Proposal: Data on quantities of items needed to fill the urns

I think that it'd be nice to know how many pieces of an item you need to fill an urn. To start, we'll need some data. I've found out that one needs 46.666 iron ores for each standart Mining urn. Dontlietome7 15:47, February 15, 2011 (UTC)

100 accursed ashes to fill an infernal and 25 for an accursed urn. Carbonite 0 16:31, February 15, 2011 (UTC)

The article that this one has been proposed to be merged with already has a running list. Quest Darrik Ash US serv HS ALDarklight detail 19:47, February 15, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, but it's not accurate. And it's a thing that we need to research so we can produce results in a nice short table. User:Dontlietome7/Signatures 19:58, February 15, 2011 (UTC)
Guy, the urns have been out for less than half a day, nothing is going to be accurate at this point. And some of it is because I inputted the prayer part for Inferal Ashes. At least what is on pottery urn is a start. We can always build off that. Quest Darrik Ash US serv HS ALDarklight detail 20:02, February 15, 2011 (UTC)
Yea, but we need to get accurate info to make a formula. Your infernal urn entry seems to be accurate, but I'm unsure on the decorated mining urn. If it should take twice longer to fill with the same ore as normal, then it should be 93.333, not 100.
Pasting data from Pottery urns article (this might be inaccurate):
A decorated fishing urn last for 80 monkfish
A strong wooductting urn will last for 124 willow logs, 48 yew logs, or 52 eucalyptus logs.
A decorated mining urn lasts for 100 iron ores.
A smelting urn lasts for 20 mithril bars.
An Infernal urn is filled with 25 Infernal ashes.
A decorated cooking urn lasts for 37 sharks. And will give 1,547xp when activated.

The urns I've tried all give a 20% bonus. So they all fill up based on xp, not items processed. The xp required to fill them is 5x the xp awarded when teleporting them full. --User:Saftzie/Signature 22:16, February 15, 2011 (UTC)
You can mix up what you use to fill the urns (assuming what you use is still within the urns level range). A strong mining urn can be filled using coal and mithril, Coal fills it 3% and mithril fills it 5%. Same exp reward at the end just a different way to get it filled if you can't get mithril rocks to yourself. Carbonite 0 13:14, February 16, 2011 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for the info. Oh well, that means my fact about iron ores isn't exact... User:Dontlietome7/Signatures 13:37, February 16, 2011 (UTC)

Effective use of urns

I'm wondering, do you need to put a rune onto a prayer urn if you're going to use it in the ectofuncus?

We should add information on how to use urns effectively, but that would need some research.

From the description, I think you have the choice of gathering ashes by hand for use at the Ecto, or using the Urn for less XP but more convenience. If this Urn can be used F2P, it makes a huge difference for free players, and the ashes aren't a bad thing for members, either. But I won't be using the Urn unless you're right and I'm wrong, or I get Tarpal Cunnel or the DGADarns. -- TheLastWordSword 20:37, February 15, 2011 (UTC)
Smelting steel bars and up (except addy) is definately a good way to use the smelting urns, because you have the free space to carry an urn anyways. As a general rule though, the more often you have to visit the bank (a bank where you can retrieve stuff, not a deposit box), the more helpful the urn will be. Otherwise, you have to take time going to the bank to get another urn. Also, do smelting urns fill up when you're smithing?

Using multiple Urns

So, my access is very awkward and fragile, bear with me. I was using the high-level mining urns, and I had two in my inventory, one filling and one empty. I teleported the full one away with no problem. As the article is worded, this sounds like it can't happen, but it did. So now what? Nice work on the images, I couldn't keep up! (I did try, though!) :) -- TheLastWordSword 20:32, February 15, 2011 (UTC)

I also have 28 Accursed urns in my inventory right now, the first one filled right up and the second one started right away, but I did not teleport my first one. An error somewhere? --Crazye97 19:32, February 17, 2011 (UTC)

Are filling prayer urns a good way to earn exp?

For someone with little money, bringing a prayer urn and filling it on say a black demons task, is it a good way to train prayer? Or is it more valuable to just collect the ashes and just sell them AND then use the money to buy supplies and train it at your POH on gilded altar? (or possibly just keep the damn ashes you collect and use them later) Basically I am asking what is better exp:gp ratio? I know this is an early question to ask since dragon bones vs. ashes prices will have to settle first.

im guessing like every other thung of conveinince, your gonna wanna use on poh/ecto for max exp

If your looking for max experience then the urns are a waste. Infernal Ashes give a lot more experience at an alter or ecto than if you were to use them with an urn. However if you goal is to get a little bonus exp from doing say a 200 Black Demon task then you could always put a couple (8 Infernal urns would store 200 Black Demon ashes) in the bag and then transport them when they are full. My current Slayer assignment is Black Demons and I'm only getting about 12 to 16 ashes in the bag before I have to empty. I can get two Infernal urns per trip before I'm filled with junk. So if you want to work Slayer or collect Crimson charms while getting a little extra prayer exp then urns are for you. If you want to max experience your Prayer then don't bring urns.
As for if you should sell the ashes or not, that is discussion that should be better left with the Ashes themselves not the Urns. Quest Darrik Ash US serv HS ALDarklight detail 11:03, February 16, 2011 (UTC)

Urning a Living

There apparently is a tasked earned once you create your first urn from clay to adding the rune called 'Urning a Living'. I don't think it is part of any set, and apparently is in task limbo before and after you get it because I can't find any task set or even the beginner/miscellaneous set that lists it. Jagex doesn't mention it either in their post.

Yes, this happend to me and i also unlocked a sound track.. no sure if that relates to the task or not..  Marrioneetee (Talk) http://img802.imageshack.us/img802/7835/nyancaty.png   03:26, February 16, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, exactly the same happened to me, no music though User:Dontlietome7/Signatures 15:24, February 16, 2011 (UTC)

Linking pages

I added a link to the urns page from the free-to-play page at the bottom of the overview section. Please correct if this page is renamed. Thanks. 66.71.27.181 05:28, February 16, 2011 (UTC)

P.S. If I was to use this page I'd rather see "Bars up to and including mithril" rather than "Bars up to and including level 50". Level 50 is mithril if I remember correctly. 66.71.27.181 05:33, February 16, 2011 (UTC)

P.P.S. I was not clear on the use of urns. If I mine a piece of coal does it go in the urn and then is lost if I break the urn? This is based on "If you destroy an urn, all progress and bonus experience is lost. This is true even for ash holding prayer urns; if you destroy the urn the ashes disappear and are lost." If this is the case, then WHY would I want to break it to begin with? 66.71.27.181 05:36, February 16, 2011 (UTC)

No you get to keep the coal and the urn will fill up at the same time. Hunter cape (t) Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask 05:38, February 16, 2011 (UTC)
P.P.P.S. I'm stopping the use of P if this keeps up but..."I've found out that one needs 46.666 iron ores for each standart Mining urn." Does a better urn hold more ore? Example, does a cracked mining urn hold more tin than a mining urn and/or does a mining orn hold more tin than coal? 66.71.27.181 05:41, February 16, 2011 (UTC)
Yes it requires a certain amount of experience gained from mining rocks to fill up the urns and that amount increases with better urns. Hunter cape (t) Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask 05:44, February 16, 2011 (UTC)
Well, someone above found out that you need to get 5 times more xp than the urn awards to fill it. Meaning my number (46.666) isn't 100% accurate. User:Dontlietome7/Signatures 15:24, February 16, 2011 (UTC)

Questions

Do you have a chance at getting a rock when making urns?

Yes you can get strange rocks will having an urn in inventory. (expierienced)

Not sure if chances are changed but would think it is same as activity w/o urn24.128.168.125Blank

you misunderstod question do u get crafting rock for MAKING urns?

Hi-Alching

Hi alchemy on (r) urns yields 0gp. True 4 all (r) urns?

Very low hi alch values for other urns, based on the level needed to make, add hi alch table or simply advise against hi alching? 24.128.168.125Blank

So, how do they work?

I know that you earn more exp but I quit the game and not planning to create an account just to test out this update. Can anyone in detail tell how the urns work?

Do you keep the resources or do you basically give up the resources and "power level" that 20% boost? The page have a ton of info but lack the basic infomation which would be the reward and cost of using urns. It sound like you keep everything but the ashes with the prayer urns. 24.127.34.247 02:46, February 18, 2011 (UTC)

You pretty much got it, each resource that you collect, will fill the urn by a certain %, which differs based upon the type of urn, once it's full, you can then teleport the urn for an exp bonus. And you're also correct when saying that only the prayer urns actually take your resources, all the others allow you to keep the item you're collecting. I think the page about each of the specific urns has info about how many resources are needed and whatnot. Hope this helps a bit. =/ User:BerserkHackr/Signature 02:57, February 18, 2011 (UTC)
