Turoth are Slayer monsters that require a Slayer level of 55 to kill. They drop herbs and herb seeds fairly commonly, though not as frequently as Aberrant spectres.
Turoth, like Kurask, must be killed with either a Leaf-bladed spear, a Slayer's staff/Magic Dart spell (which also requires a Magic level of 50), or Broad arrows/Broad-tipped bolts, or else your attacks will be ineffective. Also, as none of the weapons required to kill this monster may be poisoned, Turoth cannot be poisoned.
A Leaf-bladed sword is an alternative for players who have the money to purchase it. The sword is faster than its spear counterpart, and is only one-handed, leaving room for the player to equip a shield or defender. If using the sword, it is recommended that players use the Stab style, as the weapon gives a higher stab bonus than slash or crush.
Turoth seem to be weak to range. There is a safespot on the northern wall in the Fremennik Slayer Dungeon making it very easy to hit them with Broad-tipped bolts. Because of this trips can be made very long. There is another safespot at the southern end of the cave in the Fremennik Slayer Dungeon. A player must lure it to the passage leading into the Kurasks, and walk halfway and attack with Magic Dart, Broad arrows, or Broad-tipped bolts.
It should be noted that cannons DO NOT WORK, as seen when tested in Desert Slayer Dungeon in the Turoth area. All a cannon will do is annoy the Turoth with constant 0s and will have them surround you. Familiars however will be able to damage the Turoth.
The lower-levelled Turoth can hit for damage in the 90s, while the higher-levelled ones can hit over 100. They are fairly inaccurate, but if they hit, they usually hit high.
Since out of all the methods of slaying Turoth, only the arrows have a special attack (if used with a magic shortbow, magic longbow or a dark bow), a useful tactic is to use Excalibur's or Enhanced excalibur's special attack to boost defence (and heal life points if using enhanced Excalibur).
What to Take
- Leaf-bladed spear or Leaf-bladed sword (the Leaf-bladed sword is faster with the same strength bonus and can be combined with a defender making it worth the extra money)
- Good melee Armour
- Nature runes and staff of fire or equivalent to high alchemise armour drops
- Method of Healing, such as:
Safe Spots
As of 2010, there are no longer any safe spots in the Fremmenik Slayer Dungeon (though the slayer master will recommend that you safe spot the Turoth). If you intend on ranging them, you
should make sure you're in a populated world. You can effectively use the method of standing behind another playing (who is using melee against them) and target a Turoth on the other side of the person. However, there are spots in the Pollivneach smoky dungeon, provided you have completed Smoking Kills and killed the Turoth guardian.
There is a safe a spot in the Fremennik Slayer Dungeon if you attack the level 87's and 89 next to the torch on the west wall. There is another in the southern part of the room, in the corridor leading towards the Kurask, as shown on the image, which however works only with the bigger ones.

Trivia
- Players kill a Turoth during the Slayer cape emote.
- Uri from the Treasure Trails says; "In the end only the three legged will survive." Turoth are one of the only three legged species in RuneScape, so he may be referring to them (or, as in the famous Sphinx's riddle in real-life mythology, it could refer to old humans, often having a walking stick, this being the "third leg").
- Turoth have some similarities with Frogs as they make a croak-like noise and leap high in the air before they die.
