Rune Pouches

Just added a small section on the Rune Pouches which is basic and gives a simple overview of their function.

Bowler225 22:25, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Shouldn't this be on the bottom of the page?

Need sections on abyss and pouches which includes zamorak mini-quest guide.

Should the Abyss have its own guide since it's so big? --Richard1990 13:01, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Yes, sounds reasonable but they're kind of related (come from the same mini-quest, pouches obtained from abyss, etc. --Eucarya 10:37, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

The Abyss now has its own guide. --Richard1990 19:58, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

I guess this page is fairly complete now. --Richard1990 20:24, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

I kinda dislike the images on the article as they make it too big. Wikipedia's article size page says that the size for a page should be around 32 KB. When I check the size for this page, I get 45.07 KB (46,150 bytes). I dunno what to do, other than not put the pics in.--Richard1990 00:19, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

The displayed HTML page may be 45KB, but the article text is less than 14KB, so it's fine, don't worry about it. --X1011 00:35, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Oh. Well how do you check to see the article text size? --Richard1990 00:41, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

It is showed in search results, for example: [1] --X1011 14:31, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Altars are labelled on a player's mini-map as a small circle with a jagged line through it. Can anyone confirm this? They don't show up like this on the world map, and I've never seen one like that before. -- Couchpotato99 19:01, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't think this is true, I have never seen one whilerunecrafting, though it would be helpful.
Not on the minimap, nor on the actual runescape maps, though often added to fansite maps. Ace of Risk 22:13, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

I know it's got its own article, but surely it deserves a mention here?

Also, Why does it specifically say combination runes can be used for Ancient Magicks? Can't they be used in normal or Lunars, or something? :p 17:28, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

We need this to be put in here as an ip "delecately" put it. Sysop crown Megalodon99 (Talk) score 18:29, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Essence Running

Runecrafting xp rates are extremely low. Runner systems are about the only way to get decent xp rates. Yet there is little information on runners. Surely it deserves a description?

Combination Runes

  • This guide should say what combination runes do, shouldn't it? Because I'm not perfectly clear on what they exactly do. Jedibob5 01:39, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Talisman drops

Should there be a mention that abyssal monsters drop a ton of talismans? Because I killed them for half an hour trying to get my pouches back and ended up with 26 talismans, at least 1 of each kind all the way up to nature.

Some of the abyssal monster pages do mention that they drop talismans, but it's probably not worth mentioning in this article. My reasoning: if you are using the abyss you don't generally have much use for talismans (as they are not needed for access via the abyss). The only remaining use of the talismans for someone using the abyss is if they want to create combination runes (needed for some quests). Amaurice talk 16:45, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
But if someone has access to the fairy rings (and the abyssal area there) and won't use the abyss they might want to know about a good way to obtain talismans.

Just a trivial question. How long has runecrafting existed (i.e., when did Jagex add it as a skill?) Mathwhiz90601 06:33, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Training Guide

The article has some great information, but it may need a little bit of a re-write, just to make it a little more clear and a little less scattered with information. Also, something that it's missing is a leveling guide, level-by-level, what to craft and the fastest ways to craft them, including the law-running and air-running worlds. I despise runecrafting, it's my least favorite skill, but it's a highly useful and potentially lucrative one, so it's a great one to level. Any help would be appreciated. I do not know if any of you have realized, but the actual name of the skill is Runecraft as shown by the skills inteface and the hiscores. Even though the name Runecrafting is used by virtually all the players, the fact remains that the skill's name is Runecraft.--Zeeus 23:27, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

The Knowledge Base recognizes the skill as "Runecrafting". Also note that "Runecraft" is used most frequently as a verb and not a noun, so I doubt it would suffice for a skill name.

Then how do you explain the fact that when you hover over the runecraft icon in the skills tab during game play, that it says runecraft. Many other skills such as woodcutting, farming, thieving are also verbs so according to you, they would not suffice. And please put your signature on a template, it's quite long. thank you. Pure Essence

What about pure essence? It doesn't say where that is... Vincent9679 18:42, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Actually, it does. Pure essence is obtained from the same mines where you get rune essence. It is just a pay-to-play (member) option that happens "automatically" once you get above level 30 with your mining skill. F2P accounts can have and trade pure essence, but they can't mine it or really take advantage of being able to craft the more advanced runes with it. --Robert Horning 12:59, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

The article is 38kb long now... We should move something.. I think

Buzz (Talk#P ) 10:06, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

I think "Obtaining Rune Essence" , "Combination runes" parts are too long. Also, "Maximum runes per trip" seems not to be too meaningful but at the same time it takes a lot of space for the table script. I would try to trim it. XDRAGONAITE +Saradomin's Book of Wisdom 10:19, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

I think another way to quickly (but costly) train runecrafting is crafting tiaras. For example i just bought 200 body talismans and tiaras. Crafted them and earned 37.5x200=7500 xp in less than an hour. Do You think its worth adding?

Probably. Thats a good equation you've made and since it is a way to train runecrafting I Support it should be added. By the way you really need to sign your name with the four tidles thing or the signature button instead of editing the talk page anonymously. --Zeeus 04:47, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

It did mention you can craft tiaras and how much experiance you gain. I think thats enough. Just proofread the article lol..--Zeeus 04:50, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

What you guys have said has been reflected in here. Whether the link to the calculator should be included into the article needs further discussion. XDRAGONAITE +Saradomin's Book of Wisdom 06:41, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

This article seems boring. It has all the facts straight and stuff but theres not very many pictures, just of the tiaras and talismans etc. Cant we get like a picture of somone actually using the abyss instead of telling you about it and pictures of pathways from the nearest bank to the temple known as running I beleive and other visual aspects of the skill? It would really improve the article and its mood *coughs* boring atm *coughs*. --Zeeus 04:58, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

First of all, the tone of all articles in Wikia is informative but not entertaining. Visitors are eager to have the answer for their question in mind. So, it is not necessary to brainstorm for interesting them.
Second, since there are too many locations in the article, it is difficult to make all into the map. It is surely impossible to make only a sector of them.
Third, there are a selection of pictures from the main articles like Ourania Runecrafting Altar. Just moving some of them into the article is easy. XDRAGONAITE +Saradomin's Book of Wisdom 06:48, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Body altar for f2p training

Any particular reason that the article doesn't mention the body altar for training in F2P? I timed fire rune runs (using duel arena bank) and body rune runs (using edgeville bank), and body rune runs are faster. That coupled with the fact that body runes give more XP (7.5 compared to 7) should be enough to get the body altar mentioned as the best runecrafting if all you're interested in XP, no? Iplayrs 10:31, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Are you sure if that is the case I'll change my training place.Anteroinen1 16:43, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

I think the earth runecrafting gloves are the fastest for f2p.However it should be noted that the time taken can affect your experience per hour.Powers38 10:09, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Body runes isn't mention for training runecrafting in f2p because its a huge loss and it's actually slower then airs if you use varrock teleport, and unlike bodys and fires, u can actually profit with airs. with bodys or fires you will never profit (unless you mine the essence, but then thats not fast xp at all because you wasted so much time mining essence)

Soul runes

There is a pattern to the level required (however astral runes do not fit the pattern). If we start with airs at 0 instead of 1, we find the pattern is +2, +3, +4, +5... So Soul runes should be craftable at 90 according to this pattern. immibis 04:13, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Astral runes don't fit because they were added later in Runescape when all the other runes were created, so instead they made them half-way, much like a costume room, which came halfway so unlike other rooms, it has to be built at lvl 42.--Africa South 07:43, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Lumbridge ring

I noticed when you runecraft with the lumby ring not only do you get more runes but you also get extra exp I already added this under the section relating to runecrafting i was wondering if anyone wanted to see if this works with any other runes besides air runes. This is the formula i got so far.

(full inventorty of essence) *(exp per rune) *(2 if wearing runecrafting gloves)+(exp per rune)*(extra runes from ring)=total #of runes

if anyone can comment on this that would be helpful :) Manofflames6 21:42, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

You do get extra runes (approximately 1 over 10 of total essence) for air, earth, fire and water runes, but they don't actually give extra experience. Rewlf2 16:11, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

yes u do get extra xp, if u actually know how much xp ur supposed to get u would know this

New death crafting method

with the new teleport to the temple of light death crafting can be done by starting out in llyeta and an equip of monks robes (for light weight prayer boost) penance gloves, boots of lightness, omni/death tiara, lumbridge ring (for energy), ardy cape level 3 (for prayer), faldor tower shield, prayer boosting weapon, prayer boosting neck item (since crystal will teleport you both ways). for inventory pure essence, pouches, temple of light crystal (for temple access, and elf teleport crystal (for travel), along with an abyssal summon if one can be used. steps to get there would be fill inventory at llyeta, go to temple move mirror, craft runes, move mirror back teleport back to llyeta, and recharge prayer at llyeta when needed/ use shield to restore pray. I have not tested this method yet myself but will later on today if i get the chance. also if someone can test this method and see if it works as a useful non abyss/teletab method and if it is found to be a decent runecrafting training idea feel free to add it to the guide and make any changes that are needed. Didn't want to add anything to the guide before its been tested and I thought this would be the best place to put it for now. 14:17, October 23, 2009 (UTC)

Obtaining Ess

After adding another sub-section to how to obtain essence (Ardy cloak), it occurs to me that all of this may not belong on the Runecrafting article at all, but in the article on Pure Essence. After all, how you get the ess has nothing to do with the runecrafting itself. Thoughts? JalYt-Mej-Wynde 22:04, November 4, 2009 (UTC)

Sure, that part had too much in it anyway. I'll go update the rune/pure ess articles right now. But i still think an 'obtaining essence' sub-section is necessary on this article, just to mention and direct to the main ways (rune ess mines, npc drops...) Armeng90 00:05, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Multiple runes update

I've rewritten part of this section because several sentences were copied and pasted from the RS knowledge base. Please try to avoid copyright violation. Its nice to have this new information up quickly for all users, but they could just as easily find knowledge base info in the KB. I just wrote this up quickly so if anyone else can explain it more clearly please do so! S3v3rian 20:44, November 18, 2009 (UTC)

Has it been tested to see what the formula is for average runes per ess for the "in between" levels since the 17 Nov 2009 update? I'm guessing it's linear - e.g., if RC level is 48, then average air runes per ess would be 5 + (4/11), since it is four-elevenths of the way to the minimum level for 6x. If no one has the data already, I guess I'll be testing RC sometime soon.
Also, with this update, do you get a chance for multiple runes per ess beyond what used to be the maximum for a given rune type - e.g., at 65 RC is there some chance for 3 cosmic runes from one pure ess? (If no one knows, some additional testing for me.) Same question for runes for which there was no multicrafting - is there a chance to get two runes from one p ess if you have more than the minimum level - e.g. do you average more than one law per p ess at RC 70? JalYt-Mej-Wynde 21:29, December 2, 2009 (UTC)

Multiple Runes and Percentages

Well I never thought they'd actually do it. Regardless, as the title suggests, I'm an frequent law-crafter, and I'd like to know what percentages of extra runes one gets at various levels. I'm within 50k exp of lvl 80 and once I hit that I'm going to craft exactly 10k ess and see how many laws runes I get. As a general estimate for now, I'm getting about 20-25% more laws at lvl 79 over a range of about 2k ess. Anyway, I was wondering if anybody else felt like joining me in doing some controlled tests on multiple rune percentages (doesn't have to be only laws). It's due time the wiki is able to post some data on the subject.

Couple things to keep in mind for testing:

- You want to have the same RC level over the amount you're testing.

- Higher numbers are much more accurate, craft at least 1.000 essence, 10.000 is ideal.

- Track either the starting and ending essence or experience (experience is more accurate).

- Track the starting and ending runes (Watch out for astrals, you use two for each teleport).

- Divide ( Total Runes Created / Total Essence Used )

- Post your results here, they will eventually be made into a comprehensive table (hopefully: If an awesome editor sees this discussion, feel free to start it)

- Results for any runes, at any level, will be helpful

I'll post my results here probably within a few days. I had a brief thought of doing something similar to charm logs but there're too many variables and it's too much work. Adios! - Blackmage77 20:06, February 1, 2010 (UTC)

Something like this: Calculators/Runecrafting fractional rates ? I am transferring the data from this page. Rich Farmbrough, 13:28 8 March 2010 (GMT).

transferred the three where figures were given, not just a ratio. Reason, the table is designed to accept more samples, thereby becoming more statistically significant over time. Just a ratio means we can't weight the importance of that information.. The table should be easy enough to use, by intelligent cut and paste, and simply adding where a level is already there. No need to do the sums! just add the number of ess and runes thus

|1000 + 10000 + 50000

|1274 + 12134 + 63423

Happy runcrafting Rich Farmbrough, 13:37 8 March 2010 (GMT).

Formulas for level requirements

The minimum level required to craft a rune is (n-1)*(n+2)/2 and the level to craft k runes for integer k>1 is k*(n^2+10) where n is a serial number assigned to each of the runes in the order Air Mind Water Earth and so on. There are two exceptions: the minimum level for Air runes is 1 instead of 0 and Astral runes have n=8.5 with the resulting values rounded off.

Is this information important enough for the article? If so, please incorporate it.

Also, some speculation. These formulas predict that the multiple rune levels of Law, Death and Blood runes are 110,131 and 154. This may be important in determining the chances for obtaining multiple runes for lower levels that was introduced in the recent update. Further, Soul runes could require a minimum level of 90. 16:38, March 5, 2010 (UTC)

Yes, we work on the basis of 90 at the profit per trip calculator. Rich Farmbrough, 18:50 8 March 2010 (GMT).

+5/-5 most common? I haven't tried it, but unless it works differently for runecrafting than for, e.g. slayer, + 5/-5 is definitely NOT the most common boost.

can anyone elaborate on this? If I have some time I might try it myself, but if the author of these lines sees this, maybe he could reply and save me the time :P

Multiple Rune Exp

Do i get more experience for crafting multiple runes?

Say air runes, 5xp each, im currently level 55 rc and i can craft 6 air runes from one essence. Does this mean I get 30xp per essence?

No, you get the same xp, just more runes per essence, as the article states. User:Urbancowgurl777/Signature 16:29, November 21, 2011 (UTC)

Skill renamed

Just thought I'd point out that Runecrafting is now called Runecraft, Jagex dropped the "ing" as part of the name for the disciplin. Of course, one who runecrafts is still runecrafting... but the skill itself isn't called runecrafting anymore. 3mptylord

Was it really renamed and then changed back? It says Runecrafting when I hover over it in my skills tab.

rune mysteries not requirement!

You don't need tohave completed rune mysteries in order to runecraft.. rune mysteires is just to access the essence... I have runecraft on an account that hasn't done the quest..

Have just agged a few sections regarding Runespan, feel free so tweak if necessary :) AndyJPound 08:58, May 13, 2012 (UTC)

Tiaras replace Talismans for Combination Runes

Can tiaras replace talismans in combination runecrafting? For example, if you craft a mud rune at an earth altar, can you use a water tiara instead of talisman? Puretppc (talk) 22:49, October 21, 2014 (UTC)

Not to my knowledge. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 04:19, October 22, 2014 (UTC)

Calculated rates for every rune & level

I've pulled out a couple pf equations tucked away in runecrafting talk pages (thank you Rich Farmbrough and whoever posted "Formulas for level requirements" below) and created a massive table of runecrafting rates. The posters didn't seem certain about the equations but they matched with all the data I had gathered myself with a error of only 2-3%. This of course is the base rate which gets modified by the Explorer's Ring and the Hero's Welcome quest reward. This should come in handy if someone wants to build a calculator for runecrafting rates or average gp per experience at certain levels. I've included Soul runes. We know they craft at 90RC which let me make assumptions on where the rest of the numbers would go.

Rune Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Level 5 Level 6 Level 7 Level 8 Level 9 Level 10 Level 11 Level 12 Level 13 Level 14 Level 15 Level 16 Level 17 Level 18 Level 19 Level 20 Level 21 Level 22 Level 23 Level 24 Level 25 Level 26 Level 27 Level 28 Level 29 Level 30 Level 31 Level 32 Level 33 Level 34 Level 35 Level 36 Level 37 Level 38 Level 39 Level 40 Level 41 Level 42 Level 43 Level 44 Level 45 Level 46 Level 47 Level 48 Level 49 Level 50 Level 51 Level 52 Level 53 Level 54 Level 55 Level 56 Level 57 Level 58 Level 59 Level 60 Level 61 Level 62 Level 63 Level 64 Level 65 Level 66 Level 67 Level 68 Level 69 Level 70 Level 71 Level 72 Level 73 Level 74 Level 75 Level 76 Level 77 Level 78 Level 79 Level 80 Level 81 Level 82 Level 83 Level 84 Level 85 Level 86 Level 87 Level 88 Level 89 Level 90 Level 91 Level 92 Level 93 Level 94 Level 95 Level 96 Level 97 Level 98 Level 99

I have this on an excel sheet. works quite well. if someone wants to work at converting it from a table to a straight calculator. Pen 77 (talk)
