Guys, seriously, this page has to be improve ALOT. It should link to a bunch of the other pages too I guess. Anyone, the information should be much better. It should mimic Wikipedia's RuneScape article. So I've added the cleanup to this page.--Richard1990 17:37, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

This is not the front page, perhaps a rename to "About Runescape" would be better, or backlinking to the main page where all the content links from? Ace of Risk 19:34, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

i think we need more info. that isnt the same as wikipedia's. if the majority is the same, then there is no need for a rather specific wiki...--stawars6 19:18, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

New Article!

I copied the vastly superior, GFDL licensed Wikipedia article to this one. It's completely legal, and it's necessary for the survival of this wiki that we use all resources available to us.

Great! MUCH better!--Richard1990 19:07, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

As soon as I'm sure there's a consensus on this article I'll copy edit it and fix the links and tables. Awesimo

Discussions/Potential Problems

I have two really good questions I'd like to submit for general discussion for people to talk amongst themselves about. As this is the Discussion tab, I figure it's as good a place as any to submit this.

The wikipedia entries for Runescape say that "Runescape Classic" was released in early Q1 of '01. Does anyone recall the name of the version released in '99, after DeviousMUD? My question is based on my own personal experience having played it way back when. Submitting to evidence of the either improper date listed on both Wikis, or improper general knowledge, are two mentions. 1: The copyright at the bottom of the Runescape page clearly lists the copyright as being from 1999-2007.[1] 2: The Jagex corporate site clearly mentions (Under the History tab) "In December 2001 Andrew, Paul and Constant got together and founded Jagex Limited as a commercial operation to take over the running of RuneScape, underlying technologies and other games developed by Andrew. RuneScape had already by then become a game which had had over 1 million accounts created over 2001!"[2] This mentions Jagex being officially created in 2001, and that the game gained 1 million accounts over the year, however, it doesn't specifically say that it was created in 2001. Discuss.

Bottom of the main page on

Jagex Software's History page

Second question: Mostly an observation than a question, but I notice on the Wiki pages, it says this: "RuneScape is usually updated weekly by Jagex. Although the majority of content updates are accessible only to paying players, updates can bring new areas to explore, new items to collect, new skills to train, and new monsters to fight." The second sentence I have no problem with, but the first sentence seems to have a little awkwardness to it. I've noticed Jagex recently has been doing three updates a month, roughly, on top of various bugfixes. Usually they are at the beginning and end of a month, and then somewhere in the middle. Now, while the sentence currently there is cleaner than explaining how they do it, it also seems like it may be a deterrant to new players who, upon seeing this, then noticing how long it's taken them for, say, this month (last update the 15th, today is the 27th), might think that they're being a little bit slack nowadays. Discuss.

And, as I've already said: Discuss away! Trunkuza 17:47, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

I remember this as well. I played since before Varrock, Barbarian Village, Adamantite, Black or Rune Armor. I remember the DeviousMUD, after that it was just "RuneScape", but it was a very small game back then. The name of the game after DeviousMUD was just RuneScape, however. That's been it's name since the DeviousMUD ended. The Beta too that was released, I believe.

I don't think RuneScape was originally copy-righted or lawfully owned until a little after the game was changed from DeviousMUD, even as it was "RuneScape", I don't believe it was legally owned right away. JadeTora 05:10, 11 November 2008 (UTC) Jade

It is completely illegal what richard1990 has done. See what is said below the "edit box" "Do not submit copyrighted work without permission! " Wikipedia has copyrights for their pages. Delete this page.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) on 2008-01-08T22:02:37.

Actually, I believe Wikipedia has all of their pages open to the public domain. If a webpage sources to a public domain source that it got information from, it's perfectly okay. Dragon medium helm! Whaddaya know?Chiafriend12Better than rune!Loon is best buttlord 22:14, 8 January 2008 (UTC)'

Member drop

"...and with over 1 million member accounts..." I think is incorrect. Since the December 10th updates, the average number of people playing has dropped down to half of what it used to be.

Problems needing fixing

In the "Other languages" section, it says there are 5 german worlds, 3 free and 2 member. They have changed that, there is now only one member world for German people. Trio0 22:18, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

They changed it again. At the moment there are two worlds for members and one world for free player in german language. Ebrithil94 22:44, March 19, 2012 (UTC)

Server section needs to be updated

Also, "Learning the Ropes" is no longer the Tutorial Quest. Now players perform "Unstable Foundations", in which they learn only a few of the basics of the game, and are then thrust into the world with absolutely no items or money. Players are constantly referred to the question mark in the top right-hand corner of the screen for information on various skills and actions whenever the skills or actions in question become relevant to the player.

No. The screenshot is not of DeviousMUD. --Gold ore.png Mercifull UK serv.svg (Talk) 21:12, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Runescape seems down

Some dungeoneering RC bug?

They made an oopsie with Runecrafting exp (2000 exp instead of 2). O_O He has knocked four times. 17:03, April 14, 2010 (UTC)
As a result, we shall be temporarily be closing down the servers until this issue can be resolved. When the servers come back up with this bug fixed, we shall also be rolling back everyone’s save game state to the point where this bug was introduced (which should be no more than about 30 minutes’ worth). - Mod Emily 17:04, April 14, 2010 (UTC)

They said it would be fixed soon but guess what? I still can't login meaning they are still fixing it. I just also looked on the forums and it says 2000 + active users but there is 0 people playing. Read the template at the top. How does this have anything to do with the wiki's main page? --LiquidTalk 21:38, April 15, 2010 (UTC)

there's a graphic proble with the high graphics. i dont if that important but there is...

hey how do I play runescape?

In the reception part of the page it says..

"In short, the game of RuneScape is a fun, addictive game, and while the graphics may not be perfect [this review was done before the RuneScape HD update]..."

Where it says '[this review was done before the RuneScape HD update]', this is implying that with the HD update, the graphics ARE perfect, which is not the case. Just a smallt hing that annoyed me and which I cannot edit.
