Small correction

"Note that all trimmed and god-blessed dragonhide do not offer additional stat bonuses and are purely for aesthetical use, besides the Blessed dragonhide coifs which do not degrade like a normal Black d'hide coif." it should be mentioned that there are situations, God Wars and Bandits, where the blessed dragonhides may be useful (besides their aethetical use)24.35.56.231 03:10, February 7, 2010 (UTC)

Cleanup?

The article looks decent to me, but I have been going through and fixing some very minor errors. Am I missing something huge?Orbie 01:49, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Longranged attack, crossbow bolts, and throwing rings

We need a segnemt about the longranged attack option. It provides both defense and ranged exp. It lets you shoot farther, but it is slower then other attack options. Since it shoots so slow, it is not a good way to train your defense, but the added attack range can be useful.

Also, it is worth noting that bronze crossbow bolts are the cheapest ammo at the varrock archery shop (1 gold!) so they are great for training ranged if you can't afford more expensive ammo.

And there is yet another name for those throwing rings. It cound be called a 'chakram'.

--Wiiwantxbox 01:29, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Gloves/Boots

Should leather gloves and leather boots be included in this article? I don't think so, because they aren't ranged armour. Rangers don't usually use gloves because they have vambraces, and saying that boots are ranged armour is like saying that capes are ranged armour. Even though they may be leather, they aren't ranged armour. -- Couchpotato99 (talk) (contribs) 21:38, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Prayer bonuses?

Should the new prayers be added to bonuses or boosts or not at all? I will leave this decision up to someone who knows what they are doing. Megalodon99 21:21, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Oops forgot about them. I'll add a little info about them.--Richard 21:21, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Man...

Was that ever an overhaul! A p2p training part is still needed though, but I can't do that, unfortunately. It's also on the verge of 32 kilobytes...--Richard 15:30, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Congrats. *gives a cyber-cookie* this is some sweet work. Vimescarrot 15:32, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Featured?

I think this is quite a good article, and it could be featured on the main page sometime Andy mci 08:08, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

It's a little iffy.

Here's what I've done: I re-did the Range bonus section. It failed to clarify several points, and repeated a phrase used in the previous section. In the throwing axe section, it said ‘good damage.’ Also, is it necessary to say “blah blah blahs give a range attack bonus” for every object? This still really needs a good once-over or five. -4.225.190.150 00:23, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Do it then. No-one's stopping you. JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 08:09, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Minotaurs for f2p training?

Minotaurs in the first floor of stronghold of security are a pretty good choice for training lvl 20-40 range, as there is a short wall that can be used for hiding and they drop iron arrows (lots of them) and few bronze arrows . I've used them for my own training and got like 1k iron arrows in one day. I think they should be added.EMG Blue 16:57, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

I agree. One can possibly pick up more arrows than one expends, even if only getting drops, not re-using the shot arrows. I am going to train there someday...Mathwhiz90601 20:15, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

if there's going to be a section for this it should be expanded and made better otherwise we can just put the monsters that drop arrows on the arrow items' pages.--Atlantima 19:47, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

I updated most of the info in this section based on material from Rune HQ. Several monsters still not added. You may also consider adding knife drops. Thautrane

Some Random Info

Maximum hit in F2P on rapid with adamant arrows, 99 range, and prayer, is 18 ---I got range 99 and its true. Would like to add that 18 is the max hit for both accurate and rapid and long-range attack style.---. Someone with 99 range should verify this, as I cannot personally prove that it is true (however, I have a few friends with 99 range, not to mention that it is somewhat general knowledge within f2p range pkers). The only reason this is notable is that most people use the rapid attack style much more often than the accurate style, whether it is pvp combat or training.

The red chinchompa method for training range under ape atoll should be mentioned as a method of training ranged, as it is the fastest ranged experience in the game (aside from a good Pest Control clan). I have no source to verify this, though various discussions on the Runescape official forums corroborate this. --- how about chinning at skellettons at the chaos tunnels, havent tried it myself but since there are way more monsters there i guess its faster then ape atoll ---

The range potion can raise a player's range level by a maximum of 13, not 12. While I am not sure of the exact formula, I believe that it could be 10% of a player's range level, rounded up, plus 3, though that is mere conjecture (however, I am 93 range, and a range potions does in fact seem to raise my range level by 13). Also keep in mind that this basic formula also seems to work for the minimum range boost of a range potion, which is 4. ---its 10% then rounded down + 4 ---

best armour section

I have added the best armour section but there is 1 problem in the guide there is a line saying the max bonus is 201 but i only get 198 ^^j-g 08:48, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Red Chinchompas

Why does this article have nothing about using red chinchompas :'(

I've been to soooo many fansites trying to find out how many of them you need for 80 to 99 range. After all the others failed I figured this one would definitely have what I wanted to know. So I come and do a search and there are 0 results for Red Chinchompa, and only 2 results for Chinchompa. Rendova 00:14, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Arrows on ground decay, but how?

Posted this under the decay but thought it might get more attention here.. How do arrows on the ground decay? Does the whole stack disappear after X seconds. Or does it keep a timer for each arrow? Has anyone run tests on this.--- they dissapear after 2 minutes from the first arrow. whole stack at once.---

popular armour section

it says no ranged armour gives a prayer bonus, but armadyl armour gives a small prayer bonus, +1 for each piece

All right, I fixed that. If there's any more armor that gives prayer bonuses, let's put them in.

Highest f2p ranged bonus

Do you think this should be included? There is a f2p training section after all... the components of this set are: 1. Green dragonhide body 2. Green dragonhide chaps 3. Green dragonhide vambraces 4. Amulet of power 5. Maple shortbow/longbow 6. Coif 7. Arrow slot: none 8. Cape: none 9. Ring; none 10. Footwear: anything, other than fancy/fighting boots (these negate your ranged bonus!)

well its actually how you shoot if you're right handed since you pull the string with you're right hand.

Training

what is with the training section, training should be the fastest way to level it, instead it seems every possible thing to kill is listed. would it not be better to have only 1 or 2 ways? Corhen 06:33, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Hope it help

I added the cost of the highest possible ranged bonus because im tired of searching for every one to see the cost of it. Hope its useful to somebody Jdogy15 02:37, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Okay... I agree. It might be useful - but maybe few more people should agree first. I'll revert (for now), and raise the issuse on Talk:Armour (since all of the "Highest Bonus" pages are branched off from there). If the decision is a yes, I (or whoever) will add the cost to all highest bonus pages, with live data from the GEMW. It'll be more accurate that way. Little Question

ok, i have been playing RS for more than a year, and i was wondering if mithril arrows can hit more damage than steel arrows, okok confusing, but its more than, i just know that high leveled arrows dont broke frequently am I wrong?Jd0064 22:53, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

Higher levelled metals hit more damage - as mithril is higher level than steel, mithril will do more damage.
As for arrows breaking... I don't think so. As far as I know, all arrows/bolts have the same chance of breaking randomly. I may be wrong though. Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 18:22, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

Chins on Mummies...

I've personally used red chins to train my ranging up a little, the Skeleton monkeys are 10x better and easier to kill. Why would people put mummies instead? Not to mention they spawn in there bones, so it's constant and not needed to go gather all the mummies up again. Abyssal whip detailFerrelShadowDark bow 06:06, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Ranged formula?

Now that there is this "ranged str", is there a formula that calculates the maximum hit? --King x treme 23:01, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

To a very good level of accuracy the following formula works.

Damage = [(LEVEL + 8) x (BONUS + 64)] / 640

This is the same for both melee and range. Unfortunatly, while it's very good for dealing with normal/potted/prayed max hits, it falls down at other times, such as god sword special attacks and range void armour. --W i l m o t 03:47, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Void knight armour

Void knight armour increases damage by more than the 10% stated on the KB. Infact, it's ~20% more damage and is pretty obvious when you start looking at max hits with and without void armour. For example, broad bolts + pot + 99 range has a max hit of 31 without void and 37 with void. I'm new here though and reluctant to change it to something that many people will see as 'obviously' wrong. (W i l m o t 14:26, 4 May 2009 (UTC))

The Void Knight Ranging Set exchanged for 850 Pest Control points increases ranged accuracy and maximum hit by 10% and is thus very useful in training Ranged.

You are right, it is indeed wrong. The damage boost is 20%. For more information see the discussion at void armour set. Void pure 16:30, November 9, 2009 (UTC)

Wait, WHAT!?

As far as I've seen, after the recent update, you can no longer safe-spot range. Anyone want to shed some light on the subject. Kirby111 Talk to the master of DINNER. 15:17, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Was a glitch, is fixed.

Max Hit In F2P

Yeah so a trick I used to use when I was a member was to pot in members then switch to nonmembers, the bonus does stay. I don't have 99 range so i'm not sure of the exact max hit, but it should be 21+. Should this be included as a sidenote because the damage is getting dealt in Non-Members?--Mage Pker V2 20:56, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Lol that in no way counts. That doesn't at all. That's a members object you used to get the bonus, so that's not an f2p hit, it's a p2p hit.

Ranged 53?

The page says that ranged 53 is needed for highscores. I have ranged 53 and i'm not in highscores. Whys that!?

You need more experience. Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 17:46, June 8, 2010 (UTC)

"The maximum boost (while not on slayer assignment) can be achieved wearing Void Knight equipment,a ranging skillcape, using an Extreme Ranging Potion, and the Eagle Eye prayer."

Ranging skillcape's boost doesn't stack with the boost given by extreme ranging potions and eagle eye should be replaced by rigour, since eagle eye is no longer the best ranging prayer.

Trivia addition

I heard from a friend that there was someone to reach 99 twice before anyone else did because he got banned or something. Anyone know what I'm talking about? It sounds like it would be great for the Trivia section. Michagogo 13:24, October 28, 2010 (UTC)

Yea it can be found on the page for 99s. 82.25.56.135 17:48, October 28, 2010 (UTC)

Bonus and max hit?

In some pages (and parts of this page), it says that ranged bonus and max hit are unrelated, yet this doesn't seem to be the case according to the "Max Hits" section. Can anyone clarify this?

cannon also crush?

I know that (the) cannons are ranged weapons. But some monsters that are weak are against ranged and/or stab. Since arrows can pierce, that seems logical. So I was wondering, cannon balls don't really seem sharp, rather blunt. Might this make monsters that are weak vs crush also weak vs cannon balls? Seems like a valid assumption, right? Leon Art 17:16, July 4, 2011 (UTC)

What would be the best place to train range with 75-99 without chining? With the current prices most players cannot buy large enough multitudes of them so they are looking for another spot. Members or free to play doesnt matter because armor could be changed.

F2P armour

with the EoC update. F2Ps can now use magic bow and blue d'hide. from my knowledge thats the only thing new. and since its EoC, i dont know how to calc. to find the stats or whatever. nothing is different from before EoC other than F2Ps can use them now. in the runescape guide it still says blue d'hide is members, but F2Ps can equip it without getting members. just like any other F2Ps stuff. the reason why they did this is cause melee has lvl 50 gear (rune) magic now has lvl 50 gear. (i think thats that spider robes or whatever) making range now weak on armour/bow. ? i dont know how to edit the page or correct it in anyway. so this shall do.

Do any ranged abilities use arrows or ammunition? I realize this is easy to check for myself (at least for f2p abilities, as I am), but I think this is good to add to this article for completeness.
