Effects on Seers' Village, etc.[]

Hey guys, I haven't played in a long while, but I remember cities such as Seers' Village being absolutely destroyed after the introduction of the Grand Exchange.  I don't feel qualified enough to make an edit discussing the effects of the Grand Exchange upon cities like Seers' Village, as I haven't played RuneScape in years, but I feel that this topic is sadly ignored on the Grand Exchange's wiki page.  Some of my fondest memories from RS were in the Seers' Village bank, where I traded with many and met many friends.  Many players that had access to membership, such as myself, got a huge boost at the beginning of our RuneScape experience by negotiating flax trades in the bank.  Such is why I was strongly opposed to the Grand Exchange at its introduction, as I felt that it crushed many merchants' (I made my money mainly through negotiating prices at the bank, transferring goods, etc.) roles in the game.

Sorry for the overbearing rambling, but I'm dissapointed that this issue isn't discussed on this page.  It had such a large effect on the gameplay experience.

Also, it appears that the Seers' Village wiki page, under the bank contents, notes this matter:

http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Seers'_Village#Bank

"The Seers' Village bank used to be a very popular trading spot . . . Trading was drastically reduced after the introduction of the Grand Exchange."

Again, it's been a while since I've played RuneScape, so my experiences with this subject outside of Seers' Village are very cloudy.  I believe that Ardougne was also altered by the Grand Exchange update.

Is Grand Exchange offeres shared between servers?[]

Is the trades made in Grand Exchange shared between servers?

For example: if I make an offer in server 19 (Netherlands) can someone in server 11 (UK) accept the trade?

or is an offer only avalable inside a server?

For example: an offer made in server 19 can NOT be seen in server 11? 37.250.52.84 18:39, September 29, 2013 (UTC)

The Grand Exchange is global across RuneScape. You don't really 'see' the offers of other people; the system automatically matches offers and completes them. Yes, any offer made on world X can be used to complete an offer made on world Y, even across the language-servers' borders. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 18:44, September 29, 2013 (UTC)
Hmm, perhaps the above was a result of hitting the 4 hour limit, where the limit is shared amongst all pieces of a TT outfit set (in the above case, ancient blessed d'hide). Because it was still an instant-buy, just delayed because of the 4 hour limit? IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 05:34, October 12, 2014 (UTC)

Actual Price[]

Today made me wonder how the actual price you buy or sell an item for is determined. Yesterday I put in two different buy offers; one at GE med, the other a bit above med. What I expect to happen would be either:

  • Someone is selling the item I'm trying to buy for a price at or lower than I set, and the item is instantly bought at the seller's price.
  • Nobody is currently selling the item; when someone does, if they ask for a price at or below the price you set, the item is instantly bought at the buyer's price.

In my case, both GE buy offers did not complete immediately, nor for the following hour after which I went offline. When I came back (several hours later), both offers had completed, and the items were bought quite a bit below GE med... This does not match any previously seen behaviour; can anyone clarify the situation? IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 04:36, October 10, 2014 (UTC)

Why does the Wikia have some GE prices outdated?[]

I noticed that some of the calculators still have the GE price outdated (ie Chocolate Dusts are 385 GP but the Wikia still puts it at 391 GP). The last GE update was around 8 hours ago. Sometimes I even see the Wikia outdate the GE prices by more than 2 days. Puretppc (talk) 12:37, October 11, 2014 (UTC)

A bot takes care of updating the wikia prices; they aren't realtime. And sometimes the API used to get the new price seems to fail; or the RuneScape GE website itself isn't being updated. If a large number of items are significantly outdated, you could nudge an administrator to take a peek (or nudge the proper user). IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 12:45, October 11, 2014 (UTC)
Specifically, which template is better to be used for more precise Grand Exchange prices? GEP or Exchange:View Price? Puretppc (talk) 05:00, October 12, 2014 (UTC)
The "View Price" method is deprecated, but only because it is longer wiki code. Both templates (as well as {{GEPrice}}) produce exactly the same result. There is some minor difference between GEP and GEPrice, for using the numbers in expressions, but I keep forgetting which should be used for calculations.
