Still images

If anyone's not too busy, could they take a still image of [[:File:Runescape_monsters_kingblackdragon.gif|this gif]] and add transparency to the picture for use in the article? We should limit the use of animations as much as possible, as we're using still images for comparison of old and new versions. Also, the black dragon gif in the article needs to be replaced too. Guideline

Oh and just a guideline for addition of images:

  1. Adjust the image size to fit its counterpart
  2. Limit the use of animations as much as possible
  3. Images that go under "NPCs#Characters" must be full body images
  4. Images that go under items, must be of the item itself and not an image of a player wielding the particular item (assuming that the item is equipment). Otherwise, this doesn't apply.
  5. Remember to add the {{Historical image template}} to the old version with the reason being: "Graphics for this NPC/Monster/Area/Item has been updated" (this is generalised, not a strict rule)
  6. Ensure that the historical image is no longer in its respective article
  7. Remember to add "|[Monster name] (before)" or "|[Monster name] (after)" to the image links.

New section

Eh... You do remember the old, pointy rocks, which were all one colour, and you do know that rocks now show ores in them as 'lines' (indicating that there is a difference between the ore and the rock)? Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 14:26, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

Animations

I added the dragon longsword special to the items page, I am not sure if it worked though. Both the images have gone weird, and I am not sure if they have a place on the page. Also, should the two other images on the abby whip page of it being wielded and the special attack be added?? I felt it is better ask the community rather then be bold since I am not sure myself. I didn't think that we should have animations as if we included too many of them, the page would be extremely laggy, not to mention the fact that the images of items themselves are more than sufficient. Just my opinion, of course. C.ChiamTalk 06:25, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

Double old versions

For the Ket-Zek, after finding the original images from the revisions of the page, I found out that the Ket-Zek had actually undergone two graphical updates to its current form, see File:Runescape monsters ketzek-2.gif and [[:File:Ket-zek.png]]. I'm not exactly sure what action I should take. Should I use the oldest version or somehow include both? Hopefully, the discussion that results from this can serve as a guideline for future cases. Actually both were from the same graphical era. The orange KetZek came out last to warn the player that Jad was next. Still this is a legitimate question to ask because there are some things which have been updated more than once, such as the three abyssal whip models.
Also dragons are due for another graphical update to make them look like the Dragon from the tutorial. I think perhaps stacking the update comparisons two or three across is a bad idea. The reason I ask is because my idea to handle the problem is to create a set of mini-tables for each individual entry which are themselves arranged into a row using a normal format, like

|mini-table 3

|mini-table 5 (this one is wider so there's no room for table 6 on this row)
|}

{|mini-table 6
And so on. Since each row of mini-tables is independent, each row can have a different amount of columns, and thus can handle instances where there are 3 or more updates to show. Since each of these mini-tables are independent hwoever, we need to have a concrete pixel height for each one, so they line up properly, or else they'll all be whatever height is necessary for the images, which will look chaotic. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar 03:28, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

Better layout?

Instead of using multiple columns and nested tables, it is more easier if we used arrows to show the improvements.

Calebchiam had suggested using templates, so I created a template for the arrow but not for the wikitable itself. Each item/NPC/monster is now contained in a single cell/column, as opposed to 2-3 columns as proposed earlier. The "Before" and "After" sub-headers have also been removed, as they were use repetitively, and were not really beneficial, IMO.

The default arrow size is 350% and the default color is red, but this can changed if required. Simply change the defaults at the template, or use {{right|color=<colour>|size=<size>}}. See the documentation and examples at Template:Right.

Pay dirt!

After losing it for nearly 2 years I finally found my old flash drive with a treasure trove of screenshots of RuneScape back before the HD updates! I looked through them (there are a LOT!) and finally found a suitable old black dragon image to replace the animation. Monsters

You shouldn't, as Jagex might always surprise us and change it, thus making this image out-of-date, which cannot be edited very quick. The current eight are also better because it shows not only the skill icons themselves, but also the old button sections and things like total level location. Incorrect photographs

In the case of the mill lane mill and the rune essence, instead of going from old to new, it goes from new to a blurry version of the new one (explanation?). In the case of Fairy Nuff's grotto, it goes from old to old and blurry (fairy nuff's grotto itself doesn't exist anymore (she now has a house and the indention in the Zanaris wall is now gone), so that one might be needing deletion). I agree with you on the Rune essence image, but not for the windmill and grotto though. The Rune essence image merely shows a change in textures, there hasn't actually been a significant graphical change. For the Windmill and grotto however, it is actually a glitch with the Wikia cache. If you check File:Fairy Nuff's grotto1.png, you will see the updated image, it's just a technical glitch that causes us to see an old (and stretched) version. C.ChiamTalk 13:27, June 17, 2010 (UTC)

"Old" images

Why do we upload old versions of images when we can just use external links to accomplish the same thing? For instance, this is the same image as this, but it's an old revision of the current page, which serves the same purpose, and would stop somewhat useless images from being uploaded. Discussion about splitting page

I think this page should be split in multiple pages: 1 page for each part of the page. It is also said on top of the page it may cause lag, especially when also running Runescape and/or other programs. the easiest solution is splitting in multiple pages. Comment - The page DOES lag quite a lot for me, even with a quick browser like Chrome(and i don't have a slow computer)(and if it lags at a quick browser and a medium speed computer, how much does it at a slow browser and computer?), so can please the template be re-added and the discussion be re-opened? Another thing, the page keeps growing, and so more lag. At which point will it be splitted? It is 65.518 bytes already, while around 32.000 bytes it should be split(or something). banker detailed ingame heads

Please don't remove the detailed ingame heads of the bankers compared with the voids, as the update will come very soon(bout this month) and the dragons were compared too when they came out in Daemonheim, but officially were the old graphics. I was thinking of a new subpage; .....Improvements/Faces, regarding the latest facial updates. I already put Faruq at NPCs but it was removed, so shouldn't it have its own subpage? Wrap subpages

For to be viewable in a fixed width. The current setup causes stretching of small screens and inhibits ability to view some images with conflicting elements (see this FAQ). I know this will make the page longer to scroll, but it must be done. Ryan PM 20:18, September 6, 2010 (UTC)

Subcategories and alphabeticalising

I fought I would ask befor I did this but I think it would be a good Idea to split the pages into Subcategories like the NPC page because some pages are getting large e.g Graphical updates/Item can be split into Weapons, Armour and Misc. Graphical updates/NPCs could be split a bit more to include ogres, TzHaar e.c.t, Graphical updates/Chatheads could be split like the NPC page, Graphical updates/Monsters could be split to human, drawf, troll, monster (Which would be the misc section), Locations and scenery could be split to Locations and scenery, Graphical updates/Interfaces can't really be split unless someone has an idea, Graphical updates/Animations is allready split on the page but seperate pages might help it running e.g. Emotes, Skills, Combat and misc. Finally Graphical updates/Inventory could be split to weapons, armour and misc. but they are small images so it might not be need.

The pages could (Should) also be aplphabeticalised.


All of this should hopefully make the pages run and load smoother whilst making it easy to find what you want if your searching for a specific thing[s].

Well, I'm kind of the custodian of graphical updates, so I'll respond. :P I would very much desire for GU/Monsters to be split according to race (I was thinking like Humans, Demons, Dragons, TzHaar, Slayer Monsters, Other for example) and have the new layout as seen on GU/NPCs/... If you would do that, I'd be eternally grateful. GU/Items is getting laggy too, so I think splitting it into Weapons, Armour and Other will suffice. As for GU/NPCs, I didn't think it was necessary to make a subpage for ogres because we have very few images. However, I have lots of ogre images from rs2007 on my computer now, so it might be wise to do so anyway. As for Chatheads, I think the page is fine as it is because chatheads are small things - same for inventory. I'd like to convert the entire Locations and scenery page to the new format (as seen at the bottom of the page) first then maybe split in Cities, Dungeons, Scenery, Other. Interfaces doesn't really have enough entries to be split, I think. And yes, I think EVERY GU page should be alphabeticised (as seen here) - if you're willing to help with that, that would be awesome.
