This article explains some strategies to kill Tormented demons. They are level 450 monsters, and are currently the eleventh strongest monsters in RuneScape. They are considered more difficult to defeat than many other monsters because of the concentration required.

In order to defeat Tormented Demons, a player has to change between prayer and weapons according to the Tormented demon's attack style, prayer and defence.

Getting there

Items needed: Sapphire lantern

To get to the Ancient Guthix Temple, you must navigate through the Lumbridge Swamp Caves. The best way to enter these caves is from the Lumbridge Castle's basement. Enter the Tears of Guthix cavern, and ride a Light creature to the lower level - a Sapphire lantern is required for this. Having a second sapphire lantern in your bank is an advantage in case you die and need to travel back to loot your grave.

Strategy

Tormented demons can use protection prayers against all attack styles. It also has four attacks: Melee, Ranged, Magic and multi-target Magic. All attacks are capable of hitting up to 269 life points. The demons usually use magic first, then change attack style after around six rounds of attacks. The multi-target attack will only be used once in a row. However, the demon will instantly switch to another attack style, which could result in a combo hit of two 269's - keep your life points over 600 just in case.

Luring the demons

There are about 8 Tormented demons in the area and all of them are capable of reaching each other. It's extremely dangerous to be attacked by multiple demons, so luring them is important to begin a fight. If two or more demons do start attacking you, then you have three choices.

  • Run to giant rock door you opened in While Guthix Sleeps and make them lose attention on you. (Shown in photo above.)
  • Run away, then switch to a different world.
  • Run away, log out and log back in again.

Killing the demons

As you finish luring the demon so other demons can't attack you while you're fighting, first take down their fire shield first as its necessary to kill it. Tormented demons always have Protect from Melee prayer on at first, so you'll have to use ranged until it changes its prayer. Then you can use the Darklight and take down the shield. The fire shield will restore after about 60 seconds and message will show up in you dialogue box showing the demon has restored its fire shield. Hitting the Demon while the shield is down with a Darklight WILL reset the counter for the shield.

The tormented demon will change its protection prayer after receiving 310 damage from one attack style, so you'll need to change your weapon. If you deal 0 damage, it counts as 20 damage to the damage counter.

The tormented demons usually attack with magic at first, so if you stand in the safe spot when demons still have their attention on you, their multi-target spell can go through the pillar or wall and damage you.

It takes about 3 minutes and 30 seconds to run back to the demons, so a gravestone standing four minutes or longer is recommended in case of death.

Keep an eye on these

  • Your own Protection prayer
  • Your attack style and the demon's prayer
  • Your life points and Prayer points
  • Other demons' locations
