Hand cannon Aimed Shot Greatly improves the chance of hitting an opponent. This requires longer to aim and there is a greater chance that the hand cannon will explode and be destroyed.

Has anybody attempted to find out how much your Firemaking level affects the explosion rate. Just a small tip for anybody that wants to start out experimenting, the explosion rate has to be spread across 39 levels. Sounds pretty random. I think its almost impossible to find out the explosion rates :S Thanks for trying aswell, Ill get fm 80 :)
I have 99 Firemaking and i have been using the Hand Cannon ever since it came out. In total, I have used over 30,000 hand cannon shots and it hasn't exploaded yet. About half of those shots being Increased Aim(The Special attack)
I have had about 500 shots at 71 firemaking without an explosion. My friend has 80 firemaking and his first cannon exploded between 1k and 2k shots. They might have decreased the explosion rate of hand cannons in a recent patch, because it looks like it used to explode a lot more. That or we're just lucky. EDIT: I guess I was just lucky. That first cannon lasted to 700 shots and the second cannon exploded on it's first shot. Getting Firemaking into the 90s soon. 184.108.40.206 15:49, November 11, 2009 (UTC)

Well. I just got the cannon and at 61 firemaking ( the lowest you can have ) I used two cannons.
The first cannon exploded at 52 shots, and the second one at 85 shots. The first one was during the special attack, and the second one was just a normal explosion. It seems using the hand cannon at 61 firemaking is a terrible idea.

the max hit documented isn't 67, as the article stated, it's 56, with 99 range, Void Knight armour and Ranging potion. It's unaffected by Salve, Slayer Helm, and Void cannot be used in castle wars, therefore the 67 is unlikely. i have done calculations and i believe the max hit to be 60. unless if have made a mistake somewhere. anyway. whatever the godsword can hit without spec the cannon should be able hit a tiny bit higher. due to the range strength
Well I'm 99 ranged with void, and have fired well over 4,000 shots, and time and time again the max is only 56, I've also checked a few range max hit calculators that include ranged strength, and it comes out as 56. 18.104.22.168 20:22, November 8, 2009 (UTC)
The reason you can hit higher with Godsword is because not only can you get armor that gives str bonus (no ranged armor gives ranged str bonus), but piety gives a better strengh bonus than eagle eye and super attack pots give better strength than range pots give range. I don't know if anyone has made a video with 99 range, void, eagle eye, and the new extreme ranging potion. That would be TRUELY show the max hit. 22.214.171.124 14:27, November 10, 2009 (UTC)
Max hit if a Hand Cannon on rapid style at 122 range + void + rigour is 623. The reason I know it was max is because I hit an orange hitsplat. I'm sure I was 122 range cause I checked right after the hit. Consider accurate style to hit a bit higher.

Im sorry, but it is so easy to hit more than 56 with a godsword, yet the article states it can only hit 3-4 less than 56... needs fixing

Godsword hits with 99 strength and a godsword with maxed strength gear. I think would hit around 75's
I'm sure it can hit over 56 now, has anyone tried it with extreme ranging potions, salve amulet or anything like that? I've seen a 56 in PvP (no castlewar's bracelet or anything like that) so it can surely hit higher.
Yeah it can, I've hit a 470 with no pots, void armour and leech ranged (+10%) on rapid meaning that the max hit calculators are if anything a bit low (say a theoretical max of 466) so with Rigour, void knight armour, an extreme ranged pot, the max should be about 630 roughly on accurate, based on the slightly low estimate of 600 with the only change being eagle eye instead of rigour.

the new dungeneering prayer increases damage and accuracy by 25%, rigour can really help to hit higher, ive hit 51 with 92 ranged, void and ranged pot and eagle eye.
i belive that void ranged + ranged cape + rigour + ranged cape + 99 ranged can hit 61s
I beleive your an idiot, ranging cape only increases your range level by 1 and it doesn't stack with other boosts, making it useless since a ranging or extreme ranging potion has a much better effect.
The 821 could have been on a slayer task with focus sight?
I have hit 570s with hand cannon in void with regular range pot and rigour.
no cause void gives a larger boost than focus sight.. focus sight is only 15% boost
^and void is only 10%.
^Void is 20%. It's stated as 10%, but I can definitely hit higher with void than with a focus sight.

I didn't see mention in the Ava's article either but didn't look at that one closely. Friend said it doesn't save ammo but not going to update article on his second-hand info. Much thanks! - None of the Ava's devices will save you ammo for the Hand cannon. The effect you/your friend might be noticing is that using abilities does not use ammo altogether. The best Ava'd device has better range critical bonus than a skill cape, so it may still be preferrable. IP220.127.116.11 (talk) 06:46, November 22, 2013 (UTC)
Explosion After EoC
I am pretty sure about that, the cannon has 0 chance to blow up. i have been using my cannon for like 2 months now in various slayer tasks, and even at the tormented demons, where i use momentum, so it uses auto attacks. Still nothing happened, i am at 80 fm right now. I Must have fired about 4k shots just with momentum only.
