need for UU shortcut[]

Does this really need the UU shortcut? Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 14:50, September 29, 2009 (UTC)

Redirects are cheap. Remove the shortcut box from the page if you want, but personally I see no reason in deleting the redirect. Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 14:55, September 29, 2009 (UTC)
Well, removing it is a bit too much, but I think the shortcut's rather unnecessary. Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 14:58, September 29, 2009 (UTC)

Chaos Elemental[]

Could we add a section regarding the Chaos Elemental's Suitcase, etc? Theboy1001 18:37, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

Remove of unnecesities[]

I've removed a few sections from the page that are not quoted and thus don't belong in this article. "Kudos Island Once 150 Kudos are obtained at the Varrock Museum, a person is told that they will be allowed to visit Kudos Island, however; the trip is still being prepared. The area will most likely be and island north-east of Morytania. [source needed] [edit]Eastern Lands Jagex has said that a new continent known as the Eastern lands will be released once the original continent's landspace is finished[source needed]. It is most likely to feature an Oriental theme as notable NPC's of this origin are said to have appeared from this land.[source needed]"

I also removed the video of Runescape Netherlands. Jagex doesn't announce anything in it - there's no evidence they will create Dutch Runescape. --Fbi agen22 23:24, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

Other possible updates[]

I think confirmed updates: -Fairy tale part 3. I do not have any reference, if you do have, please add it to the article.

Uncertain updates (from my point of view):

-Prayer update. About this update, I don't know anything. People in future updates RSOF seem to be sure there will be an update on this half. If you know anything about it, please add it to the article.

-New haircuts: someone noticed a female character with an odd haircut in the knowledge base.

-Some kind of monsters, the 'Bukulla' could be playing a role in 1 of the future quests.

-Dutch and Finnish could be the next language updates

-Andrew Gower should have said they're reducing and eventually eliminating Grand Exchange caps and they're going to double the trade restrictions for long-term friends.

-Regions update: Eastern lands

I also think Jagex' twitter hints should be added to this page every week. And in this discussion page, people can discuss the update. Source: QFC 16-17-671-59680498

No kudos island: "Mod Mark: The so-called Kudos Island has the beginnings of an awesome idea that Mod Maz and I had a few years ago. I have every intention of producing that island...one day. It’s just that our plans right now are quite big and it’s just not the right time to start designing. It is pretty cool, though. Maybe after the Mahjarrat storyline is complete... As for the Soul Altar: when we need more soul runes!"

Please only add any of above updates into the article when you have references. --Fbi agen22 01:43, November 7, 2009 (UTC)

"There will be at least one more elf-related quest before the city is opened, though." - that was said before Within the Light was released. So I think he talked about Within the Light =P It will be a while before Priffindas opens up for us, because there need to be a massive ammount of graphics done for this.. and the graphics team is already quite busy now. Articles for each update[]

I will be going ahead and creating an article for most, if not all the sections/things listed on the article. This is per RS:NIP Point 1/or the nutshell, and also RS:G to an extent. If there is any opposition to this, please bring it up in a RFC or YG topic, and preferably not a VFD, as a policy change would have to be proposed. Dating Citations[]

Since dates are readily available on all(?) citations, should we add them in? For example:

Djpailo asks:

A long time ago, a RuneScape classic high scores WAS promised. This was promised in a news article dating back to "31st January 2004 - RS2 progress report" where you were planning to have separate high scores for both. No new information was then provided. Will we ever get a separate high scores for RSC?

That was a progress report of what we were planning at the time, not a ‘promise’. Unless the sentence starts with "We promise..." then you should assume we are simply being open about our plans and trying to involve and inform our players but that our plans might, of course, change.

Trying to claim we promised something we didn’t just puts us off being open and talking about the future.

RSC high scores are not currently planned.

Those things that were announced once in 2004 have either already been released under a different name, or cancelled. We should remove them. Also, we should probably add this quote to the article. User:C Teng/sig 11:40, December 18, 2009 (UTC)

Need Dates in body of article[]

It would be nice to have the reference date for each statement in the body of the article, so you can tell how old this statement is. It is kind of a pain to keep having to look at the footnotes to see how old each section is. Sometimes I think the statement has been rendered totally obsolete by an update and someone has just forgotten to remove the "hint" from this page. Jimindc 23:08, March 26, 2010 (UTC)

Runescape Client?[]

There's a "runescape client" on teh website. It uses IE to directly go to RUnescape gam page, but it does require java. Is this what is mentioend in teh article?

No, a new version of the client has been released since then that doesn't require Java to run on the computer, as the client has a Java Runtime environment built within it, however, it must be extracted and hence uses 300MB of space. As such I believe that this can be removed from the Confirmed future updates page.Anonymous184 11:42, June 2, 2010 (UTC)

Interview Mod Mark (Mahjarrat quest + Void Knights)[]

Hey, there is an interview with Mod Mark up on Gamerzines with a very interesting last question: GZ: Wat lies in the future for Runescape?

MO: Regarding standard game updates, I'm very excited about a three-part quest we're writing on the various Orders of Knights within the game (that will be released with a new minigame), and also the quest that Paul Gower (the originalcreator of the RuneScape back story and the other co-founder) is writing that concludes one of our oldest storylines, called "The Ritual of the Mahjarrat". One of the glorious things about being your own publisher is that we really can look at today's news and forum feedback and say "No! We're not doing it right, let's do this instead" and take a complete 360 turn. So you can never say for sure about what lies ahead... but I know it will rock!

Could someone add it to the future updates page? I'm afraid my English isn't good enough to write something decent about it. :(

Dungeoneering Batch 2[]

Shouldn't there be a section about what we know about Dungeoneering Batch 2? For example:

- Chaos floors

- Augury for Ranged

- Don't know any more now, but you can find some in the Dungeoneering Q&A thread on the RSOF.

As far as I now, Jagex didn't mention the new prayer will be obtainable by purchaning it with dunge tokens. As for the floors... I heared two different states:

They will add Occult and Warped floors (http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Talk:Dungeoneering says it was said on Twitter) OR Warped and Chaotic floors (somewhere on RS forums). So.. probably no chaotic floor. But.. adding some info about it would be good.

There was a leaked image apparently showing two new floors; warped and chaotic. This was on this website http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Leaks Not a certainty though, it may be false.

Occult floors have been confirmed by Jagex as of 2nd of August 2010. http://services.runescape.com/m=news/newsitem.ws?id=3285

Keyboard Control[]

Just noticed that in this article there is still something about them wanting to look at controlling the player with the keyboard, I later read a Mod say that they tried this and it wasn't possible (due to the camera) can anybody confirm me whilst I look for this source? --Anti bones 21:52, August 7, 2010 (UTC)

Just found it (Keyboard control)
From Q+A from forums:
"WASD movements: will it ever be added to RuneScape?

2High 2PIay

Unfortunately, WASD key controls (which means that you use the W, A, S and D keys to control your character), did not work well in RuneScape when we researched it. The main reason was the path finding, which is done on the server. Due to the frequency of packets and the possibility of missing packets or lag, the player could suddenly move position. Mod Nick"

Can we now delete the keyboard controls part from possible future updates? Anti bones 21:58, August 7, 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps they'll impliment shortcut keys for prayers, summoning and spells, etc. I wouldn't take it out just yet, or put a section called something like, 'Discarded Updates'. Ergori 00:06, August 15, 2010 (UTC)

Runefest Hints?[]

I heard a lot of future update info was revealed at Runefest. Could someone put it all down here?Krayfish 19:21, August 31, 2010 (UTC)

Veterans Cape[]

"Commented By Mod Paul at Runefest 2010 "There is a plan to make a skill cape for our maxed players, now we have finished working on the new skill dungeoneering. Not going to give to much information out right away but it is almost definitely going to be called "veteran cape"."
I watched a recording of this question/answer from Mod Paul, and I was under the distinct impression that he was referring to two capes, one for maxed out players, and one for veterans. Did I completely mishear/misunderstand him, or is this quote incorrect? Iplayrs 07:13, September 1, 2010 (UTC)

OK, the comment I had in mind was made by Mod Mark, the lead designer, during the Runefest Insider Session titled "The Big Questions". I do not know if Mod Paul commented on this at all, or if the person who added that was mistaken about the mods identity and was referring to the same comment that I am. I certainly have no source for a comment made on the matter by Mod Paul.

I listened quite carefully to the question and answer at that RuneFest panel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHuF1Vv8aJw#t=06m41s), and transcribed it verbatim. The result of that is below:

Session Moderator: "...and the next question is on capes, and it's for Mark, and the question is, will Free-To-Play players or Veterans ever get their own Capes?"
Mod Mark: "Right, umm, settle this once and for all. Free-To-Play will not get skillcapes, we're not intending to give the free play the skillcapes, we consider skillcapes to be members content. And we will be releasing a maxed cape, we will be releasing a veterans cape, <Whoops and light clapping from the audience> Umm, believe me, it's something... <More clapping from the audience, Mark pauses to allow them to finish> ...Believe me, it's something that [Head of Runescape] Cristoph asks me about every other week. He has a few topics that he choo-changes around every once in a while just to ge-upset me, umm, and I said a long time ago that I wasn't going to release a veteran cape until we'd finished working on the skill, obviously the skill was Dungeoneering, and obviously we were working on Dungeoneering for about eighteen months, so, now that it's out, now that we've got players quite high up in the Dungeoneering skill, we're going to start thinking about the veteran cape, so all I can really say is watch this space."
Session Moderator: "Thank you Mark, ok, the next question is on..."

So, it isn't apparent if "veterans cape" and the "maxed cape" are one and the same. He says "...we will be releasing a maxed cape, we will be releasing a veterans cape", but he doesn't make it clear whether or not those are two different capes or if he is referring to the same cape twice. Based on the rest of his answer, and the fact that they were waiting to finish working on a large skill to release the "veterans cape", I would guess that he was referring to one cape, which would likely be called a veterans cape, and would be for maxed players (merely being a veteran player by any other definition, such as having played for a long time, wouldn't qualify you.) That, however, is just my best guess. What we can definitively conclude based on Mod Mark's comments, though, is that they are going to be working on cape(s) for maxed players and/or veterans. So, I am going to edit the article to reflect this, until/unless someone provides a reference for another source that suggests otherwise. Iplayrs 22:18, September 6, 2010 (UTC)

New hitsplats[]

I was just watching some of the videos on the runescape youtube channel and found the Developers' blog which shows the mods being attacked and the hitsplats showing what style of attack they are being attacked by (magic, range or melee) and the hitsplats fading away instead of just disapeering like they do now. there is also another video Developer Blog: Void Knights Series with the same hitsplats and the characters have eyes in the video which was before the facial features update came out for players which could mean these unique hitsplats are also going to be added to the game, i cant see why jagex mods would keep something like that exclusive to them. Game update FAQ 5/7/11[]

"Why did the Sea Slug series end at such a low level?"

Mod Osborne: If all quests ended at Grandmaster level, low and mid-level players would never experience a sense of closure with any storylines. Also, large difficulty gaps between quests would mean that a player would need to level up for days, weeks or months before they could continue a storyline; by that time, they may have forgotten what happened, or have lost a little enthusiasm for playing the next quest. I think that ending on an Intermediate level is suitable for the sea slugs – we’ll leave it to the Myreque, elf and Mahjarrat quests to really test your mettle at Grandmaster level.

Dragon Crossbow[]

I've lost track of the quote, but I remember in one of the update FAQs (around the time of tz-haar update & quest) one of the mods suggested that they would not release a dragon crossbow, as they were considering the chaotic as the dragon crossbow.216.232.197.24 19:29, March 22, 2012 (UTC)

Would seem very odd to me since there is both a chaotic and a dragon longsword. Furthermore chaotic degrades whereas dragon does not. And finally, the difference in strength between the chaotic crossbow and the rune crossbow is far more than that of the rune and adamant ones. Then again the level requirements for crossbows relatively don't suggest something in between. It's just a wait and see moment I guess. My contributionsTHARKON 02:22, March 23, 2012 (UTC)

basicaly he's saying SOF is just the first step. and that they are waiting for people to calm down, get used to it, get addicted to buying things with $, before going further into this.

Also add this to the SOF page, saying SOF is only the first step and that there are many more microtransactions to come.

That news doesn't, but the news linked in the article does
a gentle introduction of item sales over time “could possibly be introduced, providing our audience is happy with it”.

This Just in: Real World Trading Rule of Runescape has been changed to make room for Micro transactions.

Source: http://services.runescape.com/m=rswiki/en/Real-world_trading

Basically it says that if they are buying gold, items or accounts from anyone besides Jagex, it is Real World Trading. Which implies that if Jagex is selling those things, then its not Real World Trading ... its Microtransaction.

Also it implies that nobody has the permission of Jagex to sell Runescape related virtual in-game item ....except Jagex themselves.

They have also REMOVED the statement saying that buying success is unfair and someone's real status should not be a factor of their success in Runescape, implying that they are about to sell success in Runescape.

My 2 Cents on Jagex-style RWT[]

If you ask me, RWT and micro-transaction go hand in hand. The latter is a sugar-coated way of Jagex denying its own hypocrisy. Jagex abolished dice, and it's a severe crime to engage in third-party RWT or micro-transactions, yet Jagex allows players to purchase SOF spins, which is gambling and RWT combined. I don't condone any of those actions.
I have no problem with BXPW's or earning SOF tickets via training or PVM. I actually really like them, but I totally dislike buying spins, and it devalues the game especially if I can buy my way to success.
All in all, let's not act like we didn't see this coming. Remember Runefest '10 with this item. File:Flagstaff of festivities.png|link=Flagstaff of Festivities

when it recieves it's update.

It looks to me like this is the Pollnivneach slayer dungeon, the first(shown here) being the room you fought the Banshee Mistress, the second being the entry way(the well's bucket can be seen in the background). Jagex named me Able Tis (talk) 04:44, November 4, 2012 (UTC)
Oh wow, you're right! That totally makes sense, nice call there! http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/blaze_fire12/RuneScape%20Wiki%20Images/Blaze_fire.pnghttp://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/blaze_fire12/RuneScape%20Wiki%20Images/12.png 04:53, November 4, 2012 (UTC)
I tried to add in the pictures to that section, but wiki wouldn't let me(or I'm just wiki inept) Jagex named me Able Tis (talk) 05:04, November 4, 2012 (UTC)

I went to the source regarding that the highest skill will be 95 for player owned ports, and there was nothing there regarding 95 construction. This should be removed as it confuses people.

RT7 / HTML5[]

Should the part Runetek 7 / HTML5 be integrated to Audio and Graphics? But some features are for graphics, some are for Core and Interface.

Btw should the page RuneTek be updated/edited? If not, maybe after the update (probably April). Alex.aaa789 (talk) 12:05, March 22, 2013 (UTC)

Upcoming Prestige System[]

I don't really know how to edit, I can barely figure this out, but shouldn't there be a mention of the upcoming Prestige system for skills that was featured in the latest Devblog somewhere on this article? Arctucrus (talk) 13:51, October 14, 2013 (UTC)

As far as I know Developer Blogs haven't been released since years. Do you have a link to them? My contributionsTHARKON 02:27, October 17, 2013 (UTC)
The news post itself is counted as a Dev Blog: http://services.runescape.com/m=news/dev-blog---prestige . A few of those have been released. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 04:41, October 17, 2013 (UTC)
Thank you, I never saw that newspost. It's in the category of Future Updates, which I didn't know existed and only has four updates in it. May as well mention the poll that has since been released, if only to indicate that this update may not be released. My contributionsTHARKON 00:05, October 21, 2013 (UTC)

Mobile[]

There have been topics about Runescape for mobiles everywhere. I started today playing Runescape by my Samsung Note 10.1 tablet. There are very few ways to play Runescape on mobile devices. So I was just thinking, as I use TeamViewer to play Runescape by my tablet, should it be mentioned in the Mobile Runescape topic that you can use TeamViewer to play Runescape?

Currenly I have less than an hour of gameplay by tablet. TeamViewer is 110% safe and I have never had any security problems. I have been using TeamViewer over 2 years and it has been very helpful. I have mostly used it when doing things from school. I have heard that only the new mobiles are able to run TeamViewer due to small amount of RAM the older mobiles have.

There have been lots of questions about getting banned. Im not sure about this but I take it as a incorrect argument. NOTE: you need to have a good internet connection.

Sincerely, HenDaBen (talk) 21:43, October 21, 2013 (UTC)HenDaBen

I seem not to be able to upload screenshots of my tablet when Im playing RS.
PS You will NOT get banned. I have been playing by tablet for 3 or 4 months and Im still playing.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by HenDaBen (talk) on 17:50, December 20, 2013.

More Upcoming Content[]

I've gleaned this from the Premier Club 2014 March Q&A, but I'm unsure where to put much of it in the article:

  • Tuska will be released, but unlikely to be released this year
  • Mod Osborne suggested the possibility of next year being the year of Vampyre quests as this year is the elf quest year.
  • Pirate god- some discussion
  • 1 known Fremennik god- far in the future
  • Godless lore out of world events
  • Update for the Underground Pass with Mourning’s End Part III
  • Some gods living/dying will be chosen by players individually
  • Early bird for an update after FotG in April
  • Bandos will have an influence in upcoming content now that he’s dead
  • Elder Gods will feature in an upcoming quest
  • 2-3 more desert quests which will resolve Het, Crondis and Amascut, along with featuring Ozan.
  • First part of Elf city to come in September
  • Mod Osborne hopes for a Zamorak quest this year
  • An April quest is “a wee bit secret” according to Mod Osborne.
  • Other quests are planned that very little to nothing have been revealed about
  • Something special planned for the 200th quest
  • Yelps will be a minor comic relief in an upcoming quest
  • Fossil island not currently being worked but is a Mod Mark passion project
  • “Plenty of lore inbetween the quests” will be released this year. -Mod Osborne

New Client[]

Could somebody please add this new information about the release of the new client from mark gerhard's twitter please: https://twitter.com/Mark__Gerhard/status/448789126993960960 31.220.200.103 23:11, March 26, 2014 (UTC)

7th July 2014[]

7th July 2014 update

There are some things we might be able to delete:

  • Cinematic trailer: Can anyone check these and confirm if the skeletons, dragonfire, and pollnivneach smoke dungeon have been updated? How do we know if it is the smoke dungeon anyway?
  • Email login
  • Botany Bay: It says there "MIGHT" be a future update for it. I don't think it's worth keeping this section then because it seems just like a throaway statement.
  • Forum update: We have text effects now. What are "fully fledged profiles"?

Wrong picture at construction update, actually it is ports textures, just play it in HD mode179.185.168.91

Graphical updates of areas[]

It was mentioned on a stream a few weeks ago that Seers' Village was being considered as a possibility for areas that is being graphically updated. No ETA was given though, same with Catherby and WWM, that update was only just confirmed in the latest BTS as being next month. Before the BTS it didn't have an ETA either. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 17:44, July 31, 2016 (UTC)

I do recall them saying something about Ardougne & Seers' Village being an area they could update in a livestream awhile back but I can't find it now. If I remember rightly someone just said them in a list of few places that could be updated in future. However with the Catherby/White Wolf Mountain rework what Timbo actually said was that their graphical rework was coming this year - which is/was definite enough indication that it would actually happen for me to include it. However there are so many that Jagex say they might do (but then don't end up doing) that it is not worth documenting them all, and I thought whatever they said about Ardougne/Seers' Village was one of those things. Move the old mining revamp?[]

It takes up a substantial amount of room, and is highly unlikely to make it into the game, so would it be better to move it to its own page? 68.83.242.169 02:45, January 21, 2017 (UTC)

They did say they were going to reuse some of the original plans. I left all the old information on the page with the intention of cutting it down when we knew which things were dropped, but I'm still not sure what bits they are continuing with from what they've said so far.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by IsobelJ (talk) on 21 January 2017 at 10:21.

F2P Content[]

Fletching is planned to be made a F2P skill in the near future.

In addition, Silvarea/Paterdomus will be made a F2P content too. That means opening up Broken Home and A Soul's Bane.

Mining and smithing rework[]

We need to change many of the small things that were changed in the update post on reddit like ore bag has to smithed and will not spawn on its own and the latest map of new ore locations by Mod Stu

Samthefanboi (talk) 05:42, April 26, 2018 (UTC)

There's a currently a discussion going on to move the M&S rework to its own page since it's taking a loooot of space on this one, overhere: RuneScape:Requests for splitting/Upcoming updates. Which should also entail that it's gonna be updated, or at least should be. :P Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 19:09, April 26, 2018 (UTC)
Haven't been following the mining and smithing stuff that closely, but I can update it if you point me in the updated info on Reddit (or you can edit the page :P) Magic logs detailIsobelJTalk page 05:38, April 27, 2018 (UTC)

Add a "On the Backlog" section for updates that aren't in active design/development[]

Quite frankly its obvious alot of updates won't be seeing the light of day within the next year, but they are still on the backlog of projects Jagex could work on next, so we should have a section for those and move tons of these "future content" there. Things like Farming Timer, Seed Rework, new Abyssal Slayer creatures, Brimhaven Agility Arena, Off-hand Skilling items, Hostilius, Seers' Village graphical rework, Group Ironman, etc. Miraclegrass 14:18, July 17, 2018 (UTC)

You say it's obvious but they often don't give out anything to say an update isn't being developed anymore :P Every so often I try and get a source saying that an update isn't being worked on anymore. If something isn't being developed I'd rather not have it on the page at all (the list of back logged stuff could grow very long and many things would not end up becoming updates anyway). If anything does end up being worked on again the previous information can be found from the page history. I just haven't had chance to confirm anything for awhile, but if you get any sources on things not being worked on please go ahead and remove the update's section on here. Magic logs detailIsobelJTalk page 05:58, July 18, 2018 (UTC)
Its confirmed that both Bank Rework and Group Ironman mode are delayed behind RS Mobile, since engine work is required. Leave it in Upcoming updates? Its definitely not in active design/development, but its also (nearly) definite to come out in the future (assuming Reddit continues pushing for them). Miraclegrass 03:15, July 19, 2018 (UTC)
I'd say those should stay for now :) Magic logs detailIsobelJTalk page 09:31, July 19, 2018 (UTC)
