This talk page is for discussing the Ironman Mode page.

There are some players like me who are strictly against hardcore ironman mode, due to only one life and losing the account upon dying. Should any player try out hardcore and accidently kill themselves or purposely, they would immedietely rage on losing their gaming life on RuneScape and be forced to start all over for maxed players. I would like that someone mention my complaint on the forums to tell the developers of Ironman mode what would happen if a maxed player tried the hardcore mode and died on purpose and then lose the account completely and their whole gaming life they spent most of their time in reality.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk).

ironman and hardcore ironman will be options that can only be turned on during account creation. Anybody who wants to play ironman will have to start a new account to do so is my understanding, hope this alliviates your fears :) Zaros symbol KDanger Talk 13:37, September 13, 2014 (UTC)

From a forum post by Mod Pips here:
"The first option for continuing after death is to unlock the ability to automatically convert your account to regular Ironman if you die. You can buy a Jar of Divine Light from Mr Ex for 100k gp which will mean the gods will see you again upon death, and allow you to return to life as a normal ironman. This is an unlock rather than a physical item (like the scroll of life from Dungeoneering). This will cost GP so players will face a tactical choice in whether they dedicate precious money towards this safety net.
The second safety net is to play long enough to earn an extra life. If you’ve reached total level 1000 and can afford 100k gp you can buy a Divine Coin from Mr Ex, which when offered upon death will return you to life just once. You can buy another at total level 1600 for 10m gp. This means there is a maximum of 2 extra lives and no further. " Dragon dagger AmoVos 15:12, September 13, 2014 (UTC)
It wonder if consuming a sign of life will count as a death. If it doesn't, having a sign equipped and a teleport handy at all (potentially risky) times seems like the way to go. Grasle (talk) 06:26, September 16, 2014 (UTC)
I doubt it; death is death. If you narrowly escape it, you escape it. Besides, the players have to make their own signs of life to use that strategy... Which means they'll need to get a diamond (ring) for every sign of life; and they're not really that common. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 06:56, September 16, 2014 (UTC)
Jar of Divine Light does sit in your inventory or bank, unlike the Divine Coin you can buy at skill 1000 O3 Depleter (talk) 08:23, November 11, 2014 (UTC)

New Account?

lets say i wanted to create an ironman account, but i wanted to keep my existing account. Would i have to make a new account, and pay for membership again, or would i be able to mooch off of my existing membership like in Runescape Classic?

Even though this is verifiable, I don't see any value in it. We've never been about tracking random achievements. MolMan 20:34, October 13, 2014 (UTC)

Do gravestones exist for regular Ironman? Do they work the same as in regular mode?

Article says if you die in Hardcore you lose all but 3 items. Is that items worn/inv or all items including bank? Needs to be clarified. Mamabear47 (talk) 01:34, October 20, 2014 (UTC)

..toggle off at any time...

Can you downgrade account at any time for free? Or only with Jar of Light? If actually at any time, then how? Needs details. Mamabear47 (talk) 01:36, October 20, 2014 (UTC)

You can downgrade your account, but it takes 100k to downgrade from HC to regular ironman, and another 100k to quit ironman entirely Jimfromtx (talk) 02:40, October 22, 2014 (UTC)

First 99's

I think it would be an interesting idea to note who first reached 99 in each skill in HC, as it does broadcast it to all servers.  So far, I know of StuckInADaze, 99 runecrafting.  Not sure if Iron Dylan x or cows R us was first to 99 dungeoneering.  Printmachien, Iron Crab, and Too Spooked for 99 thieving.  Potentially forum trawling would dig up exactly who was first.  Though then the question is, do we do separate for HC and non-HC, as the site does, or merge them? Jimfromtx (talk) 02:48, October 22, 2014 (UTC)

Update, DIY Oddish is the first HC Ironman to skill total 1500.  Jimfromtx (talk) 01:54, October 23, 2014 (UTC)

We've been keeping track of the 99 milestones on Skill Mastery. It's better to keep this page just about ironman, and have achievements listed on the other page. MolMan 01:55, October 23, 2014 (UTC) 09:57, January 7, 2015 (UTC)cows r us is me and i was the 1st by miles b4 he even was in the 90's

What about ironman specific achievements, such as Totem Pole Position? I don't see them mentioned anywhere in this wikia. — S a l (talk) 03:11, October 24, 2014 (UTC)

That's as in task sets? I've seen a couple edits by people fixing tasks pages, and you're free to add any that you find to be missing. MolMan 03:14, October 24, 2014 (UTC)

Clean up

I believe this article is a bit cluttered. For instance, I think Hardcore Ironman should be discussed in a seperate section than the standard Ironman account. Thoughts? MR PR1NCE I (talk) 16:25, December 13, 2014 (UTC)

Ironman Vorago/ROTS

Access to Vorago/ROTS. Is it clarifed that Ironman cannot access Vorago/ROTS or would it just be extememly difficult to actually receive a drop. Because after playing ironman myself, I am of the opinion that we would be able to get into the fights.. Also the fact that i've seen an Ironman with a ROTS shield makes me wonder. Shadowz  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) on 23:19, March 1, 2015 (UTC).

Added category- benefits to ironman?

I have recently returned to Runescape. Ironman is new to me. I saw a list of "cons" so to speak of using ironman, but what are the benefits? 18:39, June 24, 2015 (UTC)

Bragging rights, a personal challenge. That's about it; it has no actual advantages over/differences compared to normal players, just restrictions. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 03:25, June 25, 2015 (UTC)

"Interesting" deaths

--Jlun2 (talk) 17:30, September 16, 2015 (UTC)

Can't exactly "fight" these, but still counts as combat if died --Jlun2 (talk) 17:12, June 25, 2016 (UTC)

"As expected most of those kills were in the wilderness (451, excluding dungeons). Second most danger place for pvp is Feldip with 169 kills. How this is possible I don't know, I can't think of a single pvp place that would be part of Feldip."

It's technically not an "unique" death, but it's interesting considering somehow, a safe area has 169 kills due to PvP. Wtf? --Jlun2 (talk) 14:58, March 23, 2017 (UTC)

I added a bunch of the people who apparently died in feldip, 2 of them were online and i asked where they died Based on their answer it looks to be a glitch in the system -Edwinmen 10:46, March 30, 2017 (UTC) Death by bees Pikachu lv95 (talk) 23:15, July 11, 2017 (UTC)

Iron "Veterans"

The "Trivia" section currently (24 Sept 2015) includes the following statement:

  • Both types of Ironman accounts can receive a Veteran Cape, provided the account was created at least five years ago. This is only possible if the player never completed the character creation process.

This makes no logical sense whatsoever. Please elaborate on whatever bug might possibly allow an Ironman account to obtain a Veteran's cape at this point in time, or else remove this bullet point from the "Trivia" section.

Also - how on Earth could somebody "not complete the character creation process?!"

Is this meant to refer specifically to accounts created more than five years ago whose creators never bothered to actually log into the game? That would, I suppose, give them the ability to choose the account type prior to completing the tutorial (regardless of whether their account was located on Tutorial Island or whatever iteration thereof following its discontinuation) but honestly, exactly how common is that?

I'd personally love to see an Ironman with a Veteran's Cape, if for no other reason than the sheer novelty of it. ;)

NullCoding (talk) 20:55, September 24, 2015 (UTC)

Account creation is based on when your account name was registered. It's possible for you to have gone through the name registration, but never actually entered the game with that name. Thus, you could complete that process today by logging in with a 5 year old account and creating it as an ironman. MolMan 21:04, September 24, 2015 (UTC)

No instance discount?

I'm not seeing the 50% discount for boss instances. Dagannoth kings still cost 150k each time for my ironman account. What's happening?

Ironman Guide?

Icon on death

I removed the "If the death is permanent, a red skull is displayed next to the name. If the player is converted to a regular ironman, then a white skull is displayed." line from this page as it is disputed. If the conditions on which the various icons are displayed are actually known, please add it with a citation linking to an official source, otherwise keep this info off the page xHR7zpA.png6encXAo.png 17:50, November 26, 2017 (UTC)

HCIM Safe deaths: Goshima, Children of Mah?

I can't verify these myself, but if someone else can and add them to the list that'd be great. -Dying to the malignant entity on Goshima is supposedly a safe death. -Dying during the 'lava surfing' portions of Children of Mah is also supposedly a safe death. 04:21, May 14, 2018 (UTC)
