[view][talk]

The Arc is a region within the Wushanko Isles, west of The Skull in the Archipelago, that is also visited in player-owned port. The first half of the Arc was released on 25 July 2016, and the second half was released on 10 October 2016.

Completing the Arc Journal and purchasing all permanent unlocks from both the Waiko and Ports Reward Shops unlocks the title Salty [Name] with the broadcast: World announcementNews: Player has fully explored what The Arc has to offer and has unlocked the 'Salty' title!

Getting there

The player must have completed the miniquest Impressing the Locals to access the Arc. They can then reach the first island in the Arc, Waiko, by chartering the ship Sarim's Revenge by talking to Mister Gully, who can be found opposite the pub at the north end of Port Sarim.

After the first time, any of the islands can be visited from any other island (or from Port Sarim).

The fastest way to the ship is by teleporting with the Arc Journal to Port Sarim. Other options, though slower, are teleporting with the Captain's log to the player-owned port in Port Sarim then exiting the portal, teleporting to the Port Sarim lodestone, or using the explorer's ring 3 to teleport to the cabbage patch.

Islands

There are seven destinations in the Arc:

Waiko, Aminishi, and Whale's Maw were added in the initial release of the Arc. Tuai Leit, Goshima, Cyclosis (for players who have unlocked access to the island in player-owned ports), and The Islands That Once Were Turtles were released in the second batch.

Waiko

Waiko

Waiko's trading district

Main article: Waiko

Waiko is the initial arrival point in the Arc, and serves as the main marketplace. Here, all resources gathered in the Arc can be sold for chimes, and supplies and upgrades can be purchased with chimes to make it easier to explore the Arc. Sojobo gives out contracts on this island.

Waiko primarily has bamboo resources, but also has fishing spots (bait fishing with a rod) containing tarpon and seerfish. Players can also steal from Waiko traders.

Whale's Maw

Whale's Maw

Whale's Maw's fishing district

Main article: Whale's Maw

Whale's Maw is a small island north-east of Waiko. It has a much smaller population than Waiko, and is primarily a fishing point. The western end of the island has a creeping population of tortles. Hubbub the Whaler gives out Fishing contracts on this island.

The fishing spots (net fishing) on Whale's Maw contain seerfish and sillago. The tortles can be caught for Hunter experience.

Aminishi

Aminishi

Aminishi

Main article: Aminishi

Aminishi features the Temple of Seiryu, which has an order of monks dedicated to it. The monks believe in repeated reincarnation to ascension, so are fightable in several forms up the slopes of the mountainous terrain of the island: first as humans (Sotapanna), then elementals (Sakadagami), and finally spirit Template:Noseos (Anagami). Ling the Assassin gives out Slayer contracts for these monsters on the island.

The Sakadagami and Anagami can drop spirit dragon charms, which can be used on the fountain in the middle of the island to access the spirit realm during and after the Spiritual Enlightenment miniquest. In the spirit realm, the final form of the ascended monks can be found on all levels of the mountain - Arhats. These are the most powerful form of the monks, which can drop Seiryu's claw, half of the mizuyari.

Tuai Leit

Tuai Leit

Tuai Leit

Main article: Tuai Leit

Tuai Leit is a centre of study in the eastern lands. On it, players can train Farming by harvesting rumberries and can cross pollinate their own berries through seeds found while training. Players can also earn a reward for catching all of the Kami spirits with Sensei Seaworth. Selling bamboo on this island results in more chimes per bamboo as well.

Goshima

Goshima

Goshima

Main article: Goshima

Goshima is the furthest east of the islands in the Arc. The inaccessible city of Gongdung is here. On the island players can harvest negative energy and gather mushrooms from mushroom clusters. However, players must also avoid the malignant entity, which can damage and kill them while training. However during the events of the Final Destination miniquest, the entity leaves the island.

The Islands That Once Were Turtles

The Islands That Once Were Turtles

Players can travel around using the tortle portal system. On these islands, players can find mushroom clusters to train Farming, as well as a dead moai spawning both positive and negative energy at once. Halia can be found here as well, and players can sell divination energy found in the Arc to her.

Cyclosis

Cyclosis is the home of the eastern Cyclopes. Players can harvest positive energy on this island, steal from cyclopes, and sell several items to traders.

In player-owned ports, Cyclosis is a hidden island which must be unlocked by completing a unique voyage to find it. Prior to this, it does not appear on the map.

Castaway islands

When exploring the Arc, messages in bottles can be found that contain treasure maps that lead to castaway islands. The available bottles vary depending on the day. Once the bottle is found and when the player was near a spawn location when the bottle was visible, it will be visible at all times, unless the message in a bottle or treasure map is in the player's bank or inventory.

Uncharted Isles

Main article: Uncharted Isles

The Uncharted Isles are procedurally generated islands which can be visited by Sarim's Revenge. Essentially everything about the islands is randomly generated, including:

  • Shape
  • Type of resources present
  • Amount of resources present
  • Monsters present
  • Additional rewards, like extra chimes or treasure chests

The only factor which the player can influence is the amount of rare resources on the island, with longer voyages resulting in more resources but costing more supplies:

  • Short junket: 0-1 rare resources, costs 5 supplies
  • Median expedition: 2-3 rare resources, costs 12 supplies
  • Long voyage: 3-5 rare resources, costs 20 supplies

Supplies can be purchased from Rosie at the Waiko market.

An island can be claimed with a flag, which allows it to be revisited for 3 supplies. Unclaimed islands cannot be revisited at all. Claimed islands can also be customised with items bought for chimes on Waiko from Boni's Waiko Reward Shop.

Resources and commodities

The Arc has several main resources, which can be traded in for the main currency, chimes, which in turn can be used to purchase upgrades and unlocks.

All Arc resources and commodities are untradeable. Crystallise cannot be used on any resource in the Arc.

The player requires the following levels to begin collecting resources and obtain chimes:

Chimes

Main article: Chimes

Chimes are the primary currency of the Arc. They can be earned and spent at the marketplace on Waiko. The main method to earn them is by selling the other resources to the relevant vendor.

Chimes can also be found in small piles on Uncharted Isles, with the maximum pile size being related to the size of the island.

Bamboo

Bamboo is cut on Waiko, requiring 90 Woodcutting, and giving 120 Woodcutting experience. Five sticks of bamboo can be fletched into a bundle, which are stackable and sell for more than the sticks (10 for the bundle and 1 for each stick), requiring 96 Fletching.

Uncharted Isles can contain normal bamboo or golden bamboo. Golden bamboo requires 96 Woodcutting to cut, gives 655.5 Woodcutting experience, and only requires 2 sticks to make a bundle.

Berries

Main article: /Berries

In the Arc, you can find and grow berries of various types:

Eating a berry provides temporary stat boosts. All berries can be sold to Terri (fruit merchant), found in the gnome encampment in western Tuai Leit, or to Sinuman (food merchant) on Cyclosis. Both stores pay the same.

Rumberries have a significant use outside trading as they're required in Tuai Leit's Own and are an ingredient for making Arc gumbo.

Discovering all the berries listed in the Arc Journal rewards the player with a Farming XP lamp given by Ani the Farming merchant on Tuai Leit.

Fish and oil

The fish can be caught on Waiko and Whale's Maw. Waiko provides only tarpon and seerfish, while Whale's Maw only provides seerfish and sillago. The fish can be cooked into fish oil from 91 Cooking.

  • Tarpon requires 90 Fishing to catch. At 91 Cooking, 9 can be cooked into Fish oil.
  • Seerfish requires 91 Fishing to catch. At 93 Cooking, 6 can be cooked into Fish oil.
  • Sillago requires 92 Fishing to catch. At 95 Cooking, 3 can be cooked into Fish oil.

In addition to the above fish, Uncharted Isles can also provide wobbegong. Wobbegong provides much more experience when caught, requiring 96 Fishing to catch. It can be cooked into wobbegong oil at 96 Cooking, using two of them per oil.

The fish can be cooked on any fire or range; there are unlocks that can be purchased to allow use of the grill on Waiko or the campfire on Whale's Maw, for easier cooking. Alternatively, a different unlock can be purchased for a deposit box next to a fishing spot on Whale's Maw, which may provide faster Cooking at a different range.

Tortles

Tortles are harmless, turtle-like creatures found on Whale's Maw. They can be hunted at 90 Hunter with a tortle trap, which harmlessly holds them in place to allow for collection of shell chippings. These can be crafted into a bowl at 91 Crafting.

Uncharted Isles can have ornate tortles, which can be hunted in the same way at 96 Hunter for shiny chippings and much more experience to make shiny bowls (at 92 Crafting).

On rare occasions, successful trappings may result in a tortle unearthing a Taijitu or chimes in the sand.

Wooden tortems

Small tortle-like structures found only on Uncharted Isles that provide Construction experience. Requires a minimum of 92 Construction. They do not require any materials on hand to repair. Players may receive contracts to repair a certain amount of tortems. They may spawn alone or in clusters.

Crablets and salt

Crablets are large crabs that have salt deposits grown on their back. While they are a monster, they are passive and can be mined like any mining node. All three variants can only be found on Uncharted Isles.

Salty crablets can be mined for sea salt at 91 Mining; alaea crablets can be mined for alaea sea salt at 97 Mining, which is golden in colour; and idol crablets can be mined for a golden idol at 98 Mining, which can be sold for a significant profit.

Salty Crabletines can be found on Cyclosis, but are less rewarding than their larger, uncharted cousins.

Spawnables

Several other items can spawn on Uncharted Isles:

Gumbo

Main articles: Arc gumbo and Shark soup

The final tier of commodity in the Arc is gumbo. Gumbo is created using most of the other resources at 94 Cooking. Each gumbo requires:

  • A bundle of bamboo
  • A rumberry
  • A tortle shell bowl
  • A chunk of sea salt
  • A drop of fish oil

This can then be cooked on a range or fire. Both the uncooked and cooked versions can be sold for chimes. The cooked version can also be eaten as a normal food.

Shark soup can be made by substituting in all of the 'golden' variants (if they exist), at 96 Cooking:

  • A bundle of bamboo
  • A portion of sliced mushrooms
  • A shiny tortle shell bowl
  • A chunk of alaea sea salt
  • A drop of wobbegong oil

Divine Energy

Divine energy can be found emanating from dead moai. Harvesting either negative energy or positive energy with the opposite in your inventory will consume it and result in ancestral energy.

Mushrooms

Mushrooms are now picked from a mushroom cluster, which can be found on Uncharted Isles, Goshima, and The Islands That Once Were Turtles. The types of mushrooms produced by the cluster vary depending on the Island they're harvested on. Most mushrooms require different amounts of the same type to create one sliced mushroom.

Arc Journal

Main article: Arc Journal

The Arc Journal is a book given to the player by Sharkborne on Waiko. It replaced The Arc: A Tourist's Guide. It tracks the player's activities in the Arc. Completing the activities in the Journal awards the player with the title [Name] the Voyager.

Most of the sections are explained elsewhere in this page - Berries, Mushrooms, Castaways, Miniquests.

Birds of the Arc

Main article: The Arc/Birds

While in the Arc players can spot birds on both named islands and the Uncharted Isles. Some birds only spawn on certain days or while doing certain skilling activities. Spotting them all rewards players with a bird pet called Iago.

Kami Spirits of the Arc

Main article: Kami

Like implings on the main land, the Arc has kami which can be caught in the Arc. Bakami are caught on named islands and orokami are caught on the Uncharted Isles. Loot ranges from regular and island resources to Orokami masks. Catching all kami once rewards the player with the ability to choose either double loot or triple experience for catching a kami similar to Daffyd's reward for catching all implings at least once.

Contracts

Each day up to three contracts can be completed for either Sojobo on Waiko, Hubbub on Whale's Maw, or Ling on Aminishi. These may be for any of the Arc resources or any of the Slayer monsters on Aminishi. Completing a contract gives a bulk amount of chimes and experience when completed and turned in to their respective master. The resources gathered are not turned in.

Unwanted contracts can be re-rolled for an increasing number of chimes. The overall effect of working on an appropriate contract grants a total of approximately 15-35% more experience than working without one.[1]

The maximum number contracts can be increased by buying the appropriate unlock.

Players that have unlocked the relevant adventurer in their player-owned port can receive skill-specific contracts - Ling on Aminishi gives exclusively Slayer contracts, and Hubbub on Whale's Maw gives exclusively Fishing contracts.

Unlocks

Main article: Boni (rewards)

Boni on Waiko sells unlocks and upgrades for the Arc. Most of her items cost both chimes and taijitu.

Her upgrades include:

  • Increasing the amount of chimes that can be earned each day (starts at 20,000 chimes)
  • Increasing the maximum number of supplies (starts at 200 supplies)
  • Increasing the maximum number of contracts per day (starts at 3 contracts)
  • Reducing the cost of supplies (starts at 25 chimes)
  • Increasing the amount commodities can be sold for
  • A grill on Waiko
  • A campfire and deposit box on Whale's Maw
  • An upgrade to contract rerolls

She also sells several other items:

Finally, she sells all port resources and trade goods for use in the player's player-owned port.

Trivia

  • Most of the islands in this region, except for the Cyclosis, share their shapes and sizes with a major island of the real-life Hawai'ian Islands. Tuai Leit is shaped like Kaua'i, Whale's Maw like Ni'ihau, Goshima like O'ahu, the island north of Aminishi like Kaho'olawe, and the eastern island of The Islands That Once Were Turtles like Moloka'i.
  • The Arc was decided upon as the subject of a game-world expansion after winning a RuneLabs poll in December 2015.[2] A poll in January 2016 for ideas for activities to take place in the Arc was won by a suggestion for a new Slayer/combat area.[3] From February to April 2016 Runelabs' subject was "Eastern Lands brainstorm": the team selected from the suggested ideas concepts which were feasible to include in the update.
