Speaking of being trapped, as of July 4, 2011, many worlds have one of the new [[Citadel]] ruins on top of a tortured soul spawn point effectively creating a tortured soul you can not attack. If you do attempt to attack it, even with ranged or magic, you receive a "You can't reach that" message. |

Tortured souls are ghostly apparitions which can be found north of the Ectofuntus and west of Port Phasmatys, outside the city walls. Their appearance, location, name and speech imply that they are outcasts from Port Phasmatys who, being trapped between life and death due to the actions of Necrovarus (rectified by the player during Ghosts Ahoy), have lost their minds. When killed they sometimes say, rather ironically, "You cannot defeat the undead, mortal!"
Speaking of being trapped, as of July 4, 2011, many worlds have one of the new Citadel ruins on top of a tortured soul spawn point effectively creating a tortured soul you can not attack. If you do attempt to attack it, even with ranged or magic, you receive a "You can't reach that" message.
As they are a type of ghost, they can be used as a higher level substitute on ghost Slayer tasks assigned by Turael/Spria and Mazchna. Since Tortured Souls are undead, the Salve amulet is effective against them.
While the normal ghosts had their sounds updated, the Tortured Souls still use the old ghost sounds.
