"difficult to defeat for meleers"[]
While doing cleanup I wikified this line, but in my experience the shades are reasonably easy to defeat using any combat style. I left it for someone else to change if they feel the same. Damnads 06:22, April 15, 2010 (UTC)
Being A meleer, I find these are the hardest monsters in the dungeon (not counting bosses) as with two different styles of attack its hard to pray against, and they deal good damage, yet still have good defence. I personally think that this should be kept. Now that I know its magical ranged, it might be slightly easier however. Thunder9092 03:30, April 17, 2010 (UTC)
- As a meleer, I have no problem with these creatures. While they do considerable damage, at times, I can usually bring them down with 3-4 hits. --

Strategy for melee[]
If below level 100, flash soul split while attacking it. It'll die without you needing to eat any food.
If above level 100, remove all your melee armour, activate range protect and attack it with food ready. Somehow while both the ranged and magic attacks are magic-based, the ranged attack hits more often through magical defense.
A high magic level raises your resistance against these so I'd recommend having as high magic as you can without raising your cb with it if you're melee based.
