Turoths are Slayer monsters that require a Slayer level of 55 to kill. They drop herbs and herb seeds commonly, though not as frequently as Aberrant spectres. They have an interesting death animation, where they jump up into the air and land on their head, the back leg sticking up.
Turoths, like Kurasks, must be killed with either a Leaf-bladed spear, a Leaf-bladed sword, the Magic Dart spell (which requires a Magic level of 50 plus either a Slayer's staff or a Staff of light), or Broad arrows/Broad-tipped bolts, or else the player's attacks will be ineffective. Also, as none of the weapons required to kill this monster may be poisoned, the Turoth's cannot be poisoned.
Turoths vary on level depending on their size. Level 83 Turoths have a very pale color, while the level 85's have a slightly darker color. Level 87s are larger, looking almost similar to their level 85, whilst the level 89's skin has something that resembles the colour orange.
A Leaf-bladed sword is the best melee weapon against Turoth. The sword is faster than its spear counterpart, and is only one-handed, leaving room for the player to equip a shield or defender. If using the sword, it is recommended that players use the stab style, as the weapon gives a higher stab bonus than slash or crush.
Turoths seem to be weak to range. There is a safespot on the northern wall in the Fremennik Slayer Dungeon making it very easy to hit them with Broad-tipped bolts. Because of this trips can be made very long. There is another safespot at the southern end of the cave in the Fremennik Slayer Dungeon. A player must lure it to the passage leading into the Kurasks, and walk halfway and attack with Magic Dart, Broad arrows, or Broad-tipped bolts.
It should be noted that cannons do NOT work when attacking Turoths. Familiars however will be able to damage Turoths.
The lower-levelled Turoths can hit for damage in the 90s, while the higher-levelled ones can hit over 100. They are fairly inaccurate, but if they hit, they usually hit high.
Out of all the methods of slaying turoth, only the arrows and a Staff of light have a special attack (if used with a magic shortbow, magic longbow or a dark bow), a useful tactic is to use Excalibur's or Enhanced excalibur's special attack to boost defence (and heal life points if using enhanced Excalibur).
A Saradomin Godsword can be used to heal your lifepoints and your prayer points. However, no damage will be done to the monster. It is recommended to use the special on the nearby Jellies, to maximize its healing use.
What to Take
- Leaf-bladed spear or Leaf-bladed sword (the Leaf-bladed sword is faster with the same strength bonus and can be combined with a defender making it worth the extra money)
- Good melee Armour
- Nature runes and staff of fire or equivalent to high alchemise armour drops
- Method of Healing, such as:
- Enhanced Excalibur
- Bones to Peaches
- Rapid Heal Prayer
- Bunyip pouch
- Unicorn Stallion pouch
- Regen Bracelet
- Saradomin godsword: Although the godsword cannot damage a turoth, its special effect will still heal the player based on how much damage the sword would have done to the turoth.
Safe Spots
If you intend on ranging them, you
should make sure you're in a populated world. You can effectively use the method of standing behind another player and target at turoth on the other side of the person. However, there are spots in the Pollnivneach smoky dungeon, provided you have completed Smoking Kills and killed the Turoth guardian.
There is a safe a spot in the Fremennik Slayer Dungeon if you attack the level 87s and 89 next to the torch on the west wall. There is another in the southern part of the room, in the corridor leading towards the Kurask, as shown on the image, which however works only with the bigger ones.
Fremennik Slayer Dungeon
This dungeon is very long, and you would need 81 Agility to reach the Turoth's place in short time. If not, this place is not recommended as you will need to run past a lot of caverns with a lot of twisted paths inside. You need 81 Agility to get to the Pyrefiends to reduce the time, and 61 Agility to enter from the Basilisk Cavern. In this cavern, there is 1 level 89 Turoth, 3 level 87 Turoths, and a lot of low level 85 and 83 ones. This place is crowded at times, but no one targets the level 89 and 87s as a common target. Unfortunately, this place has become a favorite place for bots, so this location is not suggested.

Trivia
- Turoths bear a striking resemblance to Reapers from Red Faction 1. Seeing as Reapers were made in 2001, Turoths may have been inspired by Reapers.
