RuneScape Slang only

I think this article should cover RuneScape slang only. Listing internet slang in general, even partially, is far too large of a scope to cover in this page. We could start off with a notice that only RuneScape slang is covered in this article, and provide a link to a professional-ish internet slang dictionary, for example this website seems promising. Its not censored, and the results are all what one would expect, for example "shut the f*** up" is the top result for "stfu". Users would be warned of the language content in the link to the website. Whether its just "For a list of internet slang in general, see this website, but be warned because this website is uncensored and internet slang often contains offensive language." or something more elaborate like "For a list of Internet slang in general, see this website, and when clicked it takes them to Slang dictionary/Disclaimer which says "This website is outside the RuneScape Wiki's network and is uncensored. blah blah blah Click here to continue to the website." Basically I'm not happy with the current system where non-RuneScape slang is being added, whether its popular or only used by one person and his sycophantic friends (which I'm quite convinced has happened at one point or another). http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu33/Psycho_Robot/Sigs%20and%20Avatars/kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar 20:21, November 22, 2009 (UTC)

I agree. What's the point of having, for example, 'Abo - Aboriginal Australian' here? Like you said, this page should only have Runescape slang with a link to a page that has a list of general internet slang. Tokkul detail Inhaps talk 20:30, November 22, 2009 (UTC)
But if someone wanted to know if they could be muted for saying "abo" then they could find it here. Ill admit though, there are other obvious things that should not be on here. 22:30, November 22, 2009 (UTC)
Its not our duty, nor our place, to tell players what they can and cannot be muted for. That's something only Jagex can do. http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu33/Psycho_Robot/Sigs%20and%20Avatars/kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar 22:33, November 22, 2009 (UTC)

ROFLCOPTERS

Why have people been muted for saying this? How is it even reportable. File:OldAgility.gif Blazel 22:22, November 22, 2009 (UTC)

I don't know why but for now i have just replaced yes with possibly

The slang dictionary (uncensored) by some is seen as a way to bypass the censor. we could get in trouble with Jagex if players start using it in this way....

I heard someone say this in the clan chat while discussing it one day. It is one of the most true statements I've heard. I think that at least the uncensored version should be deleted.--Cheers, Off-hand Ascension crossbowYodaAscension crossbow 22:53, November 22, 2009 (UTC)

We the wiki cannot in any way be held responsible. We can NOT get in any type of trouble for having this. Seriously, Jagex is not your parents. We do not encourage swearing or rule breaking, this is for information. I have had to use it to look a few things up myself. Stop the fear-mongering, we had enough of that under the Bush/Cheney regime tyvm. It does not help.--Degenret01 16:09, January 7, 2010 (UTC)

Religion

I have removed "J3w" from the list, as it does not pertain to Runescape, and I don't see Hindu, Catholic, or Islam on there, so it has no real value to be listed. Bassjason1 15:42, January 7, 2010 (UTC)

Is it me or

70% of these defenition i never heard???

I've heard of almost all of them and most are internet sourced and come from the dark underbelly of the internet. theres very few that were made up to shorten a word in rs. --Defence cape (t) Rabbit FearArmadyl godsword 04:48, March 15, 2010 (UTC)

Reportable

I dont think the reportable table should be on there, it just doesn't seem right. i think i hear j mod say they usually ignore 75% of the reports with offencive language anyways.Fllour 00:43, March 2, 2010 (UTC)

  • Also i think that people would generally know if its reportable or notFllour 00:45, March 2, 2010 (UTC)

needs mass cleanup

theres so much that needs reworking or rephrasing i wouldnt know where to start. also theres a section created for "pure set" but its blank I would fill it in if i knew what it was but i dont. --Defence cape (t) Rabbit FearArmadyl godsword 04:43, March 15, 2010 (UTC)

2 things

I cleaned up the article removed pointless abrreviations and shortend them where possible and made sure to add links where possible. 1 other thing is that half the article has reportable and the other half doesn't, anyone know why this is? seems a bit odd Defence cape (t) Rabbit FearArmadyl godsword 20:23, May 18, 2010 (UTC)

Well, you could just clear the rest of the reportable out. 17:28, May 22, 2010 (UTC)

If I knew why half of it was missing I might Defence cape (t) Rabbit FearArmadyl godsword 17:40, May 22, 2010 (UTC)

MMOG

I've NEVER heard of anyone use the word "MMOG", and it has always been "MMO". Also, if someone said "mofo" to you, it is reportable if you feel it is offensive. Canadapanda 21:02, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Mofo, as an abbreviation, is not reportable. If you still think it is, I recommend you read the rules again. Also, MMO means Massively Multiplayer Online, which has no meaning by itself, unlike MMOG, which is complete. By the way, can you please use for tildes (~~~~) when signing? bad_fetustalk 21:04, June 10, 2010 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for the pointers Canadapanda 00:38, June 16, 2010 (UTC)

The word "willy"

For some odd reason, when I type in the word willy on runescape, it gets censored. Should I add this to the dictionary? Ocenar 03:51, June 13, 2010 (UTC)

Willy is slang for penis. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 03:52, June 13, 2010 (UTC)

GF

Good fight should be in here because it is refering to the runescape fight. Agent 22135 00:49, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

Its not just RuneScape slang though. People everywhere use it. http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu33/Psycho_Robot/Sigs%20and%20Avatars/kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar 00:51, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
The header states "The Slang dictionary is a list of informal words and expressions that are commonly used in RuneScape." It does not say "The Slang dictionary is a list of informal words and expressions that are only used in RuneScape." At this time, there are four definitions under N: Nat, Nerf, NFS, and NPC. Only Nat is used only in Runescape. In fact, you can't even say the others are used more commonly in Runescape, even though they're also used elsewhere. Should Nerf, NFS, and NPC also be deleted? (That's not a rhetorical question. It's intended to elicit the exact logic being applied here.) There are several examples that could be listed for every subpage, but I picked on N because it's 75% of the content. --Saftzie 02:37, July 21, 2010 (UTC)
Yes they should be deleted. http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu33/Psycho_Robot/Sigs%20and%20Avatars/kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar 02:40, July 21, 2010 (UTC)
And the purpose statement of the dictionary should also be changed to replace "commonly" with "only?" So far the content still only appears to be governed by whim. --Saftzie 02:48, July 21, 2010 (UTC)
I agree with Saftzie, if it's limited to Runescape-specific slang, the definition should be changed.   Chaotic rapier  Jim  Talk  SL Slayer-icon 03:00, July 21, 2010 (UTC)
Ok I will update the description to be more clear. http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu33/Psycho_Robot/Sigs%20and%20Avatars/kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar 03:01, July 21, 2010 (UTC)
You might wanna change this too.   Chaotic rapier  Jim  Talk  SL Slayer-icon 03:26, July 21, 2010 (UTC)
I think that page is clear enough, do you not agree? http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu33/Psycho_Robot/Sigs%20and%20Avatars/kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar 03:28, July 21, 2010 (UTC)
I think he means something like changing "only slang which directly relates to RuneScape" to "only slang which exclusively relates to RuneScape" (without the bold). Otherwise slang like GF, which does relate directly to Runescape, could be included. I'll make that change now. If I missed the point, it can be updated again. It's a wiki, after all. --Saftzie 06:23, July 21, 2010 (UTC)
That sounds good to me. I'm going to move this conversation to the main talk page though, since it relates to everything. http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu33/Psycho_Robot/Sigs%20and%20Avatars/kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar 06:36, July 21, 2010 (UTC)
