Walkthrough

Gnome Village Dungeon

  • Take a Spirit Tree to Tree Gnome Village and talk to the king. The king has acquired a new pet Dumpling, an evil watcher creature, but he won't believe that the creature is evil. The king recommends to look underground for a local gnome who might keep old artifacts of elven nature.
  • Leave village by south west fence and go down into cave. Talk to Golrie in west part of cave. He tells you to search some crates for some elven artifacts. Go through the exit in the east storeroom. Push the big monoliths aside and go search all crates and chests in that area for key and crystals. The last is the mahogany chest which contains a strongroom key.
  • Use the strongroom key on gate west of the room with the monoliths.
  • In that room is a machine that needs to expose the cute and fuzzy companion of the king as a black and evil bug thingy.

The Machine

The machine operates on the principle of matching shapes of equal value. The value is determined by the color of an item and by the number of its sides. The machine has two operataing panels. The right panel exchanges tokens. This exchange mechanism is following the rules explained below. The right panel is the puzzle that needs solving. Insert the tokens such that they match the tokens shown by the machine.

Each color of crystal has a numerical value.

Colour Sides multiplier
Red 1
Orange 2
Yellow 3
Green 4
Blue 5
Indigo 6
Violet 7

The number of sides of the shape times the color number to get actual value. (Yellow is 3, so a yellow triangle is 3 times 3 giving a value of nine)

In the machine, you have to place a crystal of equal value to what you are shown.

If in the top section you see a red square and a blue square the total value is 24 (4 for red sq and 20 for blue square) so you need a single crystal worth 24, which is an indigo square (4 times 6).

Healing a Spirit Tree

  • After completing the puzzle, talk to the king and kill the critter (1 hp). Talk to king again to be sent to talk to Aluft Gianne at the Grand Tree.
  • Use the spirit tree to the Grand Tree, take 4 toad legs and go talk to Aluft Gianne jr who is standing in the north western part of the first floor. He wants you to deliver a dish to the coordinates 2 degrees 7 minutes south and 3 degrees 7 minutes west. Make the Toad Leg dish. Everything except 4 toad legs can be bought at Hudo's store.
  • The co-ordinates are behind Castle Wars. Go out doors and south, then a ways west along water to get there. Use crossbow and grapple to cross. Talk to Longramble there and he'll take the toad tasties before sharing his findings regarding the sewer.
  • On the way to the sewer entrance is a dying spirit tree. Talk to the tree and Hazelmere will show up to dis you, but eventually will provide a way to heal the sick tree.
  • Teleporrt back to a bank and take your crystal saw. Now go back to Glorie's cave. Return to the storeroom with the monoliths and use the saw on the Singing bowl. The first use will turn the saw back into a seed. The next use will change it to chimes.
  • Teleport back to Castle wars and prepare for battle before heading back out. Bring mith grapple, crossbow, and chime in addition to the combat supplies.
  • Use the chime on the sick spirit tree to make it healthy again. The tree will remove its roots.

The Battle

File:Tpog battle.png

  • After healing the spirit tree, go into sewer. Take the long walk through the sewer to the end. At the end of the long and winding sewer you'll get to the end room where three 143 warped terrorbird monsters need to be killed. All monsters in the sewer can only be killed after using the crystal chime on them first. This turns them into a slightly different colour and you can attack them. Be aware that the "vulnerability" wears off after a short time. When it wears off, your attacking will be paused. Note that you cannot teleport away from the final room. So be close to the entrance which serves as an emergency escape. Food is recommended during the battle. Prayer can help against the monster's longer distance attack, but note that the monsters also have a melee style attack. So bring food and potions. Staying close to the door also has the advantage that only a single monster will attack with melee. So with Protect from Missiles prayer, take on the closest monster and kill it, before taking on the next one. Multiple uses of the chime is needed for defeating a single monster.
  • After killing the three monsters, peek through the door on the other side and enjoy a long and remarkable animation which ends in Hazelmere's tower.
  • Talk one more time to Hazelmere to complete the quest.

Trivia

  • On the day of release, if you clicked to see the rewards of the quest it said, "Quest spoilers will not be released until we can convince Hazelmere to give them up. Please try again tomorrow."
  • When talking to the Spirit Tree, it will call you the "Tree Whisperer", similar to the TV show, "The Dog Whisperer".
  • While talking to Longramble, you talk about a magical force that holds you down and Long Ramble replies "Gravity of the situation" a pun because grativy is what keeps us down.
  • Gianne Jr. mentions that he couldn't find the coordinates of the delivery to Longrable the explorer on Doogle Maps (since his maps are written on dried doogle leaves). This is a reference to Google Maps.
  • When a player meets Longramble, they will ask him, "Mr Longramble, I presume?". It is a reference to the quotation "Dr Livingstone, I presume?", when H. M. Stanley met with David Livingstone in Tanzania.
  • A glitch was reported on a forum in which a player received the rewards multiple times after going back to kill the 143 monster; glitch was soon fixed.
  • After the battle the Big Red button features in the cut sccene. The button represents a self contradiction. Pushing the button solves a situation but at a significant expense which often does not justify the use of the button.

Possible extensions

After the boss battle, Hazelmere mentions of visions of the future when eight will venture out to fight Zamorak, but only two will return, one being a warrior and one a slayer. It may be linked to the player poll, in which players were asked whether they would mind if one of the NPCs ventured out for a quest, and did not return.
