Treasure Trails (a.k.a. TT) are one of the Distractions and Diversions available to members in which a player follows a series of clues to get a reward. A treasure trail is started by finding a clue scroll. Clue scrolls are dropped by various monsters and give the player their first clue to follow. For a list of clue-dropping monsters, please see the list of clue scroll dropping monsters. There are four levels of clue scroll difficulty. The higher the difficulty level of a clue scroll is, the harder to get and complete the treasure trail will be, but the rewards will be better. Players will only be able to receive a new clue scroll if they do not already have one in their inventory or bank (or in their Kingdom Management resources). Clues can involve following maps, solving puzzles, finding coordinates, talking to various NPCs and fighting monsters. After the player has completed the last clue, they will receive a reward. For example, if a level one clue scroll is finished, one might get black (t) armour and some nature runes. Upon completion of a treasure trail, the player will always get at least one treasure trail-specific item.
The value of rewards can range from about 100 coins to over 100,000,000 coins but more commonly is between 10,000 and 3,000,000 coins. Level 1 clue scroll rewards range from as few as 100 coins to 2 million coins. Level 2 clue scroll rewards range between 2000 coins to 18 million coins. Level 3 clue scrolls average around 60,000 coins, but can be as low as 1,000, or of a magnitude way off the chart of over 300,000,000 coins (this is possible if one gets multiple 3rd age armor pieces from a single clue.) Level 4 clue scrolls have better yet average rewards. Unfortunately, until the market settles from the aftermath of the update just how much better can not be said with certainty, however 'better' can be expected to probably range around 80,000-140,000gp value per clue on average, max rewards for those lucky enough will probably remain in the hundred-million range. Some players chose to do treasure trails to make money, due to the chance of getting an extremely valuable item. Most unique rewards (with some notable exceptions) can be placed in the treasure chest in the costume room of a player's house.
- Level 1 trails can be between 1 and 5 clues long with few or no quest requirements.
- Level 2 trails can also be between 1 and 5 clues long with some quest requirements.
- Level 3 trails can be between 3 and 8 clues long, with multiple enemies to defeat and can have high-levelled quest requirements.
- Level 4 trails can be between 5 and 10 clues long, with multiple fights, and puzzles every step.
Note: Trails that have more clues and require a longer period of time to complete do not necessarily guarantee the chances of a more valuable prize.

Trivia
- The rewards are calculated in the final stage of the treasure trail. This means that the rewards of the clue scroll are not set in stone when the scroll is first picked up. As a consequence, if a rollback occurs and reverts the game to a time before the clue was finished the player will most likely receive a different reward than originally received.
- The drop trick can be used to gain additional challenge scrolls - these however serve no purpose.
- If you are in your POH or any other place that is not on the Runescape Surface, the arrow on the compass will spin Counter-Clockwise.
