Wild Weekends are events that will be run throughout the month of May 2012 as a part of Mad May. They were announced with a news update on 20 April 2012. Details of each weekend will be released closer to each one.

Weekend 1 (5-7 May 2012)

1st Wild Weekend Banner

Logo used for the first wild weekend.

The first Wild Weekend involved a selection of horns (curled horns) and tattoos (mystic and marauder) being added to the Uncommon and Common slots on the Squeal of Fortune, vastly increasing the chances of winning those items.

Weekend 2 (12-14 May 2012)

This weekend offered double points in Runespan (NOT experience). Each rune actually kept its original value, however each successful siphon granted the player 2 runes instead of 1, effectively doubling the points gained. This event was available to both Members and Non-Members.

Weekend 3 (19-21 May 2012)

Monkey

Double drops from bosses and a selection of monkey themed items from the Squeal of Fortune were released, which included:

To maximize the player's chance of obtaining every single one of these items, Jagex coded Squeal of Fortune such that any item from the above list (except for the Barrel of monkeys) would disappear from the wheel if a player already owned one. For example, if a player already owned the See-no-evil and Speak-no-evil monkey hats as well as the monkey mace, the only other monkey-themed item that would appear on the wheel was the Hear-no-evil monkey hat. There were double drops from:

Effigy drops were NOT doubled. Because of said weekend certain items will not sell.

Weekend 4 (26-27 May 2012)

The fourth and final Wild Weekend offers a chance to hunt down 10 monkey escapees from Ardougne Zoo. Finding all 10 monkeys rewards an exclusive monkey cape from Diango in Draynor Village. It is uncertain at this time when the monkies will be released.

Also, the community team will be spawning invasions of zombie monkeys (level 65) throughout the weekend. If you kill at least 5 on a given day an XP lamp will be rewarded. The XP lamp is a Medium XP lamp. It is repeatable from Saturday to Monday inclusive, so 3 XP lamps can be received in total.

The community team will be posting updates stating what world and location the zombie monkeys will be spawning at on the Forums, as well as Twitter. Be sure to keep an eye on one of these to make sure you are prepared. It should be noted that you can NOT kill Monkey Zombies at Ape Atoll Dungeon for the 5 kills.

Combating the Monkeys

The zombie monkeys are level 65 and fight using a hand melee attack. They WILL do damage, so lower levelled players should bring food. The locations at which they spawn are sure to be crowded, so it is a good idea to use long range fighting styles (Magic, Ranged). Upon death the monkeys will drop bones and a banana.

Message received after killing your 5th zombie monkey.

After killing 5 monkeys in one day you will be rewarded with a medium xp lamp. The xp lamp can be used on any skill. You can only earn 1 lamp per day, so after you have killed 5 zombie monkeys it is advisable to leave the area out of courtesy towards the other players.

Problems you May Face

Due to the extremely high amount of players and NPCs in a small area, it is advised to lower your graphics setting to the lowest possible option in order to reduce inevitable lag.

Many players use Dwarf Multicannons in order to maximize the amount of kills earned. This can be very irritating due to the fact that the amount of zombie monkeys that spawn is exponentially smaller than the amount of players in the area. It is best to use a long range attack and stick to areas that have the least multicannons.

Trivia

  • If a player places a barrel of monkeys, a reward from the Squeal of Fortune, the monkeys will attack the zombie monkeys.
  • The location at which zombie monkeys will spawn can not be determined using any formula. The only way to tell when and where there will be a zombie monkey spawn is by following it on the Forums or Twitter.
