Starting the miniquest[]

  • Lookout Ekahi: Captain, it is time for us to go after Jed.
  • (Miniquest noticeboard opens.)
    • Accept
      • Player: Why now? What's changed?
      • Lookout Ekahi: I have seen how you carry yourself, and judge you to be worthier than Jed. He is a bad man, but you are a good person.
      • Lookout Ekahi: But you must promise me that you will not kill Jed. My actions cannot result in his death. He spared my life once; now I must spare his. Will you agree to this?
        • Yes, I promise.
          • Lookout Ekahi: I will hold you to that promise, captain.
          • Lookout Ekahi: Jed instructed me to contact him only once I had killed you, so first we must fake your death.
          • Bosun Higgs: Hey, are we finally going after Jed? If so, I need to be better prepared first.
          • Lookout Ekahi: After that, he would send me a location to rendezvous with him, deep in the uncharted isles.
          • Navigator Jemi: Oh, and captain, if we're heading far north, I have some troubling news you need to hear first too.
          • Lookout Ekahi: There is a chance he will still have the people he kidnapped from Port Sarim.
          • Quartermaster Gully: Aye, and we'll need to prepare the Revenge to take on a lot of passengers - she's not built fer it.
          • Player: Well, it sounds like I have a lot to do, doesn't it? Let's deal with these things one at a time. I'll talk to each of you individually.
          • (Dialogue terminates.)
        • No, I can't promise that.
          • Lookout Ekahi: Until you can make me that promise, captain, I cannot tell you how to find Jed.
          • (Dialogue terminates.)
    • Decline
      • (Dialogue terminates.)

Helping Lookout Ekahi[]

Talking to Lookout Ekahi[]

First time[]

  • Player: So, Ekahi, how should we go about faking my death?
  • Lookout Ekahi: Jed has people everywhere. Do you recall who set you up with a work crew to transport the moai head?
  • Player: Wait, Yuehanxun works for Jed?
  • Lookout Ekahi: If she sees you die, she will contact Jed of my mission's success, then he will send me rendezvous coordinates so he can give me my next task.
  • Player: Okay, next time I go talk to her, you pretend to kill me.
  • Lookout Ekahi: Eye, captain.

Second time[]

  • Lookout Ekahi: Ready when you are, captain. Just go talk to Yuehanxun in south-east Waiko and I'll be right behind you.

Next to Yyehanxun[]

  • Lookout Ekahi: Talk to Yuehanxun, captain.

Talking to Yuehanxun the Dealer[]

  • Yuehanxun the Dealer: Looking for something? Or someone?
  • Player: Drop the act - I know you're a spy for Jed.
  • Yuehanxun the Dealer: Huh, so this dopey cyclops is even more useless than I thought.
  • Lookout Ekahi: I am not useless!
  • Lookout Ekahi "stabs" the player.
  • Player: Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!
  • Player "dies".
  • Lookout Ekahi: There! It is done! I had to pretend friendship to catch them unaware.
  • Lookout Ekahi: Now, go tell Jed I am ready for new orders.
  • Yuehanxun: Hmm, I suppose I can't argue with that. Expect rendezvous coordinates from Jed soon.
  • Yuehanxun the Dealer teleports away.

Talking to Cap'n Ekahi[]

  • Cap'n Ekahi:[sic] Are you okay, captain?
  • Player: Nothing a long soak in a warm bath can't fix. Good job, Ekahi.

Talking to Lookout Ekahi at the docks[]

  • Player: Has Jed sent you the rendezvous yet?
  • Lookout Ekahi: Not yet, but I expect he will have by the time you've helped the rest of the crew.

Helping Bosun Higgs[]

Talking to Bosun Higgs[]

First time[]

  • Bosun Higgs: It's about time we went after Jed! But...
  • Player: But what?
  • Bosun Higgs: Now it comes to it, I don't feel ready.
  • Player: How so? You always seem ready for a scrap.
  • Bosun Higgs: I've been keeping something from you. I didn't think it was important, or even your business, but I was wrong. You're my captain, you should know.
  • Bosun Higgs: My commander - when I asked her to give me leave to find my brother, she refused.
  • Player: How did you persuade her to let you come?
  • Bosun Higgs: I didn't. I'm AWOL. If the Kinshra track me down here, they might hold you responsible too.
  • Player: How could you be so reckless, Evie? You've put all of us at risk.
  • Bosun Higgs: I wasn't thinking straight! I have to get Jacob back, he's the only family I've got left.
  • Bosun Higgs: But shirking my duty like that, I'm no Kinshra. I have no right to wear this uniform anymore.
  • Bosun Higgs: Besides that, it makes me easy to spot if anyone comes looking for me.
  • Player: So you need some new armour and weapons?
  • Bosun Higgs: Wait, you're not kicking me off the crew?
  • Player: Not until we've got your brother back, at least. Any ideas?
  • Bosun Higgs: That Tengu bloke in Waiko market has some sweet gear - I bet he could help.

Second time[]

  • Bosun Higgs: Have you spoken to that Tengu bloke on Waiko yet?
  • Player: I'm working on it.

Talking to Sojobo (contracts)[]

  • Sojobo (contracts): Looking for work? I have contracts for you to complete in this region, and I'll reward you for them.
  • Player: Hello, Sojobo. I don't suppose you could spare some melee armour and weapons for a friend of mine?
  • Sojobo (contracts): Charity is at the heart of the Gu way of life, but that works both ways. If you could but help me, then you would also help yourself.
  • Player: What do I need to do?
  • Sojobo (contracts): You seek armour and weapons, and I seek to remove such from the hands of the underserving[sic]. These islands are filled with ronin Gu warriors, masterless rogues no longer following the Way of Gu.
  • Sojobo (contracts): They serve only the Eleventh Way, the way of selfishness. If you track down and defeat three such Gu ronin for me within the uncharted islands, I shall gift you with what you seek.
  • Player: Gu ronin. Uncharted islands. I'll get right on that.

Killing the Gu ronin[]

  • You have defeated X/3 Gu ronin for the Tengu.

Returning to Sojobo (contracts)[]

  • Sojobo (contracts): Looking for work? I have contracts for you to complete in this region, and I'll reward you for them.
  • Player: I have defeated three Gu ronin in battle.
  • Sojobo (contracts): The Gu thank you for your contribution.
  • Sojobo (contracts): Please, take this along with our gratitude.

Talking to Sojobo (contracts) again[]

  • Sojobo (contracts): Looking for work? I have contracts for you to complete in this region, and I'll reward you for them.
  • (If the player destroyed the tetsu set:)
    • Player: I've lost that tetsu set you gave me.
    • Sojobo (contracts): If you lose this one, I shall prank you so bad!
    • (Dialogue terminates.)
  • (If the player still has the tetsu set:)
    • Sojobo (contracts): I hope that your friend appreciates your gift of Gu.
    • (Dialogue terminates.)

Returning to Bosun Higgs[]

  • Bosun Higgs: Have you spoken to that Tengu bloke on Waiko yet?
  • (If the player destroyed the tetsu set:)
    • Player: Oh, I had something for you, but destroyed it. I'll get another from the Tengu.
    • (Dialogue terminates.)
  • (If the player has the tetsu set:)
    • Player: Actually, yes, I have. Here you go, Evie...
    • Bosun Higgs: Tetsu armour? Dual katanas? Sweet!
    • Bosun Higgs: No leering while I get changed.
    • Player: I wouldn't!
    • Quartermaster Gully: She doesn't mean you, captain. Cover your eye, Steven!
    • Screen fades to black as Bosun Higgs gets changed.

Talking to Bosun Higgs after getting the armour[]

  • (Non-miniquest dialogue.)

Helping Navigator Jemi[]

Talking to Navigator Jemi[]

First time[]

  • Player: So, what's the news I need to hear, Jemi?
  • Navigator Jemi: I've been communing with Umi and the sea creatures.
  • Player: How's that?
  • Navigator Jemi: I'm a seasinger, it's kind of what we do.
  • Player: But Port Sarim is miles away.
  • Navigator Jemi: Oh, that's nothing. Wherever we are in the world, sirens from the same pod can hear each other's song. It's how we communicate.
  • Navigator Jemi: Anyway, she told me that the Thalassus has been spotted, heading east towards the Arc. It might already be here.
  • Player: Okay, that's not good, but how is this a problem?
  • Navigator Jemi: Not a problem, an opportunity.
  • Navigator Jemi: If you take me to see Sea Witch Kaula on Whale's Maw, I think I could commune with it, get it to help us out.
  • Player: Do we need its help?
  • Navigator Jemi: Well, the Sarim's Revenge has no guns. If things go wrong and we get into a fight with Jed, all we can do is try to outrun him.
  • Player: The Revenge is fast; she's built for speed.
  • Navigator Jemi: Not if she's full of rescued prisoners, she isn't.
  • Player: Hmm, I see your point. Some extra help can't hurt. I'll stop by Kaula soon.

Second time[]

  • Navigator Jemi: Can we go see Kaula on Whale's Maw soon?

Talking to Sea Witch Kaula[]

  • Navigator Jemi: Kaula, might I request your assistance?
  • Sea Witch Kaula: What is it, seasinger?
  • Navigator Jemi: I've sensed the Thalassus in this region, and was hoping I could commune with it to see if it might help us.
  • Sea Witch Kaula: So do that, you don't need me.
  • Navigator Jemi: It's not listening to me, I've tried. I mean no disrespect, but from my understanding it will listen to you.
  • Sea Witch Kaula: So you know of me. My reputation precedes me.
  • Player: What reputation?
  • Navigator Jemi: Not now, captain. Please, leave this to me.
  • Sea Witch Kaula: There's a price; there's always a price. Bring me two tortoise shell bowls, made from the tortoises on this island, and I will help.

Talking to Navigator Jemi at the docks[]

  • Navigator Jemi: Let's go finish the ritual with Kaula, captain.

Returning to Sea Witch Kaula[]

  • (If the player does not have the tortle shell bowls:)
    • Sea Witch Kaula: Where are my two tortle shell bowls?
    • (Dialogue terminates.)
  • (If the player has the tortle shell bowls:)
    • Player: I'm not sure what deal you're making here, Kaula, but here are your bowls.
    • Navigator Jemi: It'll be alright, captain, don't worry.
    • Kaula turns toward the horizon, holding the bowls out in front of her, one in each hand, then begins the sing. You do not understand even the meaning of this song's lyrics, but a series of violent images flash in your mind. As her song finishes, Kaula crushes the bowls into dust.
    • Sea Witch Kaula: It is done. The price has been set. The Thalassus will hear your words now, seasinger.

Talking to Navigator Jemi[]

  • Navigator Jemi: Thank you, Kaula. It is answering my call.
  • Sea Witch Kaula: Do not thank me yet, seasinger.
  • Player: Well, this doesn't sound at all portentous.
  • Navigator Jemi: Don't worry, captain. I'll start communing with the Thalassus. Talk to me back at the ship.

Talking to Navigator Jemi at the ship[]

First time[]

  • Player: Are you all set with the Thalassus, Jemi?
  • Navigator Jemi: I think so. It's very angry, though not with us, so it said it will follow our ship.
  • Player: Oh, well, that's...er, comforting? I guess.

Subsequent times[]

  • (Non-miniquest dialogue.)

Helping Quartermaster Gully[]

Talking to Quartermaster Gully[]

First time[]

  • Player: Okay, Gully, so how do we prepare the Sarim's Revenge to take on lots of passengers?
  • Quartermaster Gully: We'll need to travel light on supplies and empty out the hold, then add some extra buoyancy to the ship.
  • Player: This sounds like something the ship chandler in Waiko market could help with.
  • Quartermaster Gully: Er, yes, you go talk to Rosie. Tell her, I...actually, never mind. I'll just clear out the hold.

Second time[]

  • Quartermaster Gully: Did Rosie ask after me?
  • Player: Hold you[sic] seahorses, Gully. I'm still dealing with that.

Talking to Rosie (supplies)[]

  • Player: Hey, Rosie, my quartermaster thinks you might be able to suggest a way to make our ship a bit more buoyant.
  • Rosie (supplies): Yeah, sure, I can do that - I just need a few materials.
  • Rosie (supplies): Oh, but wait, your quartermaster - that's that Gully fellow, isn't it? Yeah, I'll also need for you to get him to stop loitering around here if he's not buying anything.
  • Player: Oh, that. Yeah, I think he has a crush on you or something?
  • Rosie (supplies): Really? Then why doesn't he just talk to me? He just hangs around, that seagull of his pooping everywhere.
  • Player: Steven.
  • Rosie (supplies): Excuse me?
  • Player: The seagull - it's called Steven.
  • Rosie (supplies): Okay, then, Steven.
  • Player: Okay, I'll have a word with him.
  • Rosie (supplies): Why would you have a word with the seagull?
  • Player: Not the seagull, my quartermaster - I'll talk to him about the loitering. What materials do you need?
  • Rosie (supplies): I'll need ten pieces of driftwood, a taijitu, and five wushrooms. You'll find all of those in the uncharted islands.

Returning to Rosie (supplies)[]

  • (If the player does not have the materials:)
    • Rosie (supplies): I'll need ten pieces of driftwood, a taijitu, and five wushrooms. You'll find all of those in the uncharted islands.
    • (Dialogue terminates.)
  • (If the player has the materials:)
    • Player: I have those materials you needed...but I'm not sure how mushrooms help a boat float higher in the water.
    • Rosie (supplies): They don't. They're for my personal use. The taijitu is to pay me for my time.
    • Rosie (supplies): I'll just be treating the driftwood with my super secret Roseal lacquer, which your quartermaster should attach below your ship's waterline, and you're golden.
    • Player: Okay then, here you go.
    • Rosie (supplies): And there you go. Pleasure doing business with you.
    • (Dialogue terminates.)

Talking to Rosie again[]

  • (If the player destroyed the buoyancy materials:)
    • Player: I've lost that buoyancy kit you gave me.
    • Rosie (supplies): Don't lose this one!
    • (Dialogue terminates.)
  • (If the player still has the buoyancy materials:)
    • Rosie (supplies): Now, go and have words with that quartermaster of yours!
    • (Dialogue terminates.)

Returning to Quartermaster Gully[]

First time[]

  • Quartermaster Gully: Did Rosie ask after me?
  • Player: Um, after a fashion. She asked me why you were so weird around her.
  • Quartermaster Gully: I'll take it!
  • (If the player destroyed the buoyancy materials:)
    • Player: Oh, I had something for you, but destroyed it. I'll get another from Rosie.
    • (Dialogue terminates.)
  • (If the player has the buoyancy materials:)
    • Player: You can take this too.
    • Quartermaster Gully: From Rosie? She...she touched this? I'll get on the installation right away, cap'n!
    • Player: And would you stop loitering by her stall, or at least talk to her?
    • (Dialogue terminates.)

Subsequent times[]

  • (Non-miniquest dialogue.)

Finale[]

Talking to Lookout Ekahi[]

  • Player: Has Jed sent you the rendezvous yet?
  • Lookout Ekahi: Yes, captain. Let's go after Jed!
  • Head out to sea?
    • Yes.
      • Screen fades to black and back in at sea.
    • No.
      • (Dialogue terminates.)

Talking to Navigator Jemi on the ship[]

  • Player: Good job getting us here, Jemi. Is the Thalassus close?
  • Navigator Jemi: Thank you, and yes, it is. It's odd, though.
  • Player: How so?
  • Navigator Jemi: I'm not sure. I mean, it's listening to me, but it feels like it's holding something back too.

Talking to Mister Gully on the ship[]

  • Mister Gully:[sic] The Revenge is primed ready to sail off at a moment's notice, cap'n.
  • Mister Gully: If anything goes wrong, me 'n' Jemi will get us out of here.

Talking to Bosun Higgs on the ship[]

  • Bosun Higgs: Where's this Iron Link at, then? My blades are ready!
  • Player: Remember, we can't kill him. I promised Ekahi for one.
  • Bosun Higgs: I can only promise that I won't kill him BEFORE I get my brother back.
  • Player: Not even after! He has to see justice.
  • Bosun Higgs: Hmph, I suppose I'd enjoy the irony of him ending up in my brother's old cell back in Port Sarim.
  • Player: Good.

Talking to Flipper McGraw on the ship[]

  • Player: So, what would a fixer do in this situation?
  • Flippers McGraw: Er, I dunno, really.
  • Player: Remind me again why I brought you on board?
  • Flippers McGraw: Um...completionism,[sic] maybe?

Talking to Lookout Ekahi on the ship[]

  • Player: Are you ready, Ekahi?
  • Lookout Ekahi: I will be. Thank you for trusting me, captain.
  • Lookout Ekahi: I want you to know that, no matter what I say to Jed, I am with you.
  • Player: Will he be here soon?
  • Lookout Ekahi: Yes, captain. I see his sail on the horizon. You should all get ready.
  • Are you ready to face Jed?
    • Yes.
      • Screen fades to black and returns next to Jed's ship.
    • No.
      • (Dialogue terminates.)

Encounter with Jed[]

  • Jed: Ahoy there, Ekahi. How's tricks?
  • Lookout Ekahi: Ah, hello, captain.
  • Jed: No need to be so formal, friend. You're my buddy, my mascot, yeah!
  • Lookout Ekahi: I owe you my life.
  • Jed: Yes, yes, very good. Now, what news do you have for me?
  • Lookout Ekahi: The adventurer known as Player has been dealt with.
  • Jed: Dead I hope, not just 'dealt with'.
  • Lookout Ekahi: Your agent saw with her own eyes.
  • Jed: Yes, she told me what she saw. I want to hear it from you. You've always been honest with me, right? Are you being honest now?
  • Lookout Ekahi: I have taken their ship as a prize.
  • Jed: I can see! Very good. That's not answering the question, though, is it, my old chum?
  • Lookout Ekahi: I...I...
  • Jed: Hahaha! Not to worry, I'm just pulling your chain, friend. Come aboard! We have to plan what's next for you!
  • Jed: Besides, our buyers will be joining us soon. I'll need your help unloading our 'cargo'.
  • Lookout Ekahi: Buyers?
  • Jed: Of course - 'two birds, one stone' and all that. Meet you, meet them, sell the goods. The Harbinger will be arriving post-haste.
  • Lookout Ekahi: The Harbinger? Captain, why would you trade these...innocents to THAT ship?
  • Jed: A chime is a chime is a chime, and many chimes are music to my ears.
  • Lookout Ekahi: But captain, nobody deserves such a cruel fate!
  • Jed: Ah, but they've paid in advance, which is why I needed that meddling Player dead. Can't risk messing this one up or we'll ALL be joining her crew. Chin up, I'm not selling you.
  • Player jumps out from hiding spot.
  • Player: Jed!
  • Jed: Not quite as dead as you led on, Ekahi. Naughty, naughty. You lied to me, and I thought we were friends.
  • Lookout Ekahi: I owed you my life, but you spent that when you asked me to kill for you.
  • Lookout Ekahi: Player spared my life, and so now my life debt is to them.
  • Jed: Aww, you betrayed me. No matter, I was going to sell your life to The Harbinger anyway, along with the rest of my cargo, so it's no skin off my nose.
  • Bosun Higgs reveals herself.
  • Bosun Higgs: No, but I'll skin your nose if I don't get my brother back!
  • Jed: Who's that, then, dear? I don't know you, sorry.
  • Bosun Higgs: He'd be the Black Knight you kidnapped from Port Sarim!
  • Jed: Ah, sorry to disappoint, my lady, but he's sold already. The khan of Goshima took a shine to him, what can I say? She does like them military types.
  • Quartermaster Gully: Aye, and what about Trader Stan's stolen property, lad?
  • Jed: Oh, yes...that! Ha! Now, that IS embarrassing for old Stan, isn't it? To find something like THAT on my new ship - gave the boys a right chuckle.
  • Jed: Yeah, no, I gave that to the khan of Goshima too, as something of a peace offering. Wow, poor Stan.
  • Jed: Anyway, I would just love to stay and chat, but The Harbinger will be here any minute, and I really must dash.
  • Player: Wait, you're running again? To where? We're at open sea!
  • Jed: There's a lovely little island over there. I'd rather be marooned than to have failed my buyers.
  • Jed: I'll leave your eclectic crew of miscreants to welcome them. I'm sure they'll be most accommodating.
  • Jed: Toodles!
  • Jed starts walking away.
  • Navigator Jemi: No wait, you can't!
  • Jed turns around.
  • Jed: Just watch me!
  • Player runs towards Jed.
  • Navigator Jemi: I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to the...
  • The Thalassus eats Jed as he dives off his ship.
  • Player: Thalassus!

Lines heard from the hold[]

  • (One of the following appears randomly:)
    • Get us out of here!
    • I miss my mum!
    • Prison is better than this!
    • (The following appear in succession:)
      • Take us back!
      • Take us back to Port!
      • Sarim!
    • We want to go home!

Aftermath[]

Talking to Bosun Higgs on the ship[]

  • Bosun Higgs: He sold my brother! I thought we were gonna save him today.
  • Player: I'm sorry, Evie, but at least we know where he ended up. We'll sail to Goshima just as soon as we can.
  • Bosun Higgs: Thank you, captain.

Talking to Lookout Ekahi on the ship[]

  • Player: I'm sorry we couldn't bring Jed to justice. I broke my promise.
  • Lookout Ekahi: This was not your fault, nor was it Jemi's. This was the will of the sea.
  • Lookout Ekahi: You have much to learn of cyclops culture. Perhaps we shall travel together one day to my home of Cyclosis.

Talking to Navigator Jemi on the ship[]

  • Player: Jemi, what happened with the Thalassus?
  • Navigator Jemi: When Kaula said the price had been set, I thought she was referring to those tortoise-shell bowls we got for her.
  • Navigator Jemi: But right before Jed dove off the ship I heard the Thalassus - it said 'the price has been paid'.
  • Player: I guess the takeaway is never trust a sea witch?
  • Navigator Jemi: No, it's not Kaula's fault, it's mine. I should have cared to find out the rules before asking for her help.
  • Navigator Jemi: I am not quite the seasinger I thought I was.

Talking to Mister Gully on the ship[]

  • Player: Hey, Gully, have you heard of The Harbinger?
  • Mister Gully: Aye, there's few in these parts that haven't. I always thought it was a myth - a ghost story to scare the young'uns.
  • Mister Gully: We'd best not hang about - get that hold open and let's get out of here, take 'em back to Port Sarim.

Attempting to unlock the hold on Jed's ship[]

  • Opening the hold will complete this voyage and return you to Port Sarim. Are you ready to leave?
  • Return the prisoners to Port Sarim.[sic]
    • Yes.
      • Player: Okay, let's get you out of that prison...and, er, back to your old one.
      • The player is returned to Port Sarim.
      • Miniquest complete.
    • No.
      • (Dialogue terminates.)

Talking to Trader Stan[]

  • Trader Stan: Can I help you?
    • Yes, who are you?
      • (No miniquest-related dialogue.)
    • Talk about the Skulls pirate, Jed.
      • Player: Jed's dead, Stan. Jed's dead.
    • Yes, I would like to charter a ship.
      • (No miniquest-related dialogue.)
