught at Lumbridge at the general store, Lumby river luring is faster than Barb Village.

I know this is an old topic, but for people who see this in the future, **you don't have to bank in the castle**. Wear your Ring of kinship and teleport to Daemonheim, where you can use the Fremennik banker to bank. Then, home-teleport to Lumbridge. This is pretty fast (I measure 30-45 seconds total, including both teleports). FieryEquinox (talk) 04:46, July 10, 2012 (UTC)

Fishing at Lumb and banking at training ground deposit box is the fastest in my opinion. Someone do the calculations please. 07:24, May 13, 2013 (UTC)PodiBanda

Need exp for fishing... --TimeStopper 22:05, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

what are the quests that give fishing exp?

Should each equipment have it's own page? --Richard1990 22:40, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Evil Bob is definitely not 'fishing only', I get him all the time when alching, and I've had him a couple of times in combat situations too. --Eucarya 23:23, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

There, I guess I'm done revising. IMO, this is one of the best articles we currently have! --Richard1990 21:32, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Fishing Changed

With the new update the fishing animations have been changed. Maybe these should be updated?

Is there a source for these prices? Valid sources would include RS forums, Tipit Forums. Just a quick question.

In the Harpoon and cage fishing spots, "This is the only spot where free players can fish tuna, swordfish, and lobsters." is wrong. Free players can fish these in the Wilderness fishing spot 11:47, 20 November 2006 (UTC) fixed it (same person)

Rainbow fish

Hey, I just tried out some stripy feather fishing.

Here's the information.

Rainbow fish

Fishing XP: 80 Cooking XP: 110 Heals: 11 hit point

I do not know how to add it into the fishing and cooking section however. So can someone kindly stick that information in?

I have just the the Hungry Fish attack me, feel free to update it, as needed.

the name "Scaperune" needs to be properly capitalized the "R" in Scape"R"une so it is ScapeRune.--Alex 18:03, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Random Event

On most servers if you look at the karjarma docks you can see up 2 I,ve seen 25 autoers there at once. Random events dont wrok very well at stoping them if u ask me. --(someone who didn't sign...)

That is true, the karamja (misa point) fishing spot is heavily infested with auto fishers. This is partly because this is the one of the two places in the f2p world that has available lobsters, tuna, and swordfish. This is also one of the few fishing places that has no npc guarding it. Until Jagex puts up some monster npc, those auto fishers will keep coming back, in spite of the risk of random events. --(someone who didn't sign...)
Do you report them? Rule 7 reports help the automatic macro detection system, so just report any suspected macroer. Reporting helps passing the time, too :-) (Jagex tells me no harm is done if you accidentally report a legitimate player.) --Paania 14:32, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

COncerning reporting, yes i do report them. Unfortunately, players that make auto accounts or macroers are making more autos at a rate faster than jagex can ban autoers. as a result, problem with macroers continue despite the reporting system. so far, only the presence of monster npcs or resources in the wilderness has detered macroer's activity (but i dont think all players would aggree to this countermeasure). --Fatman4ever 05:07, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Water Strike?

I keep seeing something that looks like water strike when I fish. Is it part of a random event or a fun weapon?-- 00:53, 5 January 2008 (UTC) This is part of the big fish random event, right? -- 21:48, 7 January 2008 (UTC) It's from the big fish random :)

Multiple Fish/Spot

On the spots that give multiple fish (i.e. Trout and Salmon, Shrimp and Anchovies, Mackerel and Herring, Tuna and Swordfish, and any others that I've missed out), should an approximate ratio be calculated of the fish? Like, for example, for every 10 Trout caught, on average 4 Salmon are caught. Also, would this ratio improve (more of the fish with better experiance given) as fishing levels increase?

At the moment I'm fly fishing Trout and Salmon, at level 65, so I can provide some data. Anybody else who is willing to help is welcome to. I shall post the results for my first 100 inventory-fulls soon. --Gaz Lloyd 21:39, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

1589 Trout to 1011 Salmon, which is roughly, Trout:Salmon, 3:2 (Levels 63-66) --Gaz Lloyd 21:05, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

I only fly fish occasionally, but I have about 1900 trout to about 2200 salmon from a variety of levels above 70. Troacctid 22:51, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm going for 99 at the moment. 3,153 fish so far. 1,339 salmon. 1,814 trout. so thats means about 42% salmon. i posted this earlier with a smaller number of fish. but the percentage was still the same. so i think this is a reliable number. I am currently level 86 fishing. ~crow4eva~

I've trained Fishing from appr. level 50 to 57 with fly fishing rod in rivers, and have caught a total of 1229 trouts and 843 salmons. That's a 59,3% trouts and 40,7% salmons percent. ~Duke Doodler~

From fishing 85 to 98 (almost 99 :D) I've gotten 105,778 trout and 82202 salmon. Thats 43.73% salmon and 56.27% trout. ~DukeHoracio~

Changes to summoning

Can anybody with 74+ summoning help out with the fish the familiars forage now? The information up now is inaccurate, but I don't want to fix it with incomplete information. I know that at least the crab has changed--now it catches Pike, Cod, Seaweed, and Oysters. Confirmation on the other too would be great. Troacctid 23:34, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Fishing Level =

Will a higher fishing lvl allow a player to fish faster?

Yes it will. Troacctid 09:05, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

The article says that barb fishing sturgeon will not turn a profit. However, Caviar goes for over 500 on the GE and thus a load of caviar could make you more then 12k. There is a deposit box just north of fishing spot and I can see it being profitable. 23:11, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Fish can now be dropped without interupting fishing

The recent update has made it possible to keep fishing after dropping fish. Same sort of deal for Wcing and mining as well. Jagex has confirmed it's not a bug, but it may be reverted. 19:25, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

the minimum requirement is not 53 anymore. it is higher, not sure yet, but most likely 54. and same with cooking. they r both 1 lvl too low, could someone plz edit that info!  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Moggar41 (talk).

The lowest on the highscore list is still 53.

While fishing for salmon and trout in the Shilo Village, an ibis will only produce swordfish, no tuna and when fishing for monkfish the ibis will only produce swordfish.

The bold part seems weird. --Tokkul detail.png Inhaps talk 20:53, September 17, 2009 (UTC)

It is my understanding that an ibis only ever produces swordfish. Robot talkSilver bar.png 21:54, September 17, 2009 (UTC)

Fly fishing rates?

I'm wondering if the chances of salmon are affected by your fishing lvl. I'm going to post a 1000 feather test 63-64 fishing and if somebody could post a lower or higher fishing lvl rate it would be appreaciated.--Moneypony 19:23, November 7, 2009 (UTC)

Used up 1000 feathers at lvl 63-64 fishing and got 403 salmon and 597 trouts.--Moneypony 19:48, November 7, 2009 (UTC)

~crow4eva~

I've caught 7340 fish doing fly fishing at Shilo Village, of which 4190 were trout and 3150 were salmon. My level at this time was ~82-83 _-CahosZeroX-_

Based on these results the percentage is about 40% salmon and 60% trout, the increase/decrease isn't a lot so i would assume it isn't affected by it, thanks for your results.--Moneypony 06:50, December 14, 2009 (UTC)

I'll contribute the set of data that I have calculated. Personally, at level 86 fishing, 42.11% (296) were salmons and 57.89% (407) were trouts. At level 87 fishing, 44.29% (3112) were salmons and 55.71% (3914) were trouts. For level 88 fishing, out of 7637 fishes I caught, 3259 (42.67%) were salmons and 4378 (57.33%) were trouts. At level 89 I went Dungeoneering and could no longer count the number of fishes I caught through experience gain and feathers usage :P  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) on 16:50, November 24, 2013.

Quests that give fishing experience - Conflicting entries

In the Fishing article, it states under the "Quests that give fishing experience" section that the reward from the Legends Quest can be redeemed for Fishing expereince. However, in the Legends Quest article, it states that you can only redeem the experience in for: Attack, Defence, Strength, Hitpoints, Prayer, Magic, Woodcutting, Crafting, Smithing, Herblore, Agility, Thieving expereince - none of which are Fishing. Orange feathers no longer work?

Conflicting statements on harpoons

In one part of the article it says that all three harpoons are the same speed. Yet at the end of the article it says "The stealing creation harpoon is slower than barb-tail harpoon, but gives double the experience. Most players seem to prefer speed over Experience." Which of these conflicting statements are correct? 02:23, March 20, 2010 (UTC)

I was wondering the same thing. I have been posting under the understanding that because the sacred clay haproons' animation takes 50% longer, that this resulted in 50% slower gathering. It wasn't until I saw that bit on this page that stated they gather at the same speed that I found conflicting views. I'd like to hear from whomever made that post and find out what sort of tests they've done to come up with the results that they have. In the mean time, I will remove the conflicting statement. If we do come to the conclusion that they do in fact gather at the same speed, then I suggest we revert some of my conflicting posts on the proto-tool page, Sacred clay harpoon page, and the P2P fishing training page.Quest point cape.pngSk8r dan man Quests 04:07, April 25, 2010 (UTC)

Faster Fishing?

Does fishing go faster when you have your own spot? or does it matter? to me, it seems like when i have my own spot, it goes faster. Magic-icon.png Comicstorm Talk HS Ring of kinship.png 22:55, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

No it has no effect whether shared or not Henneyj 06:41, October 26, 2010 (UTC)
I think it matters. ive noticed that fishing spots heavily fished by players get changed more often and if im the only one on it, i stay there for a while. they are like tree spots.-chadmcbadd
I do notice I fish faster when I'm alone at my fishing spot. That's why I always fish at the quietest locations, and I make sure nobody fishes at my same spot. :p ILYx3 16:16, February 24, 2013 (UTC)

Shrimps Zero Burn

think the level for zero burning of shrimps is 33, not 34, or manybe i was just really lucky.

Making offcuts isn't fastest.

This thread stats in the barbarian fishing section that cutting your fish for bait is the best method.

You actually get much better xp rates by dropping, whether it is after each catch, with mouse keys or just a full inventory by hand.

Am I the only one who thinks that there's really no point in mentioning a bunch of depredicated random events on here? I mean, it's not even as if you can only get them while fishing... maybe Evil Bob can stay since you use fishing, but the rest? 03:59, March 26, 2011 (UTC)
