Having tried out making a log of kills (21 specs on ghosts), I suspect that the special attack (Reap) doesn't work on ghosts (level 19 outside clan wars at least), and I guess possibly by extension other undead creatures, although these need confirmation first. When spec-ing a ghost, it doesn't make the animation that the .gif on the main page shows, it just resembles a regular atatck but still drains the bar.Ganon81 22:51, January 20, 2010 (UTC)

I think it works on wall beasts. It's not a "special" monster. You probably considered it special because you need slayer/spiny helm to fight it without eating too much food. Could anyone confirm this?Moneypony 05:17, January 22, 2010 (UTC)

Doing some quick math, it doesn't seem worth the special effect as compared to using just a elemental staff. my calculations seemed to show that you will only save somewhere around 50 gp using ice barrage, as compared to the 200 you will save using a water staff. Since my calculations weren't perfect, can someone confirm or reject this? Thunder9092 16:27, January 25, 2010 (UTC)

A little trivia - the original release of this weapon was not a trident as it only appeared had two tines in the invent/website images (tridents have 3, the clue is in the name)...I thought it looked like a pitchfork with straight tines (haha...penance pitchfork...doesn't have the same ring!). Seems Jagex might have noticed this little foible and changed the model with this weeks update though195.137.81.78 00:29, February 2, 2010 (UTC)

: The second special attack is simply the one used on players, which reduces their current hp by 1/3rd.76.188.36.128 02:57, November 11, 2010 (UTC)

This talk page is for discussing the Penance trident page.

Untitled

Jagex didn't add on the homepage the special attack that the weapon comes with. If you look through the Knowledge Base and look at special attacks, you can see the trident added to the bottom. Added this to the article.

Penance Trident "Reap" -

A chance of instantly killing an enemy with a Combat Level less than 50 (not including players, bosses, summoning familiars, or creatures that must be killed in a specific way). In PvP, 'Reap' has the same chance of removing a third of the opponent's current hitpoints.

I don't think Jagex would put references to that kind of things in the game... anyways does anyone know what the exact chance is of reap activating? I can't test it out as I don't have enough points to buy one. I think it'll be more than the 1 in 60 chance of the special runes saving ability.--Runerune239 19:08, January 19, 2010 (UTC)
I wouldn't know since I'll never play Barbarian Assault long enough to get it. I just hope the special attack's animation isn't recycled from the 'Reap' attack style animation of the Scythe... If it is... *facepalm* *headdesk*

this wep is going to be godlike in pest control

Having tried out making a log of kills (21 specs on ghosts), I suspect that the special attack (Reap) doesn't work on ghosts (level 19 outside clan wars at least), and I guess possibly by extension other undead creatures, although these need confirmation first. When spec-ing a ghost, it doesn't make the animation that the .gif on the main page shows, it just resembles a regular atatck but still drains the bar.Ganon81 22:51, January 20, 2010 (UTC)

Special Attack Drain?

Does anyone know how much it drains? Its a Pwner 22:14, January 19, 2010 (UTC)

It drains 50% of the special bar. I don't think the pest control portals would be affected, as it doesn't work against bosses per the manual's description. Oodi 22:33, January 19, 2010 (UTC)

Chance?

What happens when the special attack fails?  Tien  23:02, January 19, 2010 (UTC)

XP?

Does the special attack give XP? If yes then what XP and how much? --Drizzt1112 23:29, January 19, 2010 (UTC)

A failed special attack is just a normal weapon attack that can still hit damage; it gives a normal amount of experience based on a monster's hitpoints.Oodi 01:43, January 20, 2010 (UTC)

Animation

I'm sorry if it's causing a lot of trouble. As the animation can't be immediately viewed in the thumbnailed state, I am just wondering if there is anything I can do to make the animation acceptable as a full sized insert. Oodi 01:57, January 20, 2010 (UTC)

New max hit?

Is 100 the highest hp for a monster that is affected by this? If it is a bit higher it could possibly be the newest max hit.

If there's a monster with more than 100 hp that's under than or equal to level 50 combat, then that would be the case. Oodi 02:29, January 20, 2010 (UTC)
