Like it says on the KDB an iron bar has EXACTLY 50% chance of being smelted into a bar, that DOES NOTmean that if you smelt 20 iron ore that exactly 10 bars will be made... flip a coin 20 times and THATS how many bars you get if bars=heads and not refined=tails.--Alex 13:30, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Do I successfully smelt iron ore into bars more often as my level goes up?
No, it is a 50% chance all the way. There are only two things that can affect this: the ring of forging, and using the Superheat Item spell. http://www.runescape.com/kbase/guid/smithing_faq
Why does it say that the chance becomes 80% when you're 45 Smithing?
It used to be 50% all the way. But there was an update a few months ago that made it so that higher level smiths get a better smelt percentage, up to the maximum of 80% at lvl 45. Check that FAQ again. Also note that the lvl 4 explorer's ring gives free superheats daily, so that can be a useful tool. Jimwormmaster 21:43, March 28, 2011 (UTC)
