Clean up page![]

This page is a nightmare. It NEEDS to be cleaned up. Especially the introduction; it's more than just a short summary of what a quest is. Much more. The table of contents only refers to half the content, due to the massive amount of useless trivia in the introduction. Penguin maskChewy (Talk) 07:30, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Revising[]

I am revising the F2P quests. Just to let everyone know. --Richard1990 20:14, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

All the F2P quest walkthroughs are complete! The member ones are the only ones that remain. However, I am not a member. I was, but not now. So, I can't really help with the member quests, and they're not one of my priorities, so I won't be working on them. But anyway, the F2P quests are done! Woot! --Richard1990 02:19, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Difficulty[]

Perhaps it would be good to show the difficulty of the quests next to their names - it would be good for new players, who like simple things, or high-levels who seek a challenge.-- —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.207.35.194 (talk).

The page would be too crowded and it wouldn't look nice. When you click on the quest it tells the difficulty anyway.--Richard 20:26, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
0mf9z0r! I agree? Please put...:)

too crowded? how does one word (easy, hard, medium, etc) make it too crowded? Qazwiz 15:43, April 23, 2010 (UTC)

Bullets or numbers?[]

Should the quests be bulleted or numbered? I say bulleted, because they are in alpabetical order, not ordered by release, so the numbers don't mean anything. -- Couchpotato99 (talk) (contribs) 21:20, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

I changed them to numbers to make it easier to keep track of the count. Found one missing - Devious Minds - which was not noted before. But it would be OK with me to change them back now that the count is correct and people will keep track of new ones being added. Chrislee33 22:47, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
Alrighty. Nice job on finding a missing quest! -- Couchpotato99 (talk) (contribs) 23:17, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Eagle's Peak[]

I'd like to suggest that we remove the links to the Eagle's Peak quest (and the article itself) until the quest is released, because theres not a lot of point to having it there at the moment. --Raven110283 15:51, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Wait, forget about that, it's been released. I've simply removed the sentance regarding its release in late November. --Raven110283 12:09, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Please[]

Please do not make quest guides without at least part of a walkthrough. It's practically useless. I have started all of the quests not yet started here. Sysop crown Megalodon99 (Talk) score 15:46, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Why not? Dtm142 21:16, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Because it's about as useful to people as a car with no engine. Marcus Gord 21:26, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
That may be so, but it's also easier for a mechanic to find a car without an engine if they don't have to go hunt it down. Creating an article from here encourages people to edit it (for example annonymous editors looking for a different quest guide). I encourage you to look at Forum:Really nice sandcastles. Dtm142 21:43, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm with Dtm on this one. A stub, assuming it actually has some information in it, is better than no article at all. JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 07:45, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
As an experiment i have created two quest guides in User:Megalodon99's sandbox. It involved more work for me as an editor and it kept the page hidden for the few days that i worked on it. The red links in the quests page and the search queries also are not very helpful. Creating the basic quest page seems useful. Put it in a separate Namespace or something to make clear that there is no guide. A quest outline also makes it easier for later editors and increases the similarity of the quest walkthroughs. I also dont know what the criteria are for the zero to hundred percentage rating of a quest walkthrough --Miw 10:28, 15 January 2007 (UTC).
We don't need a separate namespace for guides that do not exist. Instead, it should be indicated on the guide itself with the {{stub}} and {{Under Construction}} templates, with a category added to the guide that's under construction or a stub. It should also be indicated on the quest list with the [[File:100%.svg]] completion boxes. Reguardless, unfinished guides should still be linked to from here. See Forum:Really nice sandcastles for my thoughts on the criteria for guide completion. Dtm142 23:14, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

A proud day for the RuneScape Wiki![]

As of today, we are now done all of our quest guides! Good work everyone! Dtm142 23:32, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

They're complete as far as we have articles and walkthroughs for all of them...but many have the 75% picture, which, as I recall, means we're missing some details, which can make the walkthrough confusing. I know I've used several walkthroughs on RuneHQ that were missing details and on several occasions I was misled and wasted several minutes wondering where the hell I'd gone wrong...took me about a half hour to find the rock at the end of Grand Tree lol. Nice to have a reasonable description of the quests in the wiki. Quest walkthrough always stays tricky. Any ideas on how to further boost the quality of the quest descriptions? --Miw 10:25, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Bullets?[]

Half of the quest guides have bullets in the walkthrough, the other half don't. Which one should we use? Tesfan 01:38, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Bullets are OK I guess.--Richard (Talk - Contribs) 01:40, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
That depends on the guide and the situation. I didn't use bullets on most of my guides, but I don't have a problem with people using them. Dtm142 02:51, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
I find bullets easier to follow, but this may be because you can leave it, and scan bullets to find where you left it to pick it back up again. Yleron - (Talk)(Contribs) 18:00, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion[]

Can someone please list on each skill page;

  • The quests that add experience to the skill and how much
  • The total amount of experience for this skill that members and nonmembers can get from doing all the quests

Jagexowner 13:05, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

I just made a page (and linked to the bottom of the quest page) that has a list of all the skills and the xp recieved for each of the quests out there. However, putting a combined total would be dificult as many of the possible rewards for experience are from things like lamps, which may allow you to choose where you put your experience, and so doesn't have a set skill it's guaranteed to go to. I guess we could put something like Agility: Total possible: 20,000 (45,000) or something like that, but it may be confusing. Woodcutting TIRRIANGANT (TALK) 17:27, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

100th quest is......[]

it says the 100th quest is cold war en then says the 100th quest is recipe for disaster

Actually the article says that Cold War is the 100th member's quest, and RfD is just the 100th quest. Dragon medium helm! Whaddaya know?Chiafriend12Better than rune!I have 12 friends. 06:29, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Quest page restructuring discussion[]

The quest page acts as an easy reference to the individual quest guides. The page does contain a lot of information but does not do a stellar job of making it easily accessible. I'd like to make some changes, but before making edits would like some discussion on it. Suggestions for the page:

  • have links to all main sections on the page
  • move skill requirements to a section below the quest links
  • include quest trivia section at the end of the page
  • introduction should describe the key elements on the page and could keep the last quest news entry.
  • consider using a table for quests
  • consider using a template to generate table content
  • each quest entry contains:
    • link to quest guide (exists)
    • skill requirements (use skill icon and number for this)
    • list of before quests (existing) with links to guides for those quest (new)
    • quest difficulty (sortable)
    • quest length (sortable)
    • quest guide quality (sortable)

The main challenge then becomes one of presenting this information in the most compact form and make it more useable. --Miw 10:40, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Example of a possible table entry:

Quest Name QA Rating Length Skill Levels Quest Requirements
Back to my Roots [[File:75%.svg]] 4***** Medium Agility55 Farming53
Slayer59 Woodcutting72
A Fairy Tale Part II
Hand in the Sand
One Small Favour
Tribal Totem

The rows can be made sortable like in the Magic page. --Miw 11:10, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

I think it's a good idea. A table is definitely needed. Amaurice talk 11:15, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
You know for the spell lists they have dinky smaller versions of the rune images? Could you do that for this? (I don't know how they did it.) JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 12:22, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
The smaller rune images on the spell lists was just done by scaling down the images on the fly by specifying |20px, but when I tried this on the skill images, they don't scale so well. For these, might need to upload smaller image versions that have been scaled by a better tool (rather than getting mediawiki to do it on the fly). It would be possible to modify the Template:Skill clickpic used in this example to take an extra parameter to use reduced size images. Amaurice talk 13:51, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
I think that it looks really good, I can't wait to see it, I would try to help out with making the new images and tables but I'm busy with midterms at university right now(the fun never stops) Redekopmark 16:18, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
Hello everybody, I have used the free-to-play quests as an example, please better it and expand the pattern down to the member quests. XDRAGONAITE +Saradomin's Book of Wisdom 10:35, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm... easier way[]

It should be which are the recomended quests to do for newbies, or for non-members, who wanna do an easy quest with any requieriment or with poors requieriments  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jocaypa (talk).

Maps and/or Screenshots?[]

Can/will maps and/or screenshots of each part of the quest or its location be added? This would really help a visual person or someone who wants to actually physically see if he/she is in the right place. On the other hand, I'm not sure if screenshots or parts of maps are copyrighted... --Shruti14 t c 18:27, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Quest Point requirement for cape[]

I noticed the guide lists all requirements for the Questpoint Cape, cumulative over all quests. I think it's silly to list the requirement of 175 quest points from Recipe For Disaster when you have to get all of them for the cape. Gerbeezooe 01:58, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Actually it only lists the max requirements to do every quest. Not to get the Cape.Dark shark31 13:16, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Quest guide completedness[]

All but one of the guides are listed as "guide is complete and comprehensive", rather than "guide is complete but lacks details". I've been doing more quests than usual recently, so I've been reading the guides. Out of all that I read, they all lacked details, important ones especially. For all of them, I had to go to RuneHQ. There are probably a lot more guides listed as not lacking details, when they lack many details. Dragon medium helm! Whaddaya know?Chiafriend12Better than rune!I have 12 friends. 04:52, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

I found that you actually need 78 slayer to do every quest because of furnseek to completed 2nd part of quest

No, you do not. The second wishlist does not give a quest point upon completion and hence is a) classed as a miniquest, like the ghostly robes miniquest, and b) does not need to be completed to wear the quest point cape. Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 21:28, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

Too long to download[]

The page is too 'hard' on the internet - its simply too big!!!! I suggest doing what Jagex did - split all quests into two lists - A-M and N-Z. So, this page would contain the first couple of articles, and then links to the two lists. Doucher4000 21:50, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Reddo 19:05, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, interesting. Don't know if future quests deserve a mention here or not. Maybe it could be added as a note to the Thieving article? PietyAquilaePiety 19:38, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Kind of speculative to list it here, though I guess it could be mentioned as a glitch in the thieving article as suggested above. Skill 23:02, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Learning the Ropes[]

Since Learning the Ropes is located in a separate section in the RS quest journal, should it have its own section here as well? Plus, even though free players can do the quest, should we really consider it the first free quest since Rune Mysteries? After all, it is more of a tutorial than a quest, even though you do get a quest point. Rune Mysteries should still get a mention as the last F2P quest proper. Elkayen 15:00, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Also, I don't think Jagex class it as a proper quest, since the quest help says "X/142 quests complete". If Learning the Ropes was included, there would be 143.Storm Chip 09:57, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Number of Quests[]

Currently this article states that there are 143 quests. However, if you look in the QuestHelp, it says "X/142 quests complete", and I don't think they include Learning the Ropes as a proper quest. Should it be changed on here? Storm Chip 10:02, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Dream Mentor[]

Dream mentor does not require 85 attack i did it with 80 i dont even believe there is any attack level requirement for it at all

I believe you are mistaking the crossed swords CombatSwords with the Attack-icon attack sword. The crossed swords indicate that you need a combat level of 85, not an attack level of 85. Dtm142 00:43, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Items Needed[]

I've noticed that a lot of the quests (notably Eagle's Peak and Dwarf Cannon) have teleport runes listed in the Items Needed section. The quests don't require teleportation, teleporting is convienient sure, but not required. I think someone should remove those, or maybe add an "Items Recommended" section or something. -- Xell Khaar 02:21, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

difficulty colors[]

with the release of the next quest this month we will need a new color of grand master difficulty, I think that we should use blue and then re-order them like this

Jagex Classification
blue dot Novice
Novice Intermediate
Intermediate Experienced
Experienced Master
Master Grand Master
Maybe a black dot for the grandmaster quests? Buzz (Talk#P ) 17:58, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Quest Requirements[]

I noticed that the minimum attack and strength requirements were listed as 40 and 60 respectively, but While Guthix Sleeps requires access to the warriors' guild, which requires a minimum attack and strength sum to 130. Quest list[]

The section that shows the list of quests is too long. I recommend creating a new page with the name List of quests, then put a link to the list in this page. I guess this should make the page run properly. Yuri200013 01:14, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

names of quests[]

There should come a standard to how to name quests which name start with an article ("a" or "the"). Now we have "The Feud" and "Fremennik Trails, the".
And there is that on different pages the "Fairytale part I/II" quests have different names, some with "a", others with the extra name "Growing Pains"/"Cure a Queen"
and other combinations.
I think articles should be placed at the back with a comma before the article (e.g. "Feud, the"). Because that would make searching easier (sorting tables), preventing all the quests starting with "the" to be placed with the quests starting with a "t". Further more, if you want to search for the quest "The Feud" I would look at the "f" no the "t", but that is personally.
I don't know what to do with the Fairytails.

Laar 88.159.136.219 18:17, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

Recurring Themes?[]

Should we add a section about common plot lines in Runescape? For example, we could talk about how often quests start with an NPC exploiting the player's gullibility and culminating in a "shocking" betrayal. It could work really well in the article.

Correction[]

Hi, I believe I have noticed a mistake on this page. It says that there are currently 289 quest points available (without Unstable Foundations), but if my calculations are exact, 291 (total quest points, source: RS client as of 21th of October 2009) - 1 (quest points received for completing Unstable Foundations) still is 290, not 289. Or is there anything I forgot? If not, could someone edit that please? The page is semi-protected and I have only recently made this account, so I cannot do it myself. Thanks. Regeniskoel 14:09, October 21, 2009 (UTC)

Total Quest Requirements[]

Just something interesting I noticed... according to runehq's combat calculator, the current minimum level requirements to complete all quests would only bring you up to 79 combat (assuming that you have 10 hp levels). To reach 85 combat with just the minimum quest required combat stats requires 33 hp levels. Also, if you could have 0 hp levels, you'd still need at minimum 33 att/str/def levels to reach 85 combat. That makes the minimum total level an estimated 1522. 72.224.22.250 06:02, December 18, 2009 (UTC)

Theres a quest that requires a certain Constitution level now. In Nomad's Requiem if you don't have atleast 76 hitpoints you'll get (censored) by his 1st special attack, which is when he throws out flame vortexes (mines) around the player and then does a targeted attack that ALWAYS hits 75. The table on the Quest page needs to be updated because of this.

Requirements for Blood Runs Deep[]

Shouldn't the highest level required for fishing be considered 96 because of the requirements to unlock Blood Runs Deep (Fremennik Achievement Diary)?

Required lvls.[]

I have an idea: let's modify the layout of the 'requirments' for quests. In my perspective it's not complete (enough).

Like with the "The Temple at Senntisten", it only says you need lvl 50 prayer, but practically this is not true. There are also quests requirements, that on its turn have skill requirements too.

Wouldn't it better or more informative if we would ad another sub-set to the requirements box, listen the practically required. With the "The Temple at Senntisten"-quest: you also need (in addition to the lvl 50 prayer) at least lvl 53 thieving (because that's required for the 'The Deasert Treasure'-quest).

I know it's more work, but once you start doing that it will be much more helpful 'planning' for the quest(s). Also once you start it it's also easier to keep it going (for future quests). I think this investment might very well pay back.Leon Art 21:54, March 9, 2011 (UTC)

Combat Level[]

The section after the level requirements about combat level is outdated- having the requirements for all the quests now would give you a combat level of 88, and that's if you only had 10 Constitution. With the Consitution Levels you'd gain from getting the other levels, you'd probably be at least level 100.

189 total quests instead of 179?[]

My adventurer's log states that I have completed 189 quests, while it only shows 179 items in-game. I think this would contribute to the useless trivia section I always jizz on. -.- It might be the holiday events or something similar? Removed quests like Romeo & Juliet?

Most automatic counters take into account the various sub parts of Recipe for Disaster as separate quests; while Jagex actually counts those as a single quest, and thus the 200th quest is yet to come. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 10:34, April 22, 2014 (UTC)
ok.. that makes sense User:Heavyoak/Signature 10:40, April 22, 2014 (UTC)

New header on all quest pages[]

A feature at the top of the page that says something like "this quest has a story recap which can be found here", and then links to the quest series page for that quest.  For example, the header for "Plague's End" would link towards the "Elf quest series" page, where the player can re-read the events that occurred during plague's end. I'm not sure many people are aware of the series pages, and this would be a great way to get more people to visit them. Headers already exist for quick guides, so this could easily be put either above or below the quick guide header. Any support?

That does sound interesting, I do worry though wouldn't that clutter the top of the page with too much notices though? The infobox does, after all, have a link to the quest series most of the times. You might wanna put this in the Yew Grove. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 07:05, May 27, 2016 (UTC)
I don't think it's necessary. As Salix said, {{Infobox Quest}} already has a quest series parameter. Quick guides receive a template at the top because there are no other links to them on the page; that standard generally applies to hatnotes (eg. {{HasMMG}}, {{Otheruses}}). --Iiii I I I 08:15, May 27, 2016 (UTC)

How hard would it be to code that into the infobox as well? A parameter for "|quickguide = ", where "yes" auto-generates the link to the QG? Small recharge gem AnselaJonla Slayer-icon 08:26, May 27, 2016 (UTC)
It wouldn't be hard to add that to the infobox, but I guess a notice for the quick guide is more in your face than a link in the infobox. And some people usually go to the quick guide instead of the full guide. Personally I wouldn't mind it being just a link in the infobox though. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 08:32, May 27, 2016 (UTC)

Ironman Requirements[]

Can we also add in Ironman-based requirements for certain quests? There are a lot of quests where items require a specific level to obtain. Puretppc (talk) 21:29, October 23, 2016 (UTC)

Hi, just wanted to ask how often does that happen? Do you have a full list of such instances? If it's comprehensive, maybe we can get around to updating it for Ironman users. Alchez 14:32, October 29, 2016 (UTC)
There are several quests where certain items are out of reach of ironmen because of the level requirement circumstances. I can't list you every single one but do you reckon you can make a "template" and let users individually edit quests for the skill levels required for certain items of certain quests?
