Training bow was removed from RuneScape after an update, but still exists in-game for those who had obtained it.
The training bow is a beginner ranged weapon that has been discontinued and is currently unavailable to use unless already owned. It was originally obtained from the ranged combat tutor located in Lumbridge, and later available for purchase from Beefy Bill for 55 coins. The ranged combat tutor now instead recommends getting a free longbow or shortbow from Lowe's shop in Varrock. The item is not dropped upon death.
Training arrows are the only arrows that can be used with this bow. These were also available from Beefy Bill for eight gold a piece, but they too have been discontinued.
A training bow has the same stats as a normal shortbow or longbow. It is recommended to use the regular Shortbow or Longbow, for the use of iron arrows.
This bow was a good option for newer players because both it and the training arrows that it used were free. The ranged combat tutor gave any player a free set consisting of 30 training arrows and a training bow. However, once a set of training bow and arrows had been acquired, the player would have to wait at least 30 minutes before the tutor would give him/her another set. When the 30 minutes have expired, the tutor could have given the player more arrows, but she would only give out another bow if the previous one was lost or destroyed. Some players took advantage of this and would drop one bow then ask for another so that they could get two and keep one in their bank in case they died.
When the bow was made available again after being made temporarily discontinued, players who attempted to drop it found a Destroy message saying that you may claim it back from the Ranged tutor even though she does not give them out any more. The Training arrows, Training sword and Training shield also suffered this bug. This has been fixed.
All Training items were permanently discontinued and replaced with new "free sample" items upon the introduction of new shop interfaces, effectively making all training items rare (albeit untradeable) items for players to show off, as they still exist in-game.
