This talk page is for discussing the Runespan page.

Untitled

I have found some information regarding this, but I am not sure how to work with sources and stuff. It's on this thread, page 1, QFC 14-15-509-63683909:

Is there any specific storyline behind RuneSpan? If so, what is it? - if you're allowed to say! Yes, Wizard Finix is claiming that he has found proof that the runecrafting altars will run out one day and become unusable. Whether this is true or not is of huge debate in the Runecrafting Guild but regardless, if he is correct this is of huge concern to all wizards in RuneScape. Fortunatly, Wizard Finix has found a new way to make runes and that is trainable in The Runespan. What is this method? Why do the Runecrafting Wizards not believe him? Why does Wizard Finix believe this? Well, you'll have to wait and see ;)

I have added your backstory, plus a citation. If you know HTML, citations are very easy, just do {normal link to source}} . Hope this helps. 217.43.80.181 06:41, April 30, 2012 (UTC)

Orb of oculusing

it seemed that how high ever was the view taken, the orb kept the same bright.

Lore

Kwekko is correct, the lore behind the Runespan is that Wizard Finix believes that the Runespan, drawing runes out of "nooks and crannies of Gielinor" will be beneficial to us when Runecrafting altars are no longer useful. I highly doubt, however, that the altars will stop serving their purpose. It would tilt Runescape too much. Pkerofguthix (talk) 19:39, April 29, 2012 (UTC)

{C}Sorry, I wasn't logged in. I did the backstory and the previous comment (one under Kwekko). Not that I am claiming credit, just, if there is a mistake, it would be easier for me to be identified, so I don't make it again.

I am the 217.43.80.181 ip address by the way, if that makes my comment clearer. I couldn't edit my comment above, so I will sign this one. FF-Scimiter 06:48, April 30, 2012 (UTC)

F2P?

Is it for f2pers too? Or only p2pers? 76.30.111.123 18:08, April 30, 2012 (UTC)

The First floor of Runespan is F2P, and features all F2P runes while the Second and Third floor are P2P. Go to the wizard's tower and talk to Wizard Fenix to start :) 86.180.99.126 20:46, April 30, 2012 (UTC)

What was said above it right, but F2P can also go on certain parts of the Second floor. 78.150.136.25 21:45, April 30, 2012 (UTC)

Clarity on rewards (P2P rewards)

Could you make it clearer that the rewards from the minigame are only avaliable to members? Though F2P can of course gain experience. 78.150.136.25 21:48, April 30, 2012 (UTC)

Factual correction: Yellow Wizard

The D&D section concerning the yellow wizard had stated that giving the wizard his requested runes would give higher experience than those not requested. While a small bonus is certainly given for his desired runes, the total experience gain of a requested rune set can still be less than half of higher level runes. I changed this section to reflect this, as well as gave a short example to illustrate. -Runelion

Edit: Additional testing has shown that there is a significant increase in bonus experience for requested runes between the 74 and 80 runecrafting range. A level 73 runecrafter gained 3.35k exp for death unreq'd deaths and less than 3k for req'd laws, while a lvl 80 runecrafter gained over 4k exp for unreq'd bloods and over 6k exp for req'd minds. Added a line at the end of the segment to help guide those wondering which method to use. If anyone in the lvl 74-80 rc'ing range could experiment further to find the exact level this enormous boost occurs, it would be greatly appreciated! - Runelion

(First time edit, hope this is correct): I've done 71-80 this week and noticed the requested runes became better xp at level 77. If I remember correctly, it was ~4.5k for bloods and over 5k for the requested runes, starting at 77. - Sababa

Node Rarity Change

Certainly seems like something has been changed as far as node spawning, in the past hour or so. Nodes seem to be spawning very rarely now whereas previously they would cover nearly every square on isles if they weren't taken care of. Mr Goodbard 23:46, April 30, 2012 (UTC)

I noticed that too just now. I hope it's a glitch and not a nerf.

Strange rocks

Is it worth putting in that strange rocks can be obtained here? I got one after about 10 minutes of siphoning from an esshound. Devilquak 23:49, April 30, 2012 (UTC)

Entrance

I did not talk to Wizard Fenix to start Runespan.

I teleport to Draynor, walked to the Wizard's Tower, clicked to teleport on the Runecrafting Guild Portal and selected Runespan Lower.

My method for entry did not represent the options provided in the "Location" section, so I just thought I'd confirm.Emptylord 01:41, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Yellow Wizard Exp Table

While it seems pretty clear that it's best to give the rune asked for and give the highest rune you got otherwise, it might be nice to get the actual formula for it. Feel free to add this table and I'll try to come up with a formula. Promissory noteTHARKON 01:54, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Don't forget to say how many runes you gave him (1-10). I've had times when I've only had 7 or so on me. Obsidian charm Magma2050 T C E Obsidian charm 05:51, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Idk how to add this: I gave 10 body runes, floor 1, 73 runecrafting and I had 1022 xp. At lvl 72 runecrafting I gave 10 body runes for 1008 xp. 91.181.1.20 17:42, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Did he ask for body runes in those cases? Promissory noteTHARKON 18:04, May 1, 2012 (UTC)
I didn't check. However, I tested a few more yellow wizzard: in F2P the xp you get is independent on what runes he askes (and I'm not sure how many he asks, I think 10); no matter what runes he asks, you'll get the same xp. However, if you give lower runes than what's he's asking (I gave air runes once to try), he gave me ~150rc xp, way less than he should be giving. So for F2P (or maybe first floor), XP only dependent on your actual RC level.
Additional: level 74 RC = 1036 RC XP.

Formulas

For giving the wrong rune:

  • Air - 0.2*runes*level
  • Mind - 0.4*runes*level
  • Water - 0.6*runes*level
  • Earth - 0.8*runes*level
  • Fire - runes*level
  • Body - 1.4*runes*level
  • Cosmic - 1.8*runes*level
  • Chaos - 2.2*runes*level
  • Astral - 2.6*runes*level
  • Nature - 3*runes*level
  • Law - 3.4*runes*level
  • Death - 5*runes*level
  • Blood - 6*runes*level
  • Soul - 7*runes*level

For giving the right rune (some estimates)

  • if level < 33, 0.7*runes*level
  • if level < 66, 1.4*runes*level
  • if level < 77, 2.8*runes*level
  • if level < 90, 6.6*runes*level
  • if level ≥ 90, 7.6*runes*level

F2P formulas seem to be the same for the wrong rune. The right rune formula seems to be the same except it tops out.

  • if level < 33, 0.7*runes*level
  • if level ≥ 33, 1.4*runes*level

I am unsure on the formula for less than 33 Runecrafting. I guessed that it was 0.7, but it may well be 1.4.

These rates would imply that:

  • At below level 33, it's better to give earth or fire runes than the correct rune.
  • At below level 66, it's better to give cosmic, chaos, astral, nature or law runes instead of the correct rune.
  • At below level 77, it's better to give nature, law or death runes than the correct rune.
  • At level 77 and higher, it's always better to give the correct rune.

ʞooɔ 00:13, May 2, 2012 (UTC)

Very nice, not sure if anyone noticed yet, but the levels this changes at are the levels new runes are unlocked. So there may be more stages. Promissory noteTHARKON 01:38, May 2, 2012 (UTC)
This explains why F2P caps right after the highest F2P rune. Exp might be always 0.6 more than the highest rune you can make. Promissory noteTHARKON 01:42, May 2, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah. I still need data on the right rune at levels 1-40, 60-66, 68-79, 88-89 and 98-99. ʞooɔ 03:13, May 2, 2012 (UTC)
Giving 10 of the requested rune at level 99 yields 7,524xp. Law rune Samberen Nature rune 20:40, May 2, 2012 (UTC)
i've been adding my info to the table, each time i've been giving over 10 of the requested rune. i seem to get

1876 XP for handing over 10 runes, seemingly regardless of type. this is at level 67, by the way.212.9.124.91 17:28, May 2, 2012 (UTC)

There was a change of the yellow wizard xp : "It is now better to give the requested rune because the bonus xp is always larger than simply giving him your highest rune." (source: http://services.runescape.com/m=rswiki/en/The_Runespan#Runecrafting_Wizards). However for F2P, level 65-68 I found out than giving the highest rune (body) or the requested rune gave the same xp reward, which was 14xp*(rc level) (giving 10 runes each times) (910,924,938,952 xp were given for lvl 65 to 68). You could say in the article that for F2P it is not worth hunting the yellow wizard. From my test, going from level 2 to Finix (to get arrow) to yellow wizard and back to level 2, it takes 2min+ which gives 25-30k xp/h, whereas you can make 50-55k xp/h siphoning nodes on level 2 (test over 1 hour, siphoning the best nodes available and occasionnally hopping islands if better nodes available).84.97.240.166 11:55, May 6, 2012 (UTC)

Considering giving the requested rune gives an entirely separate xp amount depending on level only, not rune type, and the non-requested runes appear to give exp based on the type of rune. Law rune Samberen Nature rune 21:00, May 2, 2012 (UTC)

So it's safe to say that the xp for the requested rune is a 4 or 5 part piecewise? Law rune Samberen Nature rune 21:22, May 2, 2012 (UTC)

Node Nerf is actually a bug.

Mod Pi just confirmed in his Friend's Chat/FC. Will be fixed as soon as Jagex can.

"Hey, sorry for the silence, I'm working on a fix for you " {C}"Things will return to normal soon"

Thank goodness! Node nerf had cut my exp/hour 40%! I did find it odd that they would completely reduce ~all~ nodes (including cyclones/mind storms/etc) which had relatively low exp gain compared to the untouched, instantly-spawning nature/law tier esshounds. That oddity does point towards a glitch rather than an intentional, thought-out nerf. -Runelion

My browser crashed overnight, and now that link has been deleted/renamed, and the map I found when I followed it was less complete. Coming back to this page, I found links to a pair of maps per level - one showing connectors and essling locations, and the other numbered. I can see doing that for the lower levels, which had not previously had numbers along with the other information, as far as I know. But whoever "fixed" the upper level map should please _unfix_ it. I'd do it myself, but if wikipedia is any sample, I'd probably need admin rights to see the map if it was actually deleted; also I don't have the time this morning.198.144.201.98 17:26, May 3, 2012 (UTC)

Changing nodes?

Might be worth pointing out that nodes seem to occasionally "change", or "evolve" if left long enough. Even people in my clan are saying its normal for it to happen...

XP Rates

What is currently listed under experience rates for RuneSpan is rather unhelpful; perhaps testers could go around, testing over a sample of many hours what the average XP is given certain conditions (ie, using only floor 2 with full access to all nodes and teleports (55+ RC) and averaging over time while taking advantage of the fastest XP opportunities, or just camping to siphon the high level monster possible). Since it's sort of random, about 10 hours should be sampled over time to give an accurate estimate of mean XP gained given certain training conditions. This would be extremely helpful in making RuneSpan a more systematic training method where XP rates and general time until levelling up can be calculated most effectively. Partin 02:57, May 3, 2012 (UTC)

There is a 99 Runespan node exp rate guide generated by RuneKraphter in the RS forums. Click here or use QFC:154-155-641-63771756.

10 hours is excessive to say the least, but I got 26K exp over the course of 30 minutes at 63 Runecrafting. Since I was watching TV at the time I would estimate that the 60k exp at 60 runecrafting information is still accurate, or at least not off significantly. I plan on updating this at 70, 75, 80, 85 and 90. NoSkillcape1 04:42, January 30th, 2014 (UTC)

Best strategy

I did a test at 73-74 runecrafting. I did 1 hour of camping death esswraiths and high level nodes (nebulae, shifters, jumpers, skulls), and I got 48k xp/hr. I did 1 hour of camping lower level nodes on a large island (fleshy growths, chaotic clouds, nebulae), without using esswraiths, and got 90k xp/hr. Clearly, the strategy is not optimum. Camping mid-level nodes on a large island is far more effective. I also believe that using the floating essence is more effective than killing esswraiths for essence. 128.250.233.206 05:46, May 3, 2012 (UTC)

I also agree with OP:
I feel the strat is all wrong in the guide, the best XP comes from killing low level esslings for ess and then going purely for nodes.

The current guide suggest you should kill creatures until a node spawns. I believe the best XP is gained by moving around looking for the nodes that are 2-3 tiers below the one you can collect level wise.

Level 83 102k xp/hr, Highest level. There is a spot north of the ladder that you can watch three islands for node spawns that populate quite frequently. Sorry, but we do not allow clans to promote themselves or their homeworlds on pages. Especially when, judging from the other wiki's list, there are already about a dozen on as many worlds. The activities, skills and minigames with unofficial worlds listed are those where people gather even without the lure of an fc or clan. Ofcourse, its understandable. Point-gain of Siphoning Ess-creatures

I'm wondering if there's a set point-gain or a point-gain range for fully siphoning ess-creatures, and if so, if we could document them and add them to the section on the ess-creatures. It would be useful for knowing how much points you should expect to get from each creature if maximum points is your goal. -- k thx bye - Evil Borg2 09:11, May 8, 2012 (UTC)

Ok, so the point-gain just seems to be based on the number of runes you get from the ess-creature. So fully siphoning a soul esswraith would give 35 points (3.5 x 10) -- k thx bye - Evil Borg2 09:17, May 8, 2012 (UTC)

More people drains nodes slower?

What is the basis for this claim? When I'm at runespan, I see people saying this all the time, and they cite this page as their reason for saying so. It isn't correct. There is no reason for Jagex to add a mechanic as convoluted to program as that to the area when a timed change/depletion system that is already in use in places like the living rock caverns is far superior and much easier to program.

The development blog says it pretty clearly in the Gameplay section- "The nodes in the Runespan will not go down faster with large amounts of players using it..." not that there was some special incentive for more people to be siphoning a single node. What this is saying is that the node time is completely independant of the number of people siphoning the node . There is no reason to keep people off a node, but there is no reason to harass people to switch to a specific node either.

This rumor probably was started because some user consistently saw nodes last a long time while a great number of people were siphoning them. Unfortunately, they didn't think to check whether it was any longer than for nodes with no people siphoning them or very few people siphoning them.

Anyway, this isn't intended to be a rant; I just want to clear up this rumor, 'cause it really gets on my nerves when I'm pestered to do something by a large number of people for some completely fallacious reason, especially when they back up their claims by citing a paragraph of user-generated information that was posted with absolutely no research. If you feel I'm wrong, please respond with a counterargument with evidence to the contrary, because I'd like to know if there is indeed some basis for this belief.

Ionic1337 22:03, May 20, 2012 (UTC)Ionic1337

It seems that Runespan nodes are like mineral deposits at the Living Rock Caverns: They spawn and de-spawn at random times based on no factor at all. The statement about nodes de-spawning slower if they have more people on it doesn't have enough evidence behind it, indeed. I would support removing that paragraph whenever any user sees it, unless evidence is also posted.  a proofreader ▸  22:20, May 21, 2012 (UTC)

  • -Point gain from siphoning from creatures has been reduced.
  • -Nodes move more often, and take longer to respawn once depleted.
  • -Siphoning from runespheres now yields twice the rune dust that it did before. There's also a mouse-over tooltip on the runesphere icon, revealing which floor it's on.
  • -The XP gain from handing in rune dust has been increased to 25 XP per dust. Jetdeagon (talk) 19:24, August 28, 2012 (UTC)

Just did a 1 hour test only siphoning soul wraiths and received 1266 points. Pre-update I was getting ~1800 using this method. Since the xp received for a successful siphon is the same as pre-update, they must have just increased the fail rate. I've also noticed that the wraiths will die after 5 successful siphons, I believe this used to be 10. Not sure if the node fail rate has changed, but I have noticed that they now move around more often. Spitfireusa2 (talk) 00:05, August 29, 2012 (UTC)

Can anyone tell me why Jagex decided to just reduce the point gain in Runespan and not even redistribute it? "Best Xp In Game"

If we take the figures given (you can find them on this page) for siphoning the best node, continuously, for 1 hour, that would come to 138k/hr. Given that you cannot siphon them non-stop, right from the start - you either need to collect essence before hand, or continually pause to grab ess; and the nodes are not there non-stop, the real rate will likely be somewhat below this.

This is the best free xp for Rc, in the game. However, there are methods which will give greater xp/hr (even including preparation time, other than the money making), even if you take the 138k/hr figure for the Span.

'Tabbing' blood tiaras, is a method which can net over 170k/hr, if done efficiently, and, depending on your overall xp target, the preparation can be varied to cater. If you're going for 200m, then it is more efficient to also get Master robes.

To carry out this method, you require:

Blood tabs, 3 largest pouches (either Large-Massive, or Med-Giant) and ess to fill them, Blood talismans, tiaras (blank), Pack-yak, TokKul-Zo, Master runecrafter robes (optional) & Runic/Greater runic staff, with Pouch Repair on (optional NPC contact).

This can end up costing large quantities, and takes a long time to gather the stocks for, however it does give better xp/hr (including the time spent getting the tabs, even if you average at only 1/2 max rate of tokens). At some points in time (though only briefly) this would even end up giving you a proffit, from the runes created in the pouches.

If you were to combine runners, with tiara making, or even normal runecrafting, rates can be pushed higher, however I wished to keep this to equivelent training to Span. For F2P, crafting body tiaras whith runners or tabbing, can push 50k/hr, which is better than the rates achievable in the Span, at lower levels.

While not needed to be included in the Span page, I explained these methods to give reason behind the change of the claim "best RC xp in the game".86.144.94.133 12:07, September 20, 2014 (UTC)

Are your numbers including the time spent obtaining blood tablets? Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 13:38, September 20, 2014 (UTC)

Points per hour using fastest nodes?

How many points per hour can you get from using the fastest experience method (which is nodes)? Puretppc (talk) 00:57, November 17, 2014 (UTC)

Color of Bridges on Map

What is the difference between the red and white bridges on the map?  I've been trying to figure it out but cannot, for the life of me. 74.97.40.188 12:32, February 7, 2015 (UTC)

A white bridge will take runes for traversing in both directions. A red bridge only takes runes when moving from a larger island to a smaller one. 5-x Talk 11:02, February 8, 2015 (UTC)
I had no idea, how did you figure that out??  Thanks so much for the reply! 74.97.40.188 08:50, February 11, 2015 (UTC)

High-Level Runespan Portal?

So there's no portal to the top floor, right?  There's no quicker way to get there besides mid-level portal and then bone ladder? 74.97.40.188 02:58, February 8, 2015 (UTC)

Yep, that's the only way --Iiii I I I 03:40, February 8, 2015 (UTC)
I believe it is possible to redirect a portal in the Max guild to go straight up to the top level. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 05:13, February 8, 2015 (UTC)
Didn't the mid-level portal used to be called "high-level runespan portal"?  Anyone know the answer to my other question (the one up there ^ about the bridges)? 74.97.40.188 09:52, February 8, 2015 (UTC)

Question About XP/Hr.

How certain is the xp/hr table?  I should be focusing on nodes that have higher xp/hr and not higher-leveled nodes?  At 72, I'm still focusing on Nebula, then Shifter, then Chaotic Cloud, completely disregarding Jumper and Skulls.  I should definitely focus on the order presented in this table if I wish to level up the fastest, correct? 74.97.40.188 09:51, February 8, 2015 (UTC)

Platform question

Why do platforms sometimes blink? 91.248.62.154 19:58, March 10, 2016 (UTC)

You're standing on them. It's to denote which platforms leads to which other platform. Beach ball ThePsionic Ice cream 20:40, March 10, 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. Well, sometimes they blink without me standing on them or having stood on them at all. 91.248.62.154 21:09, March 10, 2016 (UTC)
It also occurs when you're standing near a platform. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 08:28, March 11, 2016 (UTC)
