How we could make website better?

Here's an idea, making a separate "Training" section under the "Skills" tab on the main page. If you don't understand what I'm saying, here's an explanation. If you mouse over the "Skills" tab on the left side of any page in the RS wiki, it comes up with "Members", and "Free to play".

They should add another tab there labeled "Training", if you mouse over this, it will pop up with a list of all the skills, then if you click on one of the skills, it will take you to another page specifically about training a certain skill.

This would take some of the stress of of some of the larger guides, and let us expand the training guides of the smaller skills (that we dont already have huge training sections on the skill guide). They also already have a separate Slayer training guide, that was split from the regular skill guide because it was so gigantic.

the number of animations (advertisements and otherwise) can slow down computers if multiple windows are open. Anything that reduces the number of animations playing, or the processing power they take would be nice. Since I last checked this site has otherwise improved greatly.

Its just my opinion that we should do what wiki suggests to do first... like cleaning up articles and/or enhancing the contents... Its just my Opinion though >_< --(GuardianAngel 05:18, 9 August 2009 (UTC))

There are lots of ways to make this site better. I have a couple. Well for starters I think the site should be made more readable like in all the posts everyone types alot of random stuff like lol, brb, ty, yw. Not everyone knows what these mean. I know what they mean but not every one does. When I first got to this it was and still is confusing to find what your looking for. I didn't take me that long to find this I already knew how actually I just forgot. It should be more organized. Another thing is that I noticed people can say pretty much whatever they want. One last thing is that the background of the website wich could be the reason why it's confusing. It's not very inviting give it a little or a lot would be better of pizzaz!

I'm trying to create something similar to the Maincomplete template with random images for a different wiki, however it keeps getting cached, so it's always the same images, I was wondering how this is avoided, thanks Reddo 19:53, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Main Page Problem

Ok, I made this vid to show you guys what is wrong with the main page (for me at least). Note: I have tried both my Mac and PC and both Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers. Main Page makeover

Ok, simply put, we have too much stuff on the Main Page. It is also very unorganised - for example, User of the Month is on the very bottom! Here's my proposal...

1. Shorten the "Welcome to Runescape Wiki" Box by removing all the possible languages. Instead, we could only leave the "Other Languages" Link. Same goes to sister-sites.
2. Featured Image is severely cropping the "featured article" Box. I suggest we merge the two together, with the Featured Image being put in bottom Right Corner, And the Featured Article Taking the Rest of the space. I mean, seriously, featured image doesn't need that much room!
3. Shorten the "Popular Articles Column. Most of these can already be found in the Bar on the left. These include: Quest Walkthroughs, Genral Guides, Skill guides, lands and cities, polls (as this has been abandoned), Minigames, Treasure Trails, Weapons, Armour, Runes, Items, Discontinued items, Adventurer's tales (Discontinued as well).
4. Move Featured User to the left, so it isn't the bottom box.

I would recommend removing the image in the "Feature article", since we already have a "Featured image". The "Featured user" could be shortened by just mentioning the name of the featured user. Promoting WOW?

I was just going through a few of our quest quides and what not and i realized something... we on the RuneScape Wikia are promoting World of Warcraft. I noticed this about 2 days ago. There is atleast 2 adds of WOW only even in the middle of guides!!! I was just thinking it might make some people play WOW instead of RuneScape. So Just an idea off the top of my head maby remove most of the adverts in guides and elave them on spots dedicated to adverts such as as the bottom or sides...any one thinking the same here? 75.104.192.37 03:06, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

In addition to what's been said, I've noticed some ads for "Evony" which blatently use boobs to try and get us to take interest and join. As a quote from Wikipedia says:

"The images depicted females who, as the ad campaign continued, grew further and further unclothed, until the ad was simply a bra-clad pair of breasts" Somehow I don't think it's an appropriate advert for RuneScape wikia users. Zenihdrol 19:44, September 22, 2009 (UTC)

This isn't something restricted to just this website, and is a function of your browser. You can select within your web browser the ability to always type in passwords into the various websites that you use, and to scrub all "cookies" and preserved passwords. It isn't something we can do much about here on this wiki... other than remind people like you to be more conscious of security issues.

I agree, this is a stupid practice that such passwords are even kept and preserved on your web browser. Perhaps if you do a hostile take-over of a majority of the shares in Microsoft you can make a difference here and get this practice to end. --Robert Horning 15:58, October 31, 2009 (UTC)

GE update notification

I'm curious about how you would be able to identify when the last update actually happened, and if it was a universal update (for all items on the GE) or just for a small number of items? Yes, I've used the GE long enough to know there is often a specific time (usually but not always once per day) when the prices update, and it seems to be somewhat general. Unfortunately this isn't a statistic Jagex publishes, nor is it something you can identify other than constantly polling some page seeing if the price has changed, if that price has changed with the last update. If you would be willing to help us in monitoring the time since the last update, I would certainly be willing to help with making a template and placing it on this page. I am not asking you to do this by yourself, but organizing a WikiGuild and taking the leadership to make that happen would be appreciated. Poll errors

There's something wrong with the bottom part of all the front page polls. They're doing impossible things. Like predicting the opinions of people in the distant future and assigning everyone a monetary value.

That's a matter of opinion. I liked it and so did a few others, but meh...I think the current one is very ugly and plain and boring. It's Green Font.... Anyways, yeah...Change it to say Happy Holidays though. Some people don't celebrate the New Year in the same fashion (Chinese) and others have other celebrations than Christmas so it's best to hit two birds with one stone and wish every a happy holiday in general.

Annoying ads

I'm not sure if this is allowed or not, but I simply use third-party software such as Adblock Plus, or hosts files, to eliminate adservers directly and effectively. Adblock Plus. As far as I know who ever made this site it wouldn't block the ads it would but only the ads on his/her screen. Otherwise you have to have ads on sites, unfortinetly.

Header Template

We hardly edit the Main Page so lag does not come into play. In fact, using multiple layers of templates actually introduces more lag. Using this template broke the settings for each box, i.e padding, alignment, and possibly the CSS class for some boxes. Reorganised

I hope I'm not overstepping the mark by making changes to the main page without gauging consensus first, but I have made some layout changes that seem logical. I have put featured items (article, user and image) together near the bottom of the page. Recent information (today's common trade index, On This Day, latest updates, and the opinion poll) are together nearer the top. I think this kind of information is probably of more interest to visitors than the featured article. CVU and undoing

What the hell, people? I keep undoing vandalism when i get the time, but instead of getting the edit in my contributions, i later get the "undid revision x by y" summary in an edit done by somebody else, and the z time ago says it happened at least 2 mins after i did that. What the hell? Why aren't mny vandalism undoing being taken?

Also, can anyone please explain how the Auto CVU thing works, i can't seem to find the button, and i can already be sure that only Rollbackers have it.

Spell check

Should'nt there be a spell checker on the wiki? I noticed that there have been some small spelling mistakes on some pages I have read recently. Could some one please look into installing one?- and make sure its an ENGLISH spell checker. Finch Claw 02:40, January 20, 2010 (UTC)

Thats more down to your browser than the settings we can control. Firefox and Opera both have spellchecks that I know of, I assume there are other browsers that do too (make sure you use British English not American English).  @Gaz#7521 14:57, January 20, 2010 (UTC)

Runescape Detailed Updates

I think there should be a page where we can list all the changes for an update of certain date; because the "Update:" pages (The news from runescape.com) are very vcague concerning aññ the stuff that was added to the game. This is my suggestion: Update:19-01-2010 Barbarian Assault was updated with 1) 2) 3) New items: BArbarian horn, Barbarian Trident, Barbarian bla, bla bla SKill updates to do this and that, which means that bla bla Market impacts: Abyssal Whips was bought up from GE.

And like this, so we can make more sense from what changed in the game on that day, and we don't need to stream every page related to the update to understand. Of course this page would be constructed in the week (not the same day) of the release when the changes are understood. Sam 3010, 20-01-2010

Recent news/events section near the top

I was thinking that maybe a recent news/events section might be useful. These can be found on Template:Updates and on "On this day" sometimes, but they don't stay there very long. Bad Advert

Dragon items

Is it really neccesary to put this line at every single dragon item? "As with all Dragon equipment this item cannot be made from raw materials using the smithing skill. The Dragon platebody and the Dragon sq shield can be smithed from their component parts."

I don't think it adds anything to articles and it annoys me everytime I read it. People who think the items can be smithed have to take a look at the smithing section. Many item icons need updating

After the Z-buffering update on Sept 15 2010, a lot of item icons seem to have been subtlety changed. I noticed this on the rune scim right away and uploaded it here. A while later I checked to see if all the scimitars had been updated, which they didn't appear to be at first glance (only checked f2p), but they turned out to be slightly different than their older version when opened up and compared to the older version in an image editor. I've uploaded a new version for each f2p scim (bronze, iron, steel, black, mith, addy, and rune), but I don't know about p2p ones.

I also just checked a rune battle-axe and rune 2h against their older versions, and they are slightly different as well (I've also uploaded new versions). I wouldn't be surprised if most melee weapons were updated (if not other things like armor too).

So, if other people could help check for updated item icons (even if they don't look different at first glance) and upload them, that would be nice. Goingtothe 04:34, September 16, 2010 (UTC)

Need to edit Stat Template!

I'd be happy to do it, but I'm not sure how.

What I mean is add the new Absorb stats to the template. I suggest just adding a new line with a Mage icon, Ranged icon, and Melee icon with a shield in the corner.

If you think it's pointless, just create a separate template for other items. Still, for good standards, we need the new template :P

Adamantite bolts

Hey, I got 200 adamantite bolts from a fire giant w/o a row message even though I WAS in fact wearing one at the time, also I seem to be recieving alot of rare drops from the fire giants, any thoughts?

I heard of many bad comments from majority of players ,and they said that RS is rather stupid and uninteresting . These guys will drop of it and choose other games to play . Therefore, we don't think that will owe a long development. How do u think?
